I have to agree with you, but it still a very unique place. I think you don't need more than than 2 days in Havana. It's going to come to a point where no tourists will go there anymore. It's unique , a lot of great and honest people but because of the bad ones, it's becoming too annoying. When I travel, I like peace. I rather be in Viñales. Even in the beach in Havana the guy that rents out the beach chairs and umbrellas told me if I wanted to rented them, I need to buy food from the restaurant. A day prior to that, he didn't do that. So, what I learned is, if you go to the beach get there early but if you get there afte 1:00pm, he most likely will do that to you. I left, walked around and found two polices and I told them, when the guy saw me walking down with the police he completely changed the story. He couldn't do that and the "restaurant " he was talking about was like a kioski if I can call that, because looked destroyed and fifty. Honestly that becach wasn't any good, and very durty. Get a shared taxi or the bus and go to Varadero. Way much better. I would never go to the beach in Havana again and forget it, there is no bathroom what so ever. As much as I love Cuba but we have to be honest.
Havana is beautiful but some of the people we encounter left a bad taste in our mouths. A man tried to steal my boyfriend's hat and tried to slap my butt. People constantly pestering for us to buy stuff. Then people would be nice to you and turn around and expect money or a tip. It was annoying but a beautiful place. Architecture to die for !
I apologize, and I am embarrassed.😳 I am a Cuban American. I never visited Cuba, but plan on traveling there next spring 2023, with my mom, who was born there and left the island at the age of 29, because of the commies. I will watch out for the issues you mentioned.

I'm taking my boyfriend for the very first time to Cuba, to visit my family and just to show him where I am from.. I'm positive he will fall in love with Cuba. :) Obviously, it'll be different for us, just because I'm Cuban and I know my country and the Cuban citizens are also different to other Cubans than they are with tourists, but I feel like that expected anywhere.. especially since Cuba is such a poor country. I have not visited Cuba yet because of the car rental situation. Its unfortunate how you must depend on a cab for every aspect of traveling throughout the island. I also heard the food from the restaurants are terrible and by wat I saw in your blog I think thats accurate. One tip is to buy meals from air bnb rentors. I've heard that's the best way to go.

Great video. Very helpful to see the whole picture, the good and bad sides. I've been intrigued to see what Havana is like for a while. I've heard it is a city that is stuck in the past but wasn't aware of the scams that go on. I'm going to Rio de Janeiro, another poor city and expect it might be similar.
@@JumpingPlaces Friend, I think Rio de Janeiro is a much more dangerous city. For example, in the beach area it is very common to see boys robbing bathers. This in Cuba can happen to you, but I think that in general Cuba is a much safer country than Brazil or than most Latin American countries. In Cuba there are many ways to scam and get the money from the tourist, but they are generally not violent forms.

We were there in 2014 and didn't really have any hassle... I think the embargo has been intensified like you say which has changed things for the worse...it always amazes me how pathetic the US are holding a 50 year old grudge against a country that now poses no threat whatsoever...and the stupid orange baby is only going to make the world dislike America even more..but hey ho that's their problem
Love your channel! I'm from Cuba, and the old/destroyed buildings have become normal for my generation. I was worn on the 90's. Pretty much, there hasn't been any maintenance to buildings in Habana for decades, and because they're mostly colonial buildings, they have been falling down. Sadly, some citizens live inside those buildings.
Many countries, in which these buildings, and streets were influenced from, sent money to rebuild, refurbish, and remodel the streets, and buildings, but the commies kept the money. 🤑😫

I'm shocked. I travel a lot all over the world and Cuba was shockingly the safest country I have ever been in. Violent crime is unheard of. At most you get people trying to price gauge you or sell you fake cigars.
Another thing is at the airport to not agree to have people carry out your luggage off the baggage terminals, they are not employed by the airports/government and they expect a certain fee.
I saw so many places on this channel from my tiny house shed....lol...all thanks to.you guys ....from my point off view ...from the Netherlands...i know were to go this winter...Portugal...will be awesome ...to ride my e bike from North to South...is it the preperation ore...is it that... i just have to go?
my experience in Havana was very much the same! we found it difficult to even buy water etc.! being asked if we wanted drugs all the time also got very annoying! but I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your time there!

Jumping Places hey guys! There was water available but we would try and buy some and they would say ‘no agua’... and then a local person would walk over and they would sell water to the locals? And we were left standing there thinking what the hell? It was very strange!
I was in Havana in June. We had our own transportation provided. There's lot of new construction of hotels by the government for tourists but a housing shortage for Cubans.

The less positive part is that you can’t really explore the beaches like you always do Reason being that you can’t be without a headscarf. It’s really a shame! But other then that it’s amazingly packed with history and culture and extremely beautiful sights. It’s also very very cheap now since the latest sanctions has done a great damage on the currency.

I will NEVER go to Cuba again. I lost all my guitars, clothes, $1700 tv and when I cut off our joint bank account in Canada was the icing on the cake. Do not get involved with a Cuban girl
Hey there, we were there 10 days and visited havana, trinidad, cienfuegos and varadero. Could have done that in a week also since we spent 3 days in both havana and varadero...so if you spend less time in those you could do the same. Or of course visit some other places your interested in instead :D
Been to Cuba a few times and agree Havana is a bit crap, big dirty and too many people on the make.. Trinidad and Cienfuego are small towns and much more laid-back and try Playa Larga (one horse 'town) on your way back to Havana, for a relaxing couple of days.
Chris and Carol welcome to my side of the world. Sorry to hear about your experience. There is a beach called vallerdero try and go there it's about 2 hrs drive from Havana and cost $50 cuc. There was a boat you could have taken from the end of the malecon to che Guevara house in case Blanca instead of having to pay a taxi and it would have been one peso for you and Carol even as tourist. Scams are all over Havana but don't let it ruin your time. Much love to you both from Trinidad

The image you see in the Plaza is not Castro..... it is in fact Camilo Cienfuegos who was a member of the revolutionary “army”. An aide to Fidel and very often mistaken for Fidel.
The other image wasn't Fidel. That was Camilo Cienfuegos. They are major players during the revolution along with Fidel and Raul Castro. Awesome vlog though. I missin' Havana.
We hated it with a small baby. We were ripped off a few times & hated people coming up to us & our baby all the time. The food was dire. It was 2000. Will never return to Cuba 😭

I am Cuban and I like that the people who visit my country feel good there, that's why it hurt me that you felt bad for the harassment of the Cubans in the streets, trying to rip you off or earn some money. Unfortunately, Cuba is a country that has a special status due to its historical and political peculiarities. There is a communist regime that is not liked by the United States. And we already know that we live in a world where the United States is the master and lord, and if you don't like him, he will do everything possible to destroy you. Its destructive power is so great that you hardly find in the world your enemies that remain standing. Cuba is one of those enemies that still survives. But it survives full of difficulties and shortcomings. His can survive, and he does it by doing things like those that bothered you so much. Trying to return home every day with some dollars to live them and their relatives. That is why when we think of Cuba and when we go to Cuba, by the way, a totally recommended trip, because Cuba does not leave anyone indifferent, we must take into account 5 elements that make Cuba a country different from most countries in the world. ITEM 1 Cuba is a country that suffers a financial blockade by the United States, and that is why the island does not receive large loans from large financial lenders such as the IMF, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, the Inter-American Bank for Development and others. That is why Cuba's external debt is 11 billion dollars. That of the United States, for example, is $ 22,000,000,000. That of England is 7,000,000,000,000 dollars. Canada's is $ 1.7 billion. The one in Spain is 1.4 billion dollars. Mexico's is 420,000,000,000 dollars. Argentina's is 370,000,000,000 dollars. Therefore, when we value Cuba, keep in mind that if the island could afford an external debt such as that allowed by all these countries, it would show a much higher level of development. And by the way, none of these countries mentioned, can pay these debts, therefore, in reality they are not as rich as we think, because their wealth although it is not false, it is a wealth falsified by the great unpayable external debt they hold. If any of these countries were forced to reduce their debt to 11 billion, they would be hopelessly impoverished and there would be social outbursts in them. Item 2 Cuba lives under an economic blockade that prevents such simple things as US citizens visiting the island as tourists. Under normal conditions Cuba should receive only 3 million tourists annually from the United States and should be entering for this concept, 3 billion dollars annually. The reality is that only 400,000 Americans visit the island, and in many cases they are Cubans living in the United States. Therefore, the economic loss is more than 2000 million dollars. In 10 years the loss is 20 billion dollars, and if we consider that an old building in Old Havana can be repaired with 2 million dollars, Cuba has lost only in 10 years, the opportunity to repair 10,000 buildings , or what is the same, has lost the opportunity to repair all of Old Havana and Centro Habana. But it is more than that. Cuba cannot trade freely with US companies. You cannot sell your products, such as your cigars or your rums, your nickel, your cobalt, etc. He has had trouble selling them his vaccines such as the lung cancer vaccine, which is the best in the world. But above all, we can not buy freely from their companies, and this brings many problems to the island, because when what you can not buy are medical equipment, that causes deaths in Cuba or forces the island to get it on the black market paying high prices. All this is a violation of International Law, but the United States does it to Cuba. Try to kill a whole country from hunger and disease and despair, and absolutely nothing happens. At the UN for 28 years, the world almost entirely votes against the embargo against Cuba, but the embargo is still there, because the UN decisions do not need to be followed.
Item 4 The United States forcibly controls, and against the will, the Cuban people and the Cuban government, a piece of their national territory. The Guantanamo Naval Base. This territory is not just any territory. And it is not because it is the best Cuban port. And it is, because it is the closest Cuban port to the Panama Canal. If Cuba could commercially exploit that port, it would earn 1,000 million dollars annually. Therefore, the losses caused to Cuba by the US presence in that place, is 60 billion dollars in 60 years. Item 5 The island lives threatened to be invaded. Cuba was already invaded in April 1961, and since then Fidel Castro has more than 200 plans to assassinate him. And the US government allocates between 20 and 30 million dollars every year to destroy the Cuban Revolution and bring its "democracy" model. This is illegal, but they do it with total normality and it doesn't bring them any kind of consequences. Therefore, the island has had to form a powerful army composed of more than 300,000 men. The armament of this army and maintaining it, have cost about 150 billion dollars. Therefore, the island of Cuba has lost more than 800 billion dollars because of the belligerence of the United States. When we travel the world and compare Cuba with those 30 rich countries, we tend to think that it is Capitalism that has enriched them, but in reality it is the External Debt that has been allowed to have and that is not required to pay it, which It really provides in these countries that sense of wealth that we don't see in Cuba. The flip side of the coin is that on this same planet there are 120 poor capitalist countries that are poorer than Cuba. But Cuba has been punished for 60 years, for trying to carry forward a political and social economic model different from capitalism, and that in this world is a great sin.
Cuba’s government is communist! The oppressed people of Cuba will not see a penny of any monies that would come into the country. The government would keep everything! The people live on rations when there’s food to be had. People go without medicine and basic necessities. Currently food is scarce island wide. You would think a horrid situation couldn’t get any worse but sadly it has. In a Communist country individual people do not own land, factories, or machinery. Instead, the government owns these things. There is no freedom just oppression.

You have to realize that these people are very poor and deprived. Tourists are therefore good marks and vendors of services tend to maximize their take from the tourist trade. Most travelers are from far richer nations. Having said that, it is a downer to be mistreated in that fashion, but it is equally naive to think otherwise. Buyer beware in these impoverished countries and the unwary sightseer can expect to be ripped off, if I may use a trite colloquial drug phrase. Brazil, which I'am certain you are well aware of is subject to the same ethos of it being open season on the unsuspecting holidaymaker. Bottom line, pick your vacation destinations carefully. Plan for the worse and hope for the best experience. Forewarned is forearmed. Read about before you go places!

Just one question: are the 'casas particulares' the best type of accommodation in Havana? I don't want to stay in a 5 star hotel but are there small hotels? Thanks and have a nice trip in the next adventures.

I have not visited Cuba yet because of the car rental situation. Its unfortunate how you must depend on a cab for every aspect of traveling throughout the island. I also heard the food from the restaurants are terrible and by wat I saw in your blog I think thats accurate. One tip is to buy meals from air bnb rentors. I've heard that's the best way to go.

Great video. Very helpful to see the whole picture, the good and bad sides. I've been intrigued to see what Havana is like for a while. I've heard it is a city that is stuck in the past but wasn't aware of the scams that go on. I'm going to Rio de Janeiro, another poor city and expect it might be similar.
Yeah I think in Rio there will definitely be less scams from my experience there but still need to watch out for sure
@@JumpingPlaces Friend, I think Rio de Janeiro is a much more dangerous city. For example, in the beach area it is very common to see boys robbing bathers. This in Cuba can happen to you, but I think that in general Cuba is a much safer country than Brazil or than most Latin American countries.
In Cuba there are many ways to scam and get the money from the tourist, but they are generally not violent forms.
The scams are such nothing burgers in cuba the ppl are super sweet they don’t steal they just try to squeeze you. You just have to insist.

We were there in 2014 and didn't really have any hassle... I think the embargo has been intensified like you say which has changed things for the worse...it always amazes me how pathetic the US are holding a 50 year old grudge against a country that now poses no threat whatsoever...and the stupid orange baby is only going to make the world dislike America even more..but hey ho that's their problem
Love your channel! I'm from Cuba, and the old/destroyed buildings have become normal for my generation. I was worn on the 90's. Pretty much, there hasn't been any maintenance to buildings in Habana for decades, and because they're mostly colonial buildings, they have been falling down. Sadly, some citizens live inside those buildings.
Many countries, in which these buildings, and streets were influenced from, sent money to rebuild, refurbish, and remodel the streets, and buildings, but the commies kept the money. 🤑😫
This is not the first time I've heard these types of things about Cuba. Still, I'd like to spend some time there. I loved the shots of the dancing. Thanks for the great video!

I'm shocked. I travel a lot all over the world and Cuba was shockingly the safest country I have ever been in. Violent crime is unheard of. At most you get people trying to price gauge you or sell you fake cigars.
Another thing is at the airport to not agree to have people carry out your luggage off the baggage terminals, they are not employed by the airports/government and they expect a certain fee.

my experience in Havana was very much the same! we found it difficult to even buy water etc.! being asked if we wanted drugs all the time also got very annoying! but I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your time there!

Jumping Places hey guys! There was water available but we would try and buy some and they would say ‘no agua’... and then a local person would walk over and they would sell water to the locals? And we were left standing there thinking what the hell? It was very strange!

I was in Havana in June. We had our own transportation provided. There's lot of new construction of hotels by the government for tourists but a housing shortage for Cubans.

Your videos are excellent! I married a Cuban girl. If you want to know scams. I can tell you the disaster of REAL Cuban scams. I bought a house in Matanza (in her name). I will NEVER go to Cuba again. I lost all my guitars, clothes, $1700 tv and when I cut off our joint bank account in Canada was the icing on the cake. Do not get involved with a Cuban girl

Hey there, we were there 10 days and visited havana, trinidad, cienfuegos and varadero. Could have done that in a week also since we spent 3 days in both havana and varadero...so if you spend less time in those you could do the same. Or of course visit some other places your interested in instead :D
Been to Cuba a few times and agree Havana is a bit crap, big dirty and too many people on the make.. Trinidad and Cienfuego are small towns and much more laid-back and try Playa Larga (one horse 'town) on your way back to Havana, for a relaxing couple of days.
And the place you said on the Mallecon on the river, that is actually Havana bay..
Chris and Carol welcome to my side of the world. Sorry to hear about your experience. There is a beach called vallerdero try and go there it's about 2 hrs drive from Havana and cost $50 cuc. There was a boat you could have taken from the end of the malecon to che Guevara house in case Blanca instead of having to pay a taxi and it would have been one peso for you and Carol even as tourist. Scams are all over Havana but don't let it ruin your time. Much love to you both from Trinidad

Jumpling Places, friend, first of all I want to congratulate you on this magnificent video. I am Cuban and I like that the people who visit my country feel good there, that's why it hurt me that you felt bad for the harassment of the Cubans in the streets, trying to rip you off or earn some money.
Unfortunately, Cuba is a country that has a special status due to its historical and political peculiarities. There is a communist regime that is not liked by the United States. And we already know that we live in a world where the United States is the master and lord, and if you don't like him, he will do everything possible to destroy you. Its destructive power is so great that you hardly find in the world your enemies that remain standing. Cuba is one of those enemies that still survives.
But it survives full of difficulties and shortcomings. His can survive, and he does it by doing things like those that bothered you so much. Trying to return home every day with some dollars to live them and their relatives.
That is why when we think of Cuba and when we go to Cuba, by the way, a totally recommended trip, because Cuba does not leave anyone indifferent, we must take into account 5 elements that make Cuba a country different from most countries in the world.
ITEM 1
Cuba is a country that suffers a financial blockade by the United States, and that is why the island does not receive large loans from large financial lenders such as the IMF, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, the Inter-American Bank for Development and others. That is why Cuba's external debt is 11 billion dollars. That of the United States, for example, is $ 22,000,000,000. That of England is 7,000,000,000,000 dollars. Canada's is $ 1.7 billion. The one in Spain is 1.4 billion dollars. Mexico's is 420,000,000,000 dollars. Argentina's is 370,000,000,000 dollars. Therefore, when we value Cuba, keep in mind that if the island could afford an external debt such as that allowed by all these countries, it would show a much higher level of development. And by the way, none of these countries mentioned, can pay these debts, therefore, in reality they are not as rich as we think, because their wealth although it is not false, it is a wealth falsified by the great unpayable external debt they hold. If any of these countries were forced to reduce their debt to 11 billion, they would be hopelessly impoverished and there would be social outbursts in them.
Item 2
Cuba lives under an economic blockade that prevents such simple things as US citizens visiting the island as tourists. Under normal conditions Cuba should receive only 3 million tourists annually from the United States and should be entering for this concept, 3 billion dollars annually. The reality is that only 400,000 Americans visit the island, and in many cases they are Cubans living in the United States. Therefore, the economic loss is more than 2000 million dollars. In 10 years the loss is 20 billion dollars, and if we consider that an old building in Old Havana can be repaired with 2 million dollars, Cuba has lost only in 10 years, the opportunity to repair 10,000 buildings , or what is the same, has lost the opportunity to repair all of Old Havana and Centro Habana.
But it is more than that. Cuba cannot trade freely with US companies. You cannot sell your products, such as your cigars or your rums, your nickel, your cobalt, etc. He has had trouble selling them his vaccines such as the lung cancer vaccine, which is the best in the world.
But above all, we can not buy freely from their companies, and this brings many problems to the island, because when what you can not buy are medical equipment, that causes deaths in Cuba or forces the island to get it on the black market paying high prices.
Item 3
Cuba lives under a commercial block. That is to say, there is an American law that says that if a ship from any country touches a Cuban port, it must wait 6 months to touch a North American port. That makes 100% of ships sailing the waters of the Caribbean, only 5% of those ships dare to enter Cuba. This produces almost everything on the island. And it complicates life for the Cuban state to put products in their supermarkets, and in their industry, etc.
The businessmen of the country of the world who are, who dare to do business with Cuba, are banned in the United States. For example, the Spanish hotel companies MELIÁ and IBEROSTAR are prohibited from building hotels in the United States.
Many global companies are afraid to trade with Cuba for fear of reprisals from the United States.
The United States systematically fines banks around the world for moving Cuban currencies.
All this is a violation of International Law, but the United States does it to Cuba. Try to kill a whole country from hunger and disease and despair, and absolutely nothing happens. At the UN for 28 years, the world almost entirely votes against the embargo against Cuba, but the embargo is still there, because the UN decisions do not need to be followed.
Item 4
The United States forcibly controls, and against the will, the Cuban people and the Cuban government, a piece of their national territory. The Guantanamo Naval Base. This territory is not just any territory. And it is not because it is the best Cuban port. And it is, because it is the closest Cuban port to the Panama Canal. If Cuba could commercially exploit that port, it would earn 1,000 million dollars annually. Therefore, the losses caused to Cuba by the US presence in that place, is 60 billion dollars in 60 years.
Item 5
The island lives threatened to be invaded. Cuba was already invaded in April 1961, and since then Fidel Castro has more than 200 plans to assassinate him. And the US government allocates between 20 and 30 million dollars every year to destroy the Cuban Revolution and bring its "democracy" model. This is illegal, but they do it with total normality and it doesn't bring them any kind of consequences.
Therefore, the island has had to form a powerful army composed of more than 300,000 men. The armament of this army and maintaining it, have cost about 150 billion dollars.
Therefore, the island of Cuba has lost more than 800 billion dollars because of the belligerence of the United States.
When we travel the world and compare Cuba with those 30 rich countries, we tend to think that it is Capitalism that has enriched them, but in reality it is the External Debt that has been allowed to have and that is not required to pay it, which It really provides in these countries that sense of wealth that we don't see in Cuba.
The flip side of the coin is that on this same planet there are 120 poor capitalist countries that are poorer than Cuba. But Cuba has been punished for 60 years, for trying to carry forward a political and social economic model different from capitalism, and that in this world is a great sin.
Cuba’s government is communist! The oppressed people of Cuba will not see a penny of any monies that would come into the country. The government would keep everything! The people live on rations when there’s food to be had. People go without medicine and basic necessities. Currently food is scarce island wide. You would think a horrid situation couldn’t get any worse but sadly it has.
In a Communist country individual people do not own land, factories, or machinery. Instead, the government owns these things.
There is no freedom just oppression.

Cuba faces many difficult times....right now there is no fuel available...people are advised to stay home from work....communism is no joke. I travel to Cuba every three months and stay locally in non tourist areas....the struggle is definitely real. Prayers for the people of Cuba

You have to realize that these people are very poor and deprived. Tourists are therefore good marks and vendors of services tend to maximize their take from the tourist trade. Most travelers are from far richer nations. Having said that, it is a downer to be mistreated in that fashion, but it is equally naive to think otherwise. Buyer beware in these impoverished countries and the unwary sightseer can expect to be ripped off, if I may use a trite colloquial drug phrase. Brazil, which I'am certain you are well aware of is subject to the same ethos of it being open season on the unsuspecting holidaymaker. Bottom line, pick your vacation destinations carefully. Plan for the worse and hope for the best experience. Forewarned is forearmed. Read about before you go places!
