    Waiting for subtitles too.
    I believe someone is going to look into making subtitles accessible in English soon.

    Beautiful song, I have heard it before. Is it their national anthem?

    • @Whateverworksism
      @Whateverworksism 4 года назад +7

      It's not our national anthem, that would be "Der er et yndigt land" ("There is a lovely country").
      This is called "I Danmark er jeg født" ("In Denmark, I am born")
      I agree, it's a beautiful song :-)

      It should be. It´s written by Hans Christian Andersen.
      Actually we have two: Kongesangen, "Kong Christian", and "Der er et yndigt Land".

      Thank you, I just viewed the link you suggested, and I got the translations. Now I understand why Crown Princess Mary talks in her speech to her husband in his 50th birthday celebration why this song means so much to her.

      Fun fact. H.C. Andersen was becoming famous and traveled during the German border war and the Danes started questioning his loyalties and if he still felt attached to his country. So he wrote these lyrics.

      In Denmark's case, having the royals makes tremendous sense. It gives a small country with a small population a sense of unity. The Danish Kingdom is actually 3 countries, Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Despite the numerous islands that make up Denmark and the great distance from Greenland and the Faroe Islands, The Queen and the other royals is the one unifying point that keeps it together. On top of all that, having a royal family gives the country continuity in a parliamentary system when sometimes coalitions break apart in months and not years. Much of the tourism in Copenhagen is the result of the royals and the ceremony around them (as in England). Also, having royals to send out to trade missions is a way for Denmark to get attention and in some countries ruled by absolute dictators and kings, likely a big factor in getting Danish business trade and contracts. Could Denmark exist as a Republic and do away with their Royals like Germany a hundred years ago. Sure they could but they would be giving up a lot of advantages including their history. (BTW, the Danish royals are treated as real celebrities whenever visiting Germany as they are in most European countries...again, bringing a positive reflection to an otherwise small country.) Lots of good reasons for the Danes to keep their constitutional monarchy...works well for them and has helped lead to a society where its citizens are happy and well taken care of.

      It is easy - You dont have to be royal, only loyal. They have our back and we have their back. As long as that is the case. even the communists will support the queen/king.
