I lived there nearly 20 years. First in Gallatin, and later in Hendersonville on Bluegrass Dr. just down the road from The Cash House and Twitty City. I used to see Johnny around town now and then. June sold her discarded clothes through a local resell shop and the owner would always call me to come look when new things came in because I bought most of it. June and I were the exact same size and she had very elegant taste offstage. I always looked forward to those calls back in the ‘90’s and thanks to June I was always very well turned out...lol...Thanks for taking me back, Jordan!

The world lost two great legends when Johnny Cash & Roy Orbson passed.
These gents had such incredibly beautiful voices.

My family has lived here since the late 80’s and we did Johnny and June’s plumbing work and they became family friends. They would hang out at my grandparents house along with Ricky Skaggs and have BBQ and play guitar. That was back in the day when we would go to the old Kroger and see Conway Twitty walking out with his groceries and it seemed like the stars where just simple people too. We did the cash’s plumbing work the day before June died in the hospital and right before Johnny died of a broken heart.

In 1968 after Johnny and June had just gotten married and they were in concert Gammage Auditorium at ASU. Before the concert someone came down into the audience and asked my mother and I to come back stage after the concert to meet Johnny and June. My mother was just thrilled and me too! Since the was right after their marriage June and Johnny were just beaming
And my mother was in tears. It was a wonderful meet and greet and we never knew how it happened that we got to go back stage but my mother said it was a highlight of her life!
I saw the house from the lake , I was in a boat , it was gorgeous,it was all glass on the lake side sand you could see gold records displayed on the walls

I saw the house from the lake many many times. My husband's best friend lived in Mt. Juliet and they taught me how to water ski on Hickory Lake! Good times. Husband went to a record party there. 😃❣️🇺🇲🇬🇷

Roy's house was right at the bend in the road before reaching the Cash home and Martina's was on the Right hand side up near the entrance of the neighborhood
I was at his house about a month after he passed. I was so sad when it burned down.

I love Johnny Cash. He was a amazing man who did what he wanted, and wasn't ashamed of it. He stood up for the poor and mistreated. Great vlog Jordan. Johnny Cash born in Kingsland Arkansas I live right down the road from it there is also planks and different things that are to do with him here and there is talk of putting a museum. Here. Anyhow my grandpa and Johnny cash was cousins. And there is alot of his family members that still live here. And buried here. And he use to come here all the time and visit and would go and set out in the park and play his guitar.

If your Grandpa & Johnny were cousins, that would also make you a cousin to Johnny as well, just further down the line. Figure out if they were 1st, 2nd, or 3rd cousins then go from there. From your Mom or Dad's side. For example: My Mom has 1st cousins. They are my 2nd cousins, I have 2 sons, now my son's are 3rd cousins & finally my Granddaughter's 4th cousins. Stemming from my Mom having 1st cousins. I come from a huge family. Lol! We have tried to have a family reunion for over 10 years now but can never find a venue large enough to hold us all near our original homestead. When we do get together we are over 900 strong and counting. They multiple generations are mind boggling. As a planner, I must keep it all straight too! The last time we got together the hall could only hold 350 ppl. We had to have meals in 3 sittings. We also had a visit from the movie set "The assassination of Jesse James by That Coward Robert Ford" why? Because he is a cousin too! Lol! It's hard to keep it all straight, but I have family records going back to 1854. So look into how your Grandpa was a cousin, I am sure you will trace the path to find your link. All the best. 😊 Edited to add that after 3 yrs of planning we were supposed to have our reunion in August 2020. Covid-19 canceled it. We are trying to reschedule but it's going to be a while again. At least until it's safe to do so.

Merle Kilgore and his wife Judy lived in same town as me (hank jr still does)and after he passed, she gave me all kinds of stuff- Cds, etc and even a like new washer and dryer. Good folks. Went out to eat with her at cracker barrel. Haven't seen her in years though. Merle was great friends with my boss is how I came to know his wife.

It was so sad 😭, that June died, before Johnny ! She died unexpectedly, and I remember people freaked out!!! But these headstones r so very very beautiful, and at least there together again!!! I visited that house in the seventies and while parked on the street I saw Johnny Cash .He was wearing black and barefooted, as he greeted a tour bus full of tourists.
When I was a kid in Phoenix, I'd be walking home from school and I'd hear the sounds of Johnny Cash blaring on the stereo. That was a clue that Dad wasn't home and everything was all right. So we got to play JC until supper!

Great stuff. Mr Cash is regularly on my turntable here in Ireland to remind me to walk the line. My wife and I have been together for 21 years next month and we're only early 40s. I always liked and respected that the Cash' had an enduring Love story that lasted.

What in the world is a turntable?
I have not heard a record player called a turntable for a long time.

A turntable is used to play Vinyl Records before CDs were invented in the early 1980s. You would stack several vinyl records and click the lock at the top of the stack. The first Vinyl Record would drop onto the turntable and a bar with a needle would move on to the edge of the vinyl record and the sound (music) would come out of the speakers. When your first record was done playing, the next one would drop down and the needle would move over onto the next record and begin to play.
You needed to make sure that your record player was set to the correct speed. Nearly all of the records you can buy is one of three common speeds: 33, 45 and 78 rotations per minute, otherwise listed as RPMs. That term is exactly what it sounds like, referencing the speed at which the vinyl record you’re listening to is supposed to rotate on the turntable you’re using. If you play at the incorrect speed the music may sound a bit funny.
When I was a teenager and a new song came out that we liked as a single, we would purchase the 45 record of that song. That song would be on the A side of the record and there would always be an additional song on the B side that you could play. Those 45 records were small…7 inches. When you purchased an album, which was referred to as an LP (long playing), the size was usually 10 inches. The number of songs can vary but are normally between 10 to 12 songs and 30 to 50 minutes in total.
My family only had one record that was a 78 speed that was from my Mom’s childhood in the 1950’s. It only had one song on it. 78 speed records were made from a material called “shellac”. There was a shortage of this material during WW2 because this material was also used to make explosives. By 1960 all records were made from Vinyl and they stopped producing 78 speed records.
I grew up in the 1960s & 1970s when vinyl records were popular. Before Digital Music was released in 1997, we had a 5 disc CD changer in my house and in my mini-van to play music.
I have heard that people have gone back to purchasing and listening to vinyl records over the past decade.
Another GREAT post. I was lucky enough to met him and June and visit this home in 1985 while coming to record in Nashville the first time with my good friend and neighbor Tommy Durden ( writer of heartbreak hotel) we took the trip from Michigan where we lived so he can accept an award for his writing of Heartbreak Hotel, and do some recording. I will NEVER forget the day I met Johnny & June. so humble, so kind. Thanks for this post. It is a shame this beautiful house was burnt to the ground.

I still have my father’s old Johnny Cash albums and love them! My son now lives in Hendersonville, and I have driven out to the home site several times. It’s an amazing place for a home. I can see why they loved it there. If you like burgers, go for a Jumbo and Delicious! It’s close by....

I live here, right next to the cemetery that he and June are buried in. One time there was a traveling band that diverted their trip by 800 mi to go to his grave site and they brought a portable amp and all their instruments and were around his grave singing all his songs, it was amazing! The house was burned when Gibb purchased the house and it was being redone, they were redoing the floors and somehow that's how it caught on fire. 😔 We are friends with his brother Tommy and his wife Marcy, met at church. Such a nice family.

Little weird that two houses next to each other belonging to iconic people would both burn down. Seems like more than a coincidence.
@@RG-hf4et The second fire happened while workers were remodeling the house for Barry Gibb. The workers had just put a coat of wood perserving laquer on the wood -- and a spark ignited the fire. The rest is history.
Roy Orbison had two homes by Johnny Cash. The 1st house burned down in 1969, tragically two of his young sons died in that house fire, Roy Dewayne Orbison -10 yrs old, and Anthony King Orbison - 6 yrs old. It is believed that possibly one or both of the boys may have accidentally started the fire, no one knows for sure. Years later, Roy built another home not far from the house that burned. Roy was very distraught after the fire and sold that property to Johnny Cash, who later turned it into a garden in memory of the two boys. Roy’s 2nd house is still standing!

My earliest memory of Johnny Cash is my first concert with my Grandparents. My Grandparents were able to go back stage and shake Johnny's hand.

Great job, Jordan! I had always wanted to see the Cash "home" and property up close like a tourist. My wife wants to go to Nashville someday, so hopefully, we'll do what you just did. I got to see Johnny twice in Kansas City. The second time was really great because NO one knew June was with him. It was announced and billed as Johnny Cash in Kansas City. Then, about halfway, thru the show, June comes walking up some steps from nowhere on too the stage and the crowd blew up. They did "Jackson" and one other song. My mom got to meet and talk to Johnny early in his career as he appeared in Kansas City, Kansas. He stayed at the Townhouse Hotel (where Patsy Cline stayed) where she was the elevator operator. I have a Townhouse Hotel postcard with his autograph.

In 1972, Johnny Cash said that the best car he ever owned was a 1954 Plymouth. Chrysler found out about this and searched, and found Johnny Cash a mint low mileage 1954 one lady school teacher owned mint condition Plymouth. Chrysler gave the teacher a new Plymouth. I have always wondered what ever happened to the 54 Plymouth he received from Chrysler. I am a vintage car inthusiaist, and interested if the relic Plymouth is still around somewhere. Anyone know? Samuel terry today is sept 3,2020 & just yesterday i was telling my grandson about our plymouth,a 1950s model guess late 1950s model. Can't remember the model though,we bought it used in 1964. It had the wings on the back,brown & white,& was pushbutton automatic!! We traded it in($100)tradein on 1965 mustang! First year they came out. Sky blue or powder blue,5 speed in floor,white leather interior.think we paid $1900 for the mustang.

The guy who owns Johnny's moms house is a great guy he owns a Johnny Cash museum near by and has alot of things including most of The Colonial Tom Parkers house.

Just an FYI correction: Dylan recorded "Nashville Skyline" at Columbia Records Studio A in Nashville, not at Johnny Cash's house. However, Cash was recording at Columbia's complex at the same time as Dylan, the two met and ended up spending two days recording 15 songs together.
Johnny and June Carter passed away in 2003......amazing how quickly time passes.

My grandparents grew up with "JR" Cash. The first birthday party my grandpa ever attended was the party for JR's brother Tommy.

Excellent vlog,Jordan! In the late 90s, my friend saw Johnny and June in an airport lounge, waiting to catch a plane. They were sitting together, "holding hands like two high school kids." (his words) That image always sticks with me. Thank you for showing us their resting place as well as their beautiful property.

I have been to Johnny and Roy’s houses. Johnnys was wood and so country. Roy’s house had big metal gates with 2 huge music notes on it.
One of my dad's favorite singers! When Johnny Cash had his TV show in the 70s my brother and I would record the Johnny Cash TV show for my dad because he worked second shift. We used a cassette tape recorder LOL

I lived in Hendersonville back in the early 70's on the other side of that lake (Old Hickory Lake) and took a few trips to see the Cash home. It was beautiful. The best thing that ever happened there was when we had taken my Grama up there and Johnny was actually out there just chatting with people. She got to meet him and it was the thrill of her life. He was just a normal guy. Sometimes we'd see him and his son down at a little store not far from his home. It's been a long time so I dont' remember the name...I'm sure it's not there anymore

My wife and I were at the gravesite just a couple days after you posted this....nice job!!! We also visited Ferlin Husky which he is in this cemetery as well....he's also a great singer who sang "on the wings of a dove". Thanks for posting and I love all the history you had in this VLOG.

Great video. Johnny and June have beautiful graves so does Merle. The flowers at Johnny and June's graves are beautiful. You know I remember when you visited Isaac Mayer's grave. How cool Isaac's tombstone was with all the pictures on it. Celebrities have the coolest happiest looking graves. It makes being buried not look so morbid and depressing. I love the Merle bench with the boot on each side of it too.I can't believe you said Johnny Cash has sold over 90 million albums.Amazing. What an amazing life

Johnny Cash had the same nickname as Dale Earnhardt Sr.,the man in black.Found out Dale Earnhardt Sr. was a Johnny Cash fan and there was a diecast car made.One side was Dale Sr. and the other was Johnny Cash.Can't forget this song too,one piece at a time.

Love your country music vlogs you're doing and this one was just great! Johnny Cash was the man and loved the Carter family. I wrote and recorded 5 country songs , the guy who wrote "Teddy Bear" for Elvis listened to them at my music teachers with me and said I had two hits on there, unfortunately hardly anybody has ever heard them LOL.

Awesome video Jordan! I knew that Barry Gibb had bought the Cash property after they passed but I had no idea that the house burned down. I still thought Barry owned it, lived there and worked on his music there, at least that's what he said he intended to do. Also interesting to know that Roy Orbison (another fantastic artist, gone to soon). I did not know that Roy Orbison lost two children in a house fire on his property. This just shows you that no one is infallible (money and fame) and as far as the Cashes dying in such close proximity I guess that just goes to show what happens when your best friend goes before you. They truly loved each other at least in my eyes. They came to Winnipeg once and I wanted to go see them unfortunately I didn't and I still kick myself for that! I can't believe that it's been 17 years since their passing-my how time flies. Please give a big hug and kiss to Jah for me!

June's mom was my great grandma's cousin and wat back in the day, my grandparents took their 3 sons which is my dad and 2 uncles, they went down to visit Johnny cash and to go see one of the first microwaves ever made cause he had one. My great grandma and my grandparents went to visit them all the time and they told us alot about them.

The plaque is newer. I lived in Nashville when it burned down. The wood floors were being refinished after Barry Gibb bought it. It was flammable material and the workers started the fire. I went by there a few days after. There were burned beams laying in the driveway by the guard shack. His parents house was for sale at the time.

I was blessed to meet him in 1975 i think i still love him and June and the music they made together i got to meet his dad on a visit to the cash home Johnny wasn't there sadly but thanks for bringing those memories back to life for me. I walked down the driveway and played with his dog (just a little puppy)
