Shug Slogging Up North Minnesota

- Опубликовано: 13 ноя 2015
- Winter looms. Spent the week repairing my deck. As I kneeled screwing deck screws I kept staring up at the sky and wanted a quick night in the Northwoods. It is deer hunting season so the Superior Hiking Trail is mostly closed. But there are a few places to go. Donned the orange colors and grabbed the AMOK Draumr 3.0 and some food and went up for a one nighter. It wqs cold, windy, rainy and got snow overnight.
Whooooooooo Buddy))))))

life would not be the same without regular videos from the main man shug. your an insperation to us all sir
+Tim Robson I truly appreciate the comment.
+shugemery i think i must have watched this video at least fifty times since i posted that comment and i have finally purchased the amok with an exped synmat ul 9 lw to go with it. wooooo budy. thank you for your inspiration
You love sleeping in the woods. I feel this is a true therapy for you! Totally respect!
It sure is! Spiritual for me.
Great entertainment Shug. I watch your vids sometimes late at night right before sleeping. When I'm lying in bed I picture myself snug in a hammock with a gentle rain falling on the tarp. Helps me to drift off in no time. Haven't camped out in years, but that's going to change in the Spring. Cheers for that!
+Bobby Backmarker That rain patter is something...natures sedative,
Sometimes a fella just needs to escape civilization for a single night. Just to feel like an individual again! Nice vid,Shug!
So so true. Thankee.
I haven't done any kind of camping or hiking in about 22 years. Last time I went was with a pack load of about 100 pounds. Ya know stuff like a case of 24 beer, canned food, frozen meats, etc. Now after watching your videos, I bought myself a hammock, tarp (getting a bigger one) Also putting in an order for a suspension system from Dutch. I pretty much have to buy all new stuff since my old gear went to different people or got chucked out. I just wanted to say thank you for making me want to get out to the woods again Shug!
+R Jodoin Whoooooo Buddy. 100 pounds! Your a Sherpa.
That's the best way of saying I was young and dumb.
Shug, I can't tell you how great it is to see you back in the piney woods AND to find out that shug swag is back! I just ordered me a few stickers and a Whoooo Buddy T-Shirt. Cheers, my friend!
+Rick Barnwell Thankee Rick. Hope you sweat it up soonest.
Thank you for posting again, I haven't gotten out in a while, and seeing it is the next best thing, extra motivation to get out!
The best hiking videos on the tube, Thanks Shug
+rls303 Ahhh shucks....I blush.
Sometimes you just need to get out. Even if it is only for one night. I totally know what you mean my friend.
+EconoChallenge One is better than no night. Pack light is fun.
Hey Shug, What a wonderful trip you had. I would never think you would need a scraper in your hammock gear ;). Thanks for taking us along with you again...I gotta get out for the day very soon...time for a tea in the woods.....Take care, Bluefin.
+mustang774 That ice was really on there. Enjoy some Nova Scotia woods time.
Great video, Shug! Beautiful camp site.

+jpstubblebine I am feeling it.
Beautiful scenery, great food, warm drinks. That's forest heaven man. Thanks for the video. I would love to have that weather to hunt in. In Florida here it is still in the 80's in November. What you don't sweat off the Bugs eat off. I went for a walk yesterday, never left the trail and came and found 4 ticks dig in. Gotta love it.
+dalton vickers Still ticky there huh?
Great trip Shug, thanks for taking us along. Great music also!

+Shaun Nicholson Mucho obligato. Got to your country onece. Amazing place. I was performing on cruise ships.
+shugemery Brilliant! Now you are performing on a much bigger stage...with less chance of being sea sick! haha. Nice one. Keep the videos coming buddy and thanks for all the tutorial ones too as they are really helpful. Hopefully Outdoor Research are smart enough to start sponsoring you too!
Best camping vids! Fun stuff.
Nice trip. And a thumbs up for that killer hoola hoop move too.
+Shahab Ahmad Khan. Thankee thankee.
Nice to see some of the white stuff on the ground again where you are. Had some sleet and wet snow mingling with the rain here yesterday in upland Ayrshire. Let's hope it's a cold and fresh 'un. All the best Shug.
+Douglas Newlands (Dunaskinblue) today was 55ºF out and went to fly. Ready for some dry cold freeze. Cherry cheers.
Another great video and another great trip! I've got a little pop tart trip coming up this weekend in the Catskills. Gotta love winter camping in the piney woods!

Looks like fun. I was hanging in the cold rain last weekend myself. Love it. We are looking forward to the Christmas video this year.
+Grasshopper Thankee. I got some ideas for this years skit.
+shugemery ....Shug do a melody of songs: "What Child Is This" again and "Silent Night" for sure!
Awesome Shug!

Looked like a good time. Heading out tomorrow for a night in the wood lot in Northern Vermont.
Take care,
Al
+Pumpkin Village Maple Do have a right good time.
Looked like you had a great time. Leaving shortly to Dutch's open house. It was really windy here in the Keystone state yesterday as well. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
+Mike Roberts Good feller that Dutch. I have hiked with him before.
+shugemery Never made it to the open house, my daughter needed my help with a plumbing emergency. I missed out on a Dutch burger! Oh well, maybe next time.
Looks like we are going to get some crazy warm weather next week. So, yeah I must go.
Loved this video! The scenery is pretty nice, the hammock looked great and I do believe orange is the new Shug color.
+KuntryRD Last chance for warmth. I do like orange.
Yep, orange is all good during deer season.
yet another good video from your good self. Glad you were nice and bright! ;-) That hammock is something else! I hope all is well!
+coolerking1984 Orange perks me up...sassy!
+shugemery haha! Nothing wrong with that! 😜
The Amok looks comfortable. Nothing better than some cool weather for us Northerners. Great Video! Bob
+uptrail71 It is a real good hammock to spend some time in. Glad I have one.
great little trip, love the one nighters :)
oh and thoes all wool socks are awesome, they cost a small fortune to buy :)
+Tac Blades Free for me! good daughter.
Very talented, they look complex and top quality :)
That camp chow is some really good stuff... Looking forward to you reviewing some different types of dinners in the future....
+Jim Bowling Good the hear. I like them as well as any so far.

+lonestarrider Sure was.

+lakesider007 Thankee....soundcloud.com/seanemery2/another-one-gone
What a great video, Shug!! Rewatched a couple of your solo trips recently: I always find them informative, fun but I fully realize that your editing/ cinematography is wonderful-what an artist you are.... You really capture the woods well. Thanks for all the great vids😍
Thankee. I feel myself winding down here on You Tube after 15 or so years. Been fun to film and learn.
@@shugemery Wishing you all the best! I'll continue to enjoy your art: hung Vermont Landscape (which I call 'Green Bean') and love it!
@@kat.p.b.5193 Thanks for that kat~~!!
Kiitos, Shug! Hieno reissu. We don´t have any snow yet, it´s just wet and dark. I really enjoy your solo hike videos, keep ´em coming!
+Ali Leiniö I am hoping for good snows for all of us. I was in Finland in 1988. Helsinki. Working the Viking Line ferries.
+shugemery Yeah, I can´t wait to take my snowshoes out! How cool that you´ve worked here. You were pretty far from home!
Nice little adventure Shugster
+ray dollars Thankee.
Nice little trip in the cold fall. My son and I just did a trip last weekend, almost the same here in the northeast minus the snow. Cold.
+EasternMountainHiker It is good for ya' to feel that brisk air. Whooooo Buddies.
You song high praise of Medaglia d'oro Expresso. I finally brought some for a camp trip this past weekend. I gotta say, its good stuff and hits the spot! However, it does cause for a morning constitutional pretty shortly after drinking:) Love your videos and adventures Shug!
+Dillon! Be Awake! Yes...it gets the innards moving along.
I have to add...my 6 year old loves the Shug and was talking about how you ALWAYS hammock and my wife asked him what you would do if there weren't any trees...he got the most quizzical look on his face as he tried to sort that problem out! It stumped him, yea kind of a pun I guess
+7frazier The kid knows me well....
Great tip on the being warm before going to sleep. I like to eat porridge late. It seems to actually make your body generate heat and lasts a long time. Beautiful scenery and yes there are those that don't know what it takes to go out hunting deer. It's cold in November at least where we live it is.
+A J Taylor Stoke the inner furnace. No one says porridge enough anymore.....
***** Only we Canucks and those who had Scottish mothers!!
hey shug my name is eric and im from Corsicana tx.. i really enjoy your videos on the out camping.. and would loke to say keep the videos coming and ill be ready to watch them my friend. .thanks
Sure appreciate it.
I think we all have the nighttime pee trip issues. for tent camping in the winter I would bring a 32oz Gatorade bottle so I didn't have to exit the warmth of the tent. Now that I'm a hammocker...not sure how to do that in the hammock.
Was supposed to go on a trip this weekend but it fell through.
Great stuff Shug!!!!
+7frazier I like to get up and see and feel the night.
You woke up on my birthday! 😁 I’m gonna save up for that hammock one day, looks super comfortable!!👍🏻👈🏻‼️
An orange black rock!! Must be an older one, but it would be a good color for them to offer all the time. Thanks for posting, always enjoy your rambles.
+Tom Bebee It is the older Sportsman model. I treasure it.
Sounds like we were close to each other on the road this weekend. I was just up doing day hikes around Silver Bay with a friend, checking out places that were closed to hunting. One that we did was Sugarloaf Cove, which I'd never actually stopped at before - neat place.
+Tony Yarusso Near the giant twin sitting chairs I think.
Awesome, love it
Great vid.. Also great tip with the driver's license
+Atlantic Woodsman That ice was really on there.
Wow, what a way to start the day! I mean...Saturday morning, here at my house, watching some Shug-nanigans and drinking me breakfast. It would be nicer in an Amok tho....Thanks for the video...AWESOME! Did I say awesome?
+G “Jerry” Henrickson Drinking Brekfast???>>>>haaaa
thanks for the videos Shug. My friend and I really enjoy your videos and hammock camping as well!!! Can't get out enough out here in central Ontario eh lol. Just love to disappear :)
+Brandon Croxall Here is too the disappearing act.
Cool video Shug. Been aching to get out into the piney woods. Haven't been out since early October up on
the Angleworm Trail. Anyway, I ordered a couple of the synthetic blend Shug shirts. I hope your Teespring campaigns reach their goals. Have a good Thanksgiving!
+Matt G Hey Matt. Yessir it ws a good lil' trip. I plan to put up a video to shill the shirts and hope to hit th goal though they will print anyways after the Nov. 29 end dates. Thank you so much.
Inspirational as always Shug! I'd be out in the woods myself if only I had more brownie points!
+Richard Thompson Invest in the brownies and get on out there. Bring home a gift.
Really great video Shug....thanks so much for making it....still debating with myself AMOK or a WB....the AMOK looks really comfortable and spacious..and I like the built in bug net....i was worried it might not do so good in the cold because you couldn't put an UQ on it....but it looks like it did fine. with the pad and the tube....loved the sound of the river....pretty country...great music...really nice video.......thanks again.
+RS Marett I would recommend the Warbonnet as a first hammock. But why not own both?>>>
lol...I'm retired here Shug...$$$.....eventually I probably will....AMOK very spacious and good for side sleepers....like that....but... probably going with the WBird (I like the shelf and built in bug net) and JRB UQ and TQ and Down Sleeves. Learned it all from you man and actually seen the gear in the field from all these great videos. Good job. Don't ever think you're not helping tons of pilgrims like me out here. Thanks.
Nice one snug, had to get one of those t shirts too
+Laurence Williams Many big thankees....
You look funny in that thing, like a contemplating caterpillar lol.. i mean that in a nice way ;) fUN VID !
+atommachine Haaaa....yes, I kinda do.
very cool looking hammock there shug it looks like a space age cocoon or something
+crappiejosh It is alien for sure.
Woooooo Buddyyyyyyyy! I'm the first comment. Ha! Great video as always Shug! Thanks for taking us along with you. Be safe.
+TraditionalFun Good to have ya' tagging on.
I think I figured how to the hang your under quilt on the Amok a simple girth hitch up short on 2 small carabineers at shoulder height and slip knot around the foot box with one carabineer and girth hitch at the mid point of the foot box. The zipper should still work since the carabineers are on the out side of the net. Plus I would use a different tarp like the ones you made with Velcro on the ends. Good luck hanging this winter.
The tab at the foot box would perfect place to clip your under quilt to.
Love your talks from the hammock Shug. You should write a book something like Colin Fletchers 'The Complete Walker' but from the hammock perspective.
+Mea Woodsman Haaa...these kinda are my book....I'm to lazy to sit and write. Thankee.
Shug, you need to venture south to Florida this winter and spend some time in Big Cypress - the night skies in Jan/Feb are incredible
+Zane Vest Sounds nice.
Ha ha ha...good impression of my fellow countrymen mate or me even. Mark here from England. Nice zone and good sense of humor. I liked the tarp set up...is that lightweight. I suspect it is. Maaan that some kind of bag and hammock. What a beaut. Enjoyed the video. All the best Mark.
+WyeExplorer Thanks...tarp is designed for that hammock. Silnylon 713g / 25oz Thankee.
***** OK nice one. Have a good weekend.
Your "hillbilly talk" kind of surprised me (in a good way)))). Funny
I almost did a pop tart trip last week, but instead did a trail run close by. Twas gooood!
I don't know how you get out of the Amok in the morning. Looks like your ready to hibernate all winter long...
Good one brother Shug
+CampfireTalk Never want to get out of any hammock in the morning!
sittin on your throne by a cold cokacola stream, livin the dream :)
+Jade S I love that image!
Why, oh why, don't you have a regular weekly TV show yet??? Like a travel-type bit where you're in a different remote American woods with a buddy, hiking and palaver, enjoyin' brikfist from the hem'k, juggling & tom foolery....just the usual Shuggety Shuggety Shug Shug in the third person stuff we've been enjoying on RUclips. Dude, get on tv!!!!!
+Jeremie Mullinix This is my TV Show! Maybe not weekly but I am my own producer, director, actor and stunt man. Thankee.
+shugemery Master of your domain, so to speak. Good on ya, Shug!
good stuff, thanks
+Michael Plesch Thankee.
great video, I'm going on my first hammock on Friday looking forward to it, thinks for the tips atb Daz
+Darren Coombs Interviews Carry forth and be patient.
Haven't seen you for a while...Nice vid, Shug.
+James Walker Thankee.....I've been here!
Love the hammock. Is that the best designed hammock on the planet? Terrible weather, but you are a sensible guy and have prepared well, and have made the best of it for an enjoyable weekend break.
+gcljohn Just a different hammock. I went for that weather!
Look out for the Orange Army, at least you are not down in Wisconsin......the whole state turns out for the event it's quite a blaze orange sight to see, haha. They even have a navy.....seen it with my own eyes a couple years ago when I was duck hunting down at Lansing on the river, haha.
+StormLaker1975 Ahhh...the Orange Tribe.
Thanks again for taking us along, Shug! Guess The Maple King is in hibernation?
+rodmanprice His leaves all fell and he is naked and hiding in his little hole.
+shugemery ....yeah...where is the ole Maple King.....hiding in his little hole...made me laugh lol lol
Never seen a hammock like that! :)
It is really different.
A quick overnighter in your local woods always does a body good. I am surprised you can sleep 11hrs outside, don't get me wrong I love sleeping outside but after a while I am just done with it and ready to go play. I love the Shug store I want to grab a shirt and a sticker too, you seem to be a little short in hat department though. I would pay good money for a Shug beanie hat.
+Rob Marley Wish they had hats!
Excellent..
+Frederick Ernst Thankee.
Good stuff Shug, really like that rig you have there. Winter is coming and wondering if your going to do some polar bear camping you crazy man LOL Wooooo Buddy. Keep them coming and ill keep watching
+Cannabis healz Oh....for sure. Winter is long here.
I like the socks my feet are always getting cold in winter and my hands thats the only problem darn that cold!!
+Mist one Sure...the extremities are the first to go cold on ya'.
I saw it was snowing up there in MN and I thought to myself, Shug is gone to the woods!
+grizphoto You get me!
I went to in-laws place in NJ over last weekend...did a couple carl impressions on the fly..got blank stares...12 people, not a one had seen the movie....how is that possible I asked myself?! Nice vid Shug!
+Bhamlunker I meet many who have never seen or heard of it. A cult classic.
Shug
Shug Shug shugedy shug Shug! Just got my shirt today in the mail. Whooo buddy)))) cool idea to get out for a quick overnighter!
+kc329191 So good to hear! Thankee.
Strange but true....sleeping indoors I very rarely wake up to go to pee, but if I'm outdoors in the hammock I gotta go at least once through the night. I'm not sure why that is, but I theorize it has something to do with how much more restful it is to sleep in the hammock. It's as if the body is taking advantage of the opportunity to repair and do a little extra housekeeping, which is probably malarky, but I still like the idea.
+Aaron Maughan I just like to think I drink more water and I am excited!
Orange is yur favorite color anyway !! I like your gathered end hammock videos the best, I know you got to try them all though !!! :))) I'm just saying ...
+Ace Wells Need a change from time to time I say...love them all but do prefer a gathered end.
beef stroganoff camp chow is my favorite
Love it too. Good mushrooms.
Shug- Great video as always! Have you ever considered doing a video review on all of your different prepared trail meals you take? Are the single serving Camp Chow entrees filling enough? Where are you buying Enertia Trail foods? Thanks again!
+Tom Willard No rel video reviews other than what I show out in the woods. Yes those meals filled me and I think I looked pretty satisfied!? Good stuff. I bought the Enertai meals before they closed shop...they are coming back though www.trailfoods.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html
Thanks, --- Clark
+Virginia Bradley Y'elcome
***** nice to relax and enjoy yourself!!!--- Clark
Thanks for another fun video. Another reviewer mentioned that anyone over 5'10" might find the Amok hammock too short. Wondering if you noticed it being short?
+Mark Young (Shunpyke) Not for me. I am 6' and that is about the limit heightwise.
I was up their the weekend before this, and as I was enjoying my dawn time on the fiberglass throne, I realized two things. 1- I was still dressed in my gray and tan sleeping wear. 2- For several moments it was going to look like I had a white tail.
Just giving you something to think about... :)
+Mark Williams I like the thought!
