    Its been a year...but you guys should know that SGM have returned after 16 years! Crowdfunded a new album and a tour!

      We got an unexpected gift that I personally never imagined. Saw them in Houston on the return tour, and I was the happiest I'd been in about 13 years ... since the last time I'd seen them live 😆

    The entire “Of natural History” album is pure genius. Please also check out a song from their last album called “Angel of Repose”.

      yes, and true love; very cool how both were intrigued and fascinated by the music; a totally natural reaction video and not forced at all.

      Some of the best live shows that I have ever seen. They deserve so much love and looks like they reunited recently.

    I got to see them in 2006 I think. The venue was tiny and hardly any one showed. They still played like the were playing a packed house. The fun part was the 10-40 people who showed up were die hard fans. Best show of my life to this day.

    Great reaction, I saw these guys like 15 times live and recorded their entire final show. No band will ever match SGM

    SGM is one of my favorite prog metal acts ever. I saw them 4 or 5 times; I would refer to them as "The Show At The End Of The World." I got to chat them up off-stage & they were just the nicest folks. Lead singer Nils Frykdahl now voices the title character on Adult Swim's "Tigtone."

    I've met them a few times and their newer band is Free Salamander Exhibit, but am hoping for a Sleepytime reunion once covid is..over. They're incredibly normal nice amazing people and worth absorbing all of their albums because like you said, there is nothing else like it

    I came to see ur faces and u guys didn't disappoint. The dude literally became man-e-faces. Everything will change in ur music writing after this. I listen to Dissonant death/black metal and I tot nothing would top that. Then I heard this I realise u got a lot to learn

    There are so many cool tracks by this unique band like Gunday's Child or 1997 or Sleep is wrong... Many more

  • @Baribrotzer
    @Baribrotzer Год назад

    They have a considerable - and audible, and acknowledged - influence from Art Bears, Henry Cow, and Fred Frith's solo work (All connected - Fred was in AB and HC). Also from Swans, Einsturzende Neubauten, and various metal bands. Also from The Residents. Also from various 20th Century classical composers, who Nils (guitar/vocals) studied in school.
    Their music doesn't really come out of nowhere. But that particular result from that combination of influences seems to be unique to them. Even the best avant-progressive bands don't have their level of gut-punch energy; even the best progressive metal bands don't have their clangorous experimentalism, and and few or none of either seem to have their emotional ferocity.

    They’re on tour very soon. Go See Them!!

  • @xayax7920
    @xayax7920 Год назад

    I’m pretty sure one of their main themes/influences is baroque music, which is basically post-renaissance stuff

    • @Baribrotzer
      @Baribrotzer Год назад

      It is, to the extent that all classical music - and really, all Western music, period - is influenced by Bach.
      But as for direct influence, not really. However, both Nils (guitar/vocals) and Carla (violin/vocals) studied music formally, so they would have played baroque music and studied baroque counterpoint in school. Their own material, though is far more influenced by various 20th Century composers and various boundary-pushing rock bands than something that far back.

    First, this is the studio recording synched up to live video. Second, there is nothing grosser in a reaction video than to interrupt the music for reactions; wait until the end, for crying out loud. Third, even moreso with complex music that requires the brain to hold it all together.
