Don't care what u guys are upto in the vids. This is about the 15th vanlife channel we watch, and it's about having a window into other peoples world I guess. Me and the misses have always said we'd like to do something like this. All the best lads.
Thanks so much Gareth, appreciate that and love that you both enjoy the vids. If you do get chance to travel in a van then definitely give it a go, it's an experience like no other that's for sure. Maybe renting one for a weekend is a good way to test the waters if you're ever able to
Don’t change anything we love watching all of it, especially Happy when he’s moaning and groaning because that is just like the two of us Steve you’re wonderful❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Hi guys, love your channel. You are always true to yourselves, never change that. The balance is good of travel v Van life. Best bits are Dan's history fun facts and Stevie's cooking demonstration 😂❤xx
Thanks Caroline, love that you enjoy the history (and food 🤣) bits 😀 Judging by the responses I think we'll keep going as we are then, which is a bit of a relief actually 😂 I think we'll always be a bit of everything ❤
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it 😊 I think the outside was probably the most interesting part in fairness even though it would have been nice to go in. Yes love that phrase, it's a regular with us, even if we don't always abide by it 😂
Suffolk in general seems a lovely place to live. Never thought I'd be keen on "flat" areas, but Suffolk/Norfolk changed my mind! Yes Bury was great, really enjoyed our visit and bought a birthday present for my mum whilst there too. Thank you 😊
Just do what you guys are doing. It’s nice to see just down to earth guys travelling and living life that happens to be in a van. You guys make me smile each video. Dan is a breath of fresh air. Steve is just so funny when moaning.
Cheers Paul, we try to just be ourselves and "go with the flow' with videos so they hopefully never seem staged or anything like that, although obviously we have to plan things to a degree. Thank you for the kind comment, appreciate it 😍
There are a few National Trust properties where members can camp in your motorhome overnight - may be worth a bit of research! Also the coastal and protected landscapes around the UK managed by the Trust offer countless adventures and parking for “free” with your membership.
Ooh we didn't know that, thanks for that! We did also think you could probably just ask in some places as well, no harm in trying 🤷♂️ Yes there's so so many National Trust scenic spots and car parks so we'll make the most of that on our travels. Thanks for watching 👍
Ah well that's definitely one wish you'll be getting as we need to make the most out of our membership 😁 Although there will be periods without it as we plan to head to Europe in a few months 🤞
Been a national trust member for 15 years and this is the only trust property I have ever visited since becoming a member took my campervan there and had a relaxing afternoon in the grounds last summer works out that one afternoon visit cost me around 800 in membership fees since I joined
Blimey, I hope you had a bloody good day then to make all that value for money 😂 There are so many though, they are well worth going out of your way for and there's bound to be others near you
Can't believe we lived so close to Bury St Edmunds before we moved to Spain, yet have never had a good look round. £4.50 for a day in a Camper specific space sounds more like it, we were so shocked by the lack of facilities for UK Van Lifers, bit of an eye opener As for the channel content, we love what you are doing, so keep it coming, much love Darren & Alison 🤟♥️
Thanks guys, appreciate it 🙏 Yes that was a rare allowed spot and reasonably priced. Recently we went to Boughton on The Water - they wanted £25 for 24 hours in a car park. No services or anything, just to park and sleep. Insane. We are grateful for anything we find here that's suitable, safe and doesn't cost the earth 😂 We don't mind paying out, but some things are joke levels. Such is the way. As for Bury, that's often the case isn't it, places we live local to but rarely get chance to or even think of seeing. Amazing what's on your own doorstep! Safe travels guys ❤️
Thank you Dale ❤ I assure you I'm not always positive but it does depend on the situation 😂 Yes we'll try to do more about how we juggle life in the van, appreciate the feedback 👍
Channel is great. Reality of vanlife and the marvellous opportunities it brings to explore. Suggestion: Lincoln. There is a car park high up close to the castle where you can stay overnight and the little streets up by the castle and cathedral are very cute. 🤗🚌❤️
Hi Guys! Agree with you that prices to just visit the grounds,as non member, are extortionate! Should at least be per vehical n not per person! It does not encourage new membership! Besides that though....national trust owns a lot of " scenic land" that does not have a big house on it...such as around the coast etc n as a member you can get " free parking" - which can save you a heck of a lot of money on a 'holiday' ! E.g. half day parking £5/10...full day £20... so worth your while checking out those sites!
Thank you and I'm glad we're not the only ones to think so! These sites are very hit and miss, some you only pay for the house itself (like Petworth Manor in Sussex) but the grounds are free. This one you had to pay the same whether you went in or not 🤷♂️🤨 So glad of the membership, but if you're paying for individual days out and need to watch the pennies a bit, you do have to pick wisely and check the website too. Absolutely agreed about the car parks, I think that will save us tons in the long run! Thanks for watching 🤗 ❤
You will find that many National Trust properties close in the winter to do essential conservation work and for cleaning. There are a few exceptions, and Ickworth does allow pre-booked conducted tours in winter, free flow tours are more normal in the main season. English Heritage is open more in winter due to the nature of the properties. It was worse 40 years ago when I tried visiting places in the autumn/winter, nothing was open and very few campsites were open either.
Thank you for the info 🙏 It was entirely my (Dan's) fault, we always check the website but this bit of info I'd missed. With our membership (which we think will be worth it, but we'll work it out at the year's end) it means there's no great loss if it's only the grounds we get to explore because there will always be other days/properties, but paying for a day out without the membership just to walk around grounds would be incredibly steep. We're enjoying it so far though, there's so many to see! 😍
My other half bought Life Membership of NT about 30 years ago. Seemed like an extravagance at the time, but it's certainly paid for itself in the long run. Then he got EH life membership a year or two later (work bonus), again it's paid for itself over time. That was back in our tent camping days. Now in retirement we get the benefit of days out for little cost when we travel in the campervan. Loving the videos btw.
Wow lifetime membership! I expect if you do it that early on it will pay for itself over and over for sure. That sounds wonderful that you get to go out in the van and enjoy those places that you technically paid for all those years ago. There's a lot to see, and worth revisiting across the seasons no doubt. Glad you're enjoying the videos, thank you ❤
Hi Guys, I enjoy your channel just as it is! One of my favourite National Trust sites is Stourhead Gardens in Wiltshire, I'd like to see you visit there sometime in the late spring or early summer on a nice sunny day, I think you'd love it. Also Lindisfarne Castle (NT) and the whole coast around it is gorgeous and while there visit Cragside also NT.
Thank you for the suggestions, wow Lindisfarne looks right up our street! I was really surprised that National Trust have a few castles in their hoard, I thought I might miss that from English Heritage, so it's good to see we've got some of those options here 😀 Definitely can't wait to visit places in warmer weather as well. Thank you! 😍
Loving all your content so far but I would like to know a bit about yourselves and how /why you ended up as vanlifers/ How did you meet? How long have you been together? Where were you living when you had a house? whos idea was it to live in a van? where do you park up as a base when you are not travelling ?..etc .. maybe I am just too nosey 😅😅
Haha, no it's all fair questions and we keep meaning to address it all one day! I think we have mentioned some of them in pieces over time though. We've been together 15+ years, we met online, and our last place of residence was Dover before we embarked on living in a van. It was Stephen's idea too, and eventually I came around to it 😉 We don't have a base we park up in - when we work, we park there on site, and visiting family etc involves just parking in car parks or the side of a road, and usually staying over with them until we leave. A base of our own would be lovely but I don't think we're in a position to be able to do that and be full time in the van sadly, so it's one or the other...for now!
I think you have the mixture about right, how people manage daily life on the move is quite often more interesting than history, after all we will all be history ourselves eventually. 🤪Keep it quirky.
Thank you for the feedback! I think we'll likely just keep on doing what we're doing and see what takes our fancy. We'll probably do a (roll eyes) dreaded "van tour" at some point so everyone see exactly what we've got in there and how it works etc
Wales is still on the agenda! 😁 We've been thwarted twice, but it will happen one day 😂 Shetland sounds amazing and I think we'd be well up for that one!
Just keep doing what you're doing. I'll tag along! Wouldn't mind a visit to the North Norfolk coast. It's gorgeous there but not too van friendly from whey I've heard. It'd be interesting to see how possible full time van life is there.
Thanks Ewan, yes we've found Norfolk particularly difficult but it is beautiful there. We did Holkham in a very early video and some other spots I think. We'll be back though no doubt
Love all aspects of your channel, getting to see what van life is really about, do you guys ever visit any RSPB reserves, I think most of them are free, the one at Geltsdale in Cumbria is really nice although quiet this time of year but should be better in a few weeks time when the migratory birds return, it's also close to Hadrian's wall.
Thank you, and you know I don't think we have stayed in any actually (even for the day) so that's certainly worth looking at. Especially as there's likely to be walks nearby. We've never done any of Cumbria but it's on the list! 😍
Stephen oozes positivity. Don’t ever change. 😂👍 £4.50 is an absolute bargain. Stephen must have been ecstatic 😂 Omg! Stephen loved Bury St Edmond’s too. I enjoy watching you both doing whatever you do. Great vlog. Well done 😉👍❤️xx
Oh as if he'd change now, I suspect he'd need a hospital stay if that happened, in fact so would I 😂 Yeah it was just a car park but damn you can't argue with that when you're in a van. We could definitely do with more spots like that here. Thank you so much and glad you're enjoying the vids 😍 xx
I think that works best for us. And after all, there's only so many videos you can make saying "this is what it's like in a van". I think we like putting little bits here and there in the videos as we go. But always happy to take on suggestions for example if we haven't covered something you'd like to see, or places you'd like to see us go etc. Thanks for watching 🤗
Hi guys. Or is that dears? 😂 I (Robert) just found your channel by chance last night & love it. I’ve already clicked the subscribe button Once our transit van conversion is done, we are looking forward to exploring the country too. Probably myself alone most of the time rather than with my wife due to her work patterns, but hopefully we’ll have plenty of adventures together How did you find winter in the van? Take care for now. Robert (and Laura)
Hi Robert, you can call us dears or guys, we'll take either 😁 Thank you for subscribing! We really appreciate that 🙏 Winter in the UK in a van is challenging for sure. We have quite a basic set up, but as long as our lpg gas is topped up we can have the heating on. It's mostly the wet, mud and dark days that make it difficult though. But we still enjoy it, and the van heats quite well even from cooking (which obviously uses a lot less gas than our heating). Ultimately it's a case of wearing more layers and we try to make the best of it. When you're under the covers sleeping it makes no difference either really - we make sure we've got a thick duvet and blankets. Hope your conversion goes well so you can head out on some adventures soon 😍
@@comealongdear we’ve got a diesel heater in ours but it has the annoying ticking sound so I don’t think it’d be very good for trying to get to sleep. However like you said, once you’re under the covers it doesn’t really matter much. I wish I was able to quit the rat race & live in the van once it was done. Too many things keep me tied to it for now though. But ultimately our goal is to get abroad somewhere as off-grid as possible. Have you looked at the Northumberland 250 route for somewhere else to go? It’s not as well known as the Scottish north 500 route. It’s on my to do list once the van is ready.
Thanks again for letting me spend half an hour with you guys... Felt like a grumpy German channel for a second, but then the English humour prevailed. I am struggling with the content question as well. Am I chasing the algorithm or do I just film what I like and enjoy doing?? Same to you guys - do what you like - because that genuine vibes comes across when you do something you enjoy. Quick question though: why does it feel like you're always somewhere for a short, brief time. Isn't the point of vanlife that there is no rush ?
Hi Jack, haha are German channels particularly grumpy then?! 😂 Yes I think filming what you want is key, otherwise it takes over your life in an unpleasant way. But we still like to hear feedback. I think trying to chase the algorithm (who knows what that even means though 🤪) is fine, of course you want views and subscribers, but it should never compromise what you yourself want to film and enjoy. As for our brief stays, no you are quite correct, we don't tend to linger long. I think it's because due to our work being in blocks of weeks, we try to fit in what we can between those periods. It's also a bit easier for various reasons to move around more in the UK, unless you're on a campsite. We have filmed in quite a lot of Suffolk and Norfolk (with one more video there to come) lately, so we do stick to some areas, just on a slightly bigger scale than say, a single town. Cheers Jack, envious of your warmer weather right now! 😂
@@comealongdear Are you kidding me ? Germans are the whingers of Europe ! You will find out when you visit this year (still the plan ?). Oh and apart from their sense of "Ordnung muss sein", they are also famous for their lack of humour ... But I still love my adoptive country (he added quickly)
I'd heard about those things, but not the complaining! How will Stephen cope with all those rivals in Germany 😂 Yes still the plan to visit there in Spring/early summer hopefully. I do love British humour, but I don't mind a bit of bluntness and "order" where people just speak plain and to the point, it suits my habit of taking everything so literally, so I think I might quite like the Germans 😁
have a relationship with a man......yes I can imagine that!!!! as a strait man I do have a brother that I love.....but you didnt mean that did you? that said I dont care...I love who I love regardless....and I love your vlogs...so go and be happy....P.S. still for Steve I would maybe change my mind
Hey Robert! Well love is love as they say 😁😍 So happy you love the vlogs, and Steve will be THRILLED to know he has the power to change someone like that 😂 All the best 👍 ❤

I'd like you to visit Cambridge so I can meet you.
Ah we love Cambridge! It's definitely on the list of places to go back 😁
Ask Steve if he would consider shaving his neck, that would make his beard look tidy 😂❤
Haha he does trim it up a lot, it just gets a bit wild on occasion 😂

that said I dont care...I love who I love regardless....and I love your vlogs...so go and be happy....P.S. still for Steve I would maybe change my mind
Hey Robert! Well love is love as they say 😁😍 So happy you love the vlogs, and Steve will be THRILLED to know he has the power to change someone like that 😂 All the best 👍 ❤
