I remember Stringbean. I was just a kid, sitting on the floor watching Hee Haw, with my entire family. Good memories.
I remember when this happened. I watched Hee Haw too. Good clean entertainment

We watched Hee Haw at my Grandma Fanny's when we would sleep over at her house. Always a good fun show. When you live in Middle Tennessee you kind of feel a part of these folks lives. This was such a sad end for these folks.
Sad that they went through that scary moment. His poor wife trying to run away. May they both Rest In Peace 🌻✨
I can’t imagine how tore up grandpa jones was when he discovered them finding out his best friend was murdered

Their homes were across the holler from each other. My understanding is there were days one would visit the other, they would sit on their porch, not speaking for hours. Then the visitor would get up and go back home. Their friendship was so special, they didn't have to speak.
We all could use a friend like Stringbean or Grandpa Jones!
He didn't just find out, he found them. There was no 911 bak then. How do you dial an unfamiliar number on the fone when your hands are shaking, probly sick at your stomach.
It's always sad when you hear a story like that. How scared Estell must have been when she ran outside. RIP David and Estell.

I'm from where stringbean was originally from. Jackson county Kentucky they have a bluegrass festival every year there. It's called the stringbean bluegrass festival.

Stringbean knew something was wrong as he drove up to his home because he rigged his own security system by running a piece of string across at the start of his driveway. So when he drove up he noticed the string was down. That’s why he had his gun out when he entered his home.
I heard that exact same thing. Stringbean had a very high tech, but accurate alarm system. A string.
Maybe I should have said low tech, but very effective alarm system with that string. 😅 That's why he has his wife wait in the car and he went in with his gun drawn.
I would have just go to the neighbors and call the police

I watched String Bean when I was a little girl. My parents always had the country things on tv or the radio. He was a favorite because he was funny but he was very humble. Even on a show. It was good stuff to watch back then. Loved it.
I never realized just how much Stringbean influenced hip-hop fashion.

I never knew what happened to Stringbean & just stopped seeing him perform and thought he retired. So sorry that their lives were taken in such a horrific way. I was thinking how terrified Estell must have been as she fled for her life. Thanks Jordan.. as always very informative
Thank you for telling this tragic story of two good people that died way before their time. I never saw Stringbean perform, but this is a very well told history of this humble and talented man. I always love Grandpa Jones, especially when he did the "Hey Grandpa What's For Supper" on tv and Hee Haw.
I remember when this happened, I was 11yrs old at the time, my family talked about it and kept up with the story all the way through, to this day I hate that they both didn't die in prison!! What a sinceless thing to have happened to such a good and loving man and wife, String would have given the money, one reason he knew something was wrong was he always put a "string "across the entrance to the property, and that night it was down so he knew something was wrong! Still breaks 💔 my heart this happened, thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas "!!

What a tragic story! David and Estell must have been so scared. Unbelievable that John was released. The whole crime was just senseless and cruel. Although it was a sad story to tell, Jordan you kept their memory alive.
I really liked the Eddie Van Halen childhood home, but this is also great. I grew up on Hee Haw and traditional Country music, so this is great. I appreciate the respect that you show for the deceased.
One of Grandpa’s jokes ( old String Bean was so skinny he only had one stripe in his pajamas!) I never forgot that joke.

I LIVE IN EAST TENNESSEE JOHNSON CITY AND WAS 12 YEARS OLD WHEN STRINGBEAN AND ESTELLE WERE MURDERED THEY SHOULD HAVE GAVE THE KILLER'S THE DEATH PENALTY THEY GAVE THE, KILLER'S MERCY BUT THE KILLER'S DIDN'T SHOW STRINGBEAN AND ESTELLE ANY MERCY. THEY WERE NO JUSTICE FOR STRINGBEAN AND ESTELLE.

I remember when this happened. It was shocking.
I remember it also. My mother was a huge fan, she was from Kentucky and we watched Hee Haw every Saturday night. God rest their souls.
My dad was a huge Hee Haw fan. I will never understand how anyone can kill someone over money life is so precious. And string bean used to hide money all over his house he didn’t trust the banks and so when they went in the house they were looking for the money and couldn’t find it. There were people who knew this because he made it known that he hid money because he didn’t trust the banks so these guys must’ve been local
So do I. I was little, but the murders were so horrific, you can't forget. Hee Haw was on at our house every week.
Thanks for this, I have started to watch re-runs of Hee Haw and almost forgot about him. I watched it as a kid but String bean was already gone by the time I remember. I always remembered people talking about the murder and investigation shows being done about it. So sad.
I remember hearing about this from my Dad and later on watching about it on tv ,this was so sad that this happened to stringbean and his wife Estelle ,may they both rest in peace thanks for sharing this video Jordan.
Thanks Jordan, this is such a tragic story. Stringbean & Estell were good decent people who never harmed anyone. It must have made other performers in Nashville very nervous. Great to see you honour Stringbeam & Estell by doing this.

I was a young boy of 10 when this happened and I can remember it to this day. He was such a well know character on Hee Haw and we watched every episode. A horrible act commited on these old folks who wouldnt harm anyone. One thing I didnt know was that Grandpa Jones found them. Wow, Im sure he hsd to carry that weight with him the rest of his life as well. What a senseless awful thing.Thanks Jordan, Its been a long time sinse I have thought of them and Im glad you reminded me...I dont want to forget them.

Sad story about Stringbean and Estelle. When you visited the graveyard you said that Hawkshaw was a member of Patsy Clines Band. He wasn't in her band he was married to Jean Shepard and a recording star in his own right as was Cowboy Copas. Hawkshaw and Cowboy were both headliners...
I was only 8 when that happened. HeeHaw was a weekly thing for us and I remember being sickly devastated about this. Nice vlog 👍🏻😎

Great video. A story I know very well. I was 5 years old when this happened and Stringbean was the first entertainer I liked as a child. I had his record albums that I played and drove my mom crazy. Little Jimmy Dickens was the one who gave him those short pants he wore. The farm he lived on, he and Grandpa Jones owned it together. He told Grandpa there wasn’t anybody else in the world that he would go in half on a farm than him. I remember that Grandpa noticed no smoke coming from Strings chimney next morning, that’s when he went to the house to investigate, His death was my first experience of knowing about death as a child. I had nightmares a lot about David Akeman after this. I grew up steeped in bluegrass music because of my dad. Through the years I became friends with many bluegrass legends due to being on the radio with bluegrass music many years ago. Wish you could had gotten closer to the house, but you did very well with what you had access to. I had a long discussion with Lulu Roman of Hee Haw in 2019 about Stringbean. Not many of them left from the show, she has a walker to get around now. Thanks for sharing this.

I live in NE ala, i had old great aunts and uncles that lived up in the mountains that lived just like the Akemans. Fine humble people that wouldnt harm anybody. Thanks for showing such respect in honoring these fine folks.

That’s a name I’ve heard many a time in my life. Love dear old stringbean and grandpa Jones dearly. May they Rest In Peace. I still listen to them Often. Also super sad to see the Bill Monroe Statue isn’t there anymore, was hoping to visit and get a picture with it.

Jordan, the Rainbow Ranch really seems to suit you. My mom alway spoke of the Grand Ole Opry. She was from a country family who played the organ and guitars, and loved many of the stars on the show. I remember watching Minnie Pearl, but for the life of me, you will need to share about String Bean. He Haw was also a favored show. Such a sad story, kinda make one angry at how this was all handled.

String bean and Grandpa Jones were my dad's favorites. Spent many enjoyable evenings sitting on the floor watching Her Haw next to my Dad and Mom. It was such a terrible senseless death. I still watch reruns of the show to this day as they helped instill in me my love of bluegrass and Country Music.

Sounds like Stringbean and Estelle were just simple living people, not brash or flashy, murdered for absolutely no reason, for one of the killers to die, good, but for other evil pig to be given early release, any surprise Jordan in this day and age, there is no punishment for the crime, i can remember my grandma saying they never locked their doors, you sure as heck wouldn’t dream of doing that these days, thankyou sad vlog about a senseless murder x

I remember hearing Roy Clark say in an interview that Stringbean Akeman liked to flash around the wads of cash that he carried around. Roy said that he would tell him he was being foolish and that what he was doing was dangerous but Stringbean would just laugh about it. Sad story.
