  • This week, Mitch takes out his buddies Tom and Brady on a week-long backcountry hunt, into the remote wilderness of one of Alberta's wildland provincial parks. It's open season for whitetails, mule deer, and 6 point bull elk and there is no shortage of wildlife on this trip.

    Beautiful country! Cool hunt guys. I use a luxe octapeak with a stove. Saw you guys using a luxe. I fully agree about that cabin in that spot... Happiness.

      Hey Michael,
      how do you like your tent ever have the woodstove issues?

    • @2michaelgilbert
      @2michaelgilbert 2 года назад

      @@AlpineCarnivore hey guys. I like my setup. I agree it's a bit heavy for 2 guys to backpack in. I've used it a few times now and haven't had any issues with sparks burning holes in the tent but I haven't had it out in really harsh winds either. When it's cold, that stove is really nice.

    Great thing about Alberta, dont really matter what WMU you are in, if you can hike 6km in from road, you are GOLDEN. It's so vast on the mountain side west WMUs.

      You bet a little bit of hiking into the foothills and your gonna bump into to something that is for sure!

    Nice looking country , thanks for taking us along. Cool to see all the elk. Oh , and as a fire starter I use a muffin tin , put dryer lint and a wick in muffin cups and melt wax over that. Whatever works right.

      We do something similar. But use egg cartons and fill with dryer lint and wax. Then cut them up into 12 individual ones.

    Awesome content you guys! Keep up he good work.! Didn’t read any other comments but thought I’d mention the wood stove sparks burning holes in your tent seems to be operator error, footage shown in the episode of the wood stove burning the stove jack spark arresting screen was not installed. This should have alleviated the sparks coming out of the pipe 🔥 🔥 🔥

    • @AlpineCarnivore
      @AlpineCarnivore  2 года назад

      Hey Steve,
      Thanks for watching glad you like the show.
      As for the spark arrest or it wasn’t in for all of 10 minutes while we did the initial filming of the set up but after that for the week we most definitely had it in.
      I think the wind had a big factor to play.
      We have since changed over to seek outside and have not have any issue with the stoves or tents!

    Excellent video! May I ask: if you're a BC-based hunter, and given you didn't appear to be using a guide-outfitter service in Alberta, did you hunt there on a Permit-to-Accompany type of basis with one of your buddies being an Alberta resident hunter? I ask because I would also be interested in Alberta hunts (without a guide-outfitter) in the future. Huge thanks!

      Wdint have it while setting up but we did get it in there about 10 mins after we got the fire going.
      That’s not what caused the holes though… it was the wind

      We use a few different varieties depending on weather late season cold weather I would look for -29 down bag stone glacier or mec or mountain hardware all make great products.
      Mid season bad we use the -7 stone glacier bags they work really well. Also down
