    I’ve been through this kinda stuff so many times and had to use makeshift substandard tools. It hurts me to have to watch sometimes, but I know it’s part of the charm. First thing I did was get a big old compressor and a bunch of air tools. And get a torch for the stubborn nuts. Heat works like a charm. Also don’t use a pipe wrench on the studs, put two nuts on the end and use a wrench on the back one. Also kinda impressed she has a sand blasting setup. I always brought stuff to a specialist. Kudos. And get a sprayer spray booth setup. Using the spray cans sux. Also would be nice to see her trying to find all the replacement bolts nuts washers wire etc at the local supply shop. That was always a big adventure

    Hi Lin I’ve just watched you repair that Diesel engine you’ve done a very good job I might add, but you really should invest in a ball hone to deglaze the cylinder walls before fitting the piston and ring’s, as this will allow the rings to bed in properly and the engine will run much longer, also a ring compressor would make assembly a lot quicker and easier.

    • @joesinakandid528
      @joesinakandid528 2 года назад +1

      What made you think that she replaced the rings and therefore needing a honing of the cylinder walls?
      A ring compressor or twine - both work and so it's just what you are used to. (actually what Ms. Guoer is used to and not you, Kevin).

      @@joesinakandid528 I’m not for one moment criticising her work, in point of actual fact I admire her for what she has achieved. She may well have deglazed the cylinder wall’s off camera, if she hasn’t it’s just my advice from a retired mechanic with 55 years of experience. I hope she keeps up the good work because what she does works for her and I had no intention to offend her, but it seems I’ve offended you.

    If we did this repair in the 'states, we'd have to make it a multi-part, multi-month video while we waited for parts to arrive from China.

      @@rrmcbride555 Well, we didn't see her put any new/used parts on..for example rings..that's true. But I have improved the performance and operation of small engines by tearing them down for cleaning and inspection before reassembly..and they work great afterward. Her real skill/training seems to be with rewinding motors/generators.

    Very nice!! I did find this one a bit inefficient at the beginning. I would have wire brushed it first to clean the outside and removed a lot of the muck that got in the way when disassembling. I would have used WD40 to loosen some of the bolts. I would have put solvent in a spray bottle and used that to soften some of the old oil, and brushed not immerse. I might have powerwashed with soapy water. A box for sand-blasting. Impact wrench for breaking some of the bolts loose. Power sockets to speed removal. I am not there, so probably can't see things clearly. I watch these at quarter speed, so I have time to see, and learn, and time to think about other possibilities. Very enjoyable to see someone so diligent and caring.

    I am confused, can someone help me out here ?
    Apart from a missing water tank and broken exhaust, what other problems did this engine have ?
    I know Lin is a very clever and resourceful person but I do not understand why she tore the engine down in this case.
    It couldn't be just to clean and spray surely. It didn't appear that either the pot, rings or big end bearings were replaced so not sure what was accomplished by the tear down.
    Any clues ?

      I saw what looked like blow-by at the wrist pin but I have never seen her de-glaze a cylinder. I can't imagine the rings will break in properly or regain full compression.

    Hey, great channel. Just a tip to get you more people:
    Put in subtitles when you are fixing things like “Putting push rods in”. “Removing big end bearings”. “Sealing head gasket”.
    I know this would be more work/time, but I’m sure many people would like to see you doing/talking as you work…
    Some components that you take and clean, I have no idea what they are :)
