  • There are some different opinions on whether or not you can bake for a short time and then re-bake for a longer time and still keep the strength of the final product. So judge for yourself.
    Sorry about the quality. I made it a while ago with my old camera.

    an hour seems like a long time to bake a slab style bead . I've been baking at 275 degrees for 30 mins. Will my baked clay be stronger if I bake it longer?

    • @Hobbyrian
      @Hobbyrian  4 года назад +1

      It will definitely be stronger. As long as you have the right temperature you can bake as long as you desire. Take look at this video that i made on the subject ruclips.net/video/Vp8Mi5jnd9U/видео.html&t

    Did you only test with one clay brand? I have to do that too with all the clay brands I'm using. the rumor doesn't seem to die, that the first baking has to be long as well.

    • @Hobbyrian
      @Hobbyrian  5 лет назад

      This is Premo. I didn´t do a specific test for other brands but I do underbake cernit and Fimo also. I do this with my cake toppers as the under baked clay is easier to clean after baking. Underbaked clay can be scraped with a x-acto kind of knife to remove any dust left on the surface. (Beginner reading this should practice first as underbaked clay is very fragile)
      I should do a real test. Good thought. Thank you.

    Should it be bendable still? thought it hardened after baking

    • @Hobbyrian
      @Hobbyrian  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, the clay is somewhat flexible after correct baking. How flexible depends on the thickness. Thicker clay, like beads, will of course not be flexible while thinner flat pieces will. You can watch this video about baking to see what happens if you don´t bake your clay properly. ruclips.net/video/Vp8Mi5jnd9U/видео.htmlsi=3BDRgh55EcpEP_Wh

      I use fimo soft I bake it between 110°c -130°c. I take it out while it's still hot, is that wrong?

    • @Hobbyrian
      @Hobbyrian  5 лет назад +1

      No it does not matter if you take it out hot or leave it in the oven to cool. But it is a bit more fragile while it is still hot.
      I take my stuff out hot most of the time but leave it on the baking tray until it has cooled down.
      Fimo soft is not a clay that i recommend. Try using Fimo Professional instead.
      How thick is your clay? To thin can also be a problem especially when you use a weaker clay (like Fimo Soft)

    • @magicshop581
      @magicshop581 5 лет назад

      I don't make very thin pieces but a cupcake' decoration on top may gets broken if it's too thin. next time I'll buy another clay and I'll also do more testing. Thank you

    i see lot of folks bake parts and rebake then bake the entire piece, is this the same as what ur showing here? i just started polymer clay and it's hard to work a piece, especially if there facial with ears and stuff of sorts but i never baked one part then bake again and again, but i been watching videos where they do bake time and time again. ty for ur video just wondering if i can follow the method, bake apart for 10, and if i need to keep working on a piece bake again, then the final for what 30 to 60 min??? i use Fimo and Super Sculpey and have quite i bit of Sculpey 3 that i did not like for it being rather sticky making it hard o work plus get too soft also . I'm going to put this on my save list of videos.

    • @Hobbyrian

      You can bake polymer clay as many times as you wish as long as the temperature is correct.
      However, baking for 10 minutes leaves the clay VERY fragile so I don´t recommend that. It is far better to bake full time, every time. It would be very easy to break details of your work if you bake it for only 10 minutes and then keep working on it.
      I bake many times during my work because as you say, I don't want to mush up what I already have done.
      So if you ask me. Yes, bake multiple times but not for 10 minutes. Depending on thickness, bake 30-60 minutes so you don't accidentally break anything that you already made when you continue to work on the piece.
      This video just shows that if you by accident underbaked a piece, you can save it by baking it again.
