I clicked on this video just for entertainment, not really caring about deskmats, but you definitely got me interested! You're great at explaining things in an easy to follow way, while also being very fun to watch.
Since my hands get cold during winters in my old house, I got a heated desk mat that works great. Looks like leather with smooth edges like that finished on a leather belt.
I bought a ZOWIE GTF-X Mouse Pad back in 2021 and it's become my favorite type of pad by far. It's like a hybrid cloth and plastic pad that has a firm and smooth (but still slightly textured) top and a rubber bottom. With modern mouse skates it's got the perfect blend of low friction and accurate stopping force to make playing games fun for me. I like mouse pads that are a little on the "fast" side but I also HATE the feeling of cloth pads on my hands and arms. Recently I set up a second desk for my Mac and I need something similar but smaller for a mousepad since the desk is only 14in deep. I ended up getting a X-Raypad Aqua Control 2. It's got a similar feel to the Zowie, but has a more scratchy feeling tactile surface that's slowly getting smoother as I use it. But all that is to say I think your point about the look of the pad is actually the most important thing. Few if any companies seem to make quality designs that are also available in a wide variety of sizes. The mousepad company stuff looks like it fits the biill. But I wish EVERYONE would just do the same thing. I wanted something that fit the vibe of my mac setup, and I literally couldn't find anything in the surface type I liked aside from the X Raypad that also fit the desk. For as much as people hype up modern mouse pads, it's kind of crazy how far down the list customization and visual design still is for these companies.
@@Naaackers Yeah the X-Raypad smoothed out in a few days, but it's still a pretty textured textile. It's just not as bad as some of the ones I've tried over the years with the Zowie being my favorite.
I have bought about 3 Glorious XXXL pads mostly because of the size. That being said, the reason I have bought more than one is because the stitched edge gets worn out. Great vid man..I laugh a lot when I watch your stuff
I just looked at my purchase history and I've bought 5 of them in the past several years ahhahaha. Even though they hurt me! They were trusty. And thanks for the love dude!
ah yes that sweet sensitive fore(arm)skin. If I remember correctly you have furry babies, does their fur ever cause an issue for you? The type of deskmats I have are so fucking hard to get cat hair off of even with lint rollers. And my cats own me so there's no use trying to keep them off the desk lol. I'm thinking a slicker one like the linoleum/leather would be perfect, curious if you have experience with that. Thanks again sharing your wealth of tech and tech-adjacent experience with us!
I just realized that I cut a part from this video, it was me trying to pick dog hair one by one off of the cloth gaming mats... LOL. I HATE IT SO MUCH. On the ones from grovemade, a single swipe of the hand clears all crumbs and hair, it's so easy to clean!

Yeah that weird texture is how these mouse pad company ones are, super strange! I'll check out the X-Raypad Aqua Control 2.

Looks cool but I stopped buying more stitched edge mats. Just not my jam!
