@dracksdeath I recommend playing Mythologies. He was not evil. He was an assassin ready to do evil things sure. But he was more of an anti-hero. @@Evoker23-lx8mb but that could only be an assumption on your part, at least that's what I think. In Mk9 which I believe is the start of the NRS reign, Bi Han wasn't even evil in that game, Kuai Liang wanted to honour him by using his mantle, showing that he at least was worthy of respect, and he didn't commit any bad acts.
@@Elijahhh. or it could be just as simple as “Younger brother idolises older brother”. There had to have been some darkness in him especially seeing as even as Noob Saibot he still answers to Bi Han showing that he’s not a completely different being.
Bi-Han could’ve worked as a villain if they set him up more properly. A villain that means well, but is misguided. Specifically his motivations and reasoning. Like have him start as a hero frustrated with the Lin Kuei ways and traditions maybe because of the many Lin Kuei warriors that died during their service to defend Earthrealm and the many that survived may have trauma due to the loss of their comrades and loved ones. I don’t know have his father be very hard on Bi-Han since he’s the first son and the next in line to become the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. I’m thinking like they received no compensation for their service to Earthrealm. Something like that. Or have Bi-Han as more of a Anti-Hero with different methods that are extreme but thought that those methods could benefit the Lin Kuei with good intentions instead of selfish and evil ones. Both ways would have worked with proper execution. This just reminds me of the character assassination of Sindel in MK11. The way Bi-Han acted reminds me of Sektor. If anything Sektor would make more sense if he was in Bi-Han’s role. I’m a fan of Scorpion, Smoke and Sub-Zero, I’m glad the writers were able to handle Scorpion and Smoke very well despite the changes of Scorpion’s identity, but how could they messed up Bi-Han?
Sometimes, villains don't have to have reasons to be the way they are imo. Bi-Han is a villain who thinks his intentions are the best for the clan, but ultimately pushes him to this path of greed for power. Shang Tsung only inflamed his already greedy and prideful personality more by offering him a tempting alliance. He hates his clan being "shackled" to Liu Kang and possibly hated his father for allowing the clan to turn out this way.
The new generation of mortal kombat games is always like this. They dont really care about maintaining consistency with battles, taking into consideration the combatants established strength and experience. The old games in the PS2 days had way better stories. Ed Boon himself said that all they care about in the story is just to create a conflict to trigger a fight. And they need a few fights to justify the hours long story mode.
To be completely fair, strength in numbers is quite a nice thing to have, not to mention they're also worn out after fighting two of the strongest sorcerers in MK
I think Bi-Han was lying about letting his father die. The loss still possibly affected him and could be the reason behind his cold nature. He probably just told Kuai Liang this to soften the blow for his betrayal to get his brother to hate him and also he was embarrassed that he was too weak to save their father.
It's great how the Lin Kuei and Scorpion and Sub Zero were reimagined. Kuai Liang as Scorpion shows how much he shared characteristics with Hanzo in previous titles and with Smoke's ending it is revealed that a hungry boy that was taken in as one of the first disciples of the Shirai Ryu is Hanzo, NRS may very well have Bi-Han be killed and become Noob Saibot, and have the new Hanzo Hasashi to be the next Sub Zero in a very dramatic and poetic turn. Though what is somewhat plothole-y is Bi-Han's disposition. Shang Tsung and Quan Chi had their planned destinies and fate completely altered because of interference by Shang Tsung, but Bi-Han was already an angry, defiant, ambitious and quite essentially traitorous and evil character even before the influence of Shang Tsung - he was already annoyed and frustrated at the role of the Lin Kuei and Liu Kang before the events of the game; either Liu Kang oversaw and just didn't bother with making him less of what he was or Liu Kang just made Bi-Han that way and that's kinda strange. That the Lin Kuei is going to be a threat again with the Cyber Initiative and that Bi-Han is now an independant force could have entirely been avoided if Liu Kang just... decided otherwise.
How did this Scorpion become the new Sub Zero? Because this shows how he got that scar on his face, which he has as Sub Zero in MK 11, meaning Hanzo took his place as the new Scorpion. Thats the part I need to go more in depth with. It makes sense just missing pieces to the story.
@@johnsteve39 it seems that people can be born with different powers , in the end their ambitions, personality, role and name are what makes them , well them. Hanzo is still a person of rage. Reason I say this is while kuai is one example, another is in the end. Havocs on characters have different powers. Quan chi being the most notable as a cyromancer.
It might just be me, but I have a theory that Bi-Han here will become Cyber Sub Zero given that he helps in starting the Cyber Initiative. I know it can be unlikely and that he may die and comeback as Noob again, but with him and Sektor leading the Cyber Initiative, I think it would be an interesting twist for Bi-Han to become Cyber Sub-Zero instead of Noob
I believe Bi Han hated how the Lin Kuei defended Earthrealm, a realm divided by many governments, for centuries and gained nothing in return. After seeing his ending, it is likely he will create a nation run by the Lin Kuei with the Cyber-Lin Kuei (actual androids not repurposed human beings) to be their army. The question is if Bi Han will become the new "Vengeful Scorpion" in the form of Noob Saibot when he gets betrayed by Frost and Sektor.
I feel a lot of people have been wondering about why Bi-han turned evil and as a psychology student and armchair psychologist I feel the need to shed some light on why this happened I do believe that the story is very well written just because of the fact that it captures the small moments that you really should pay attention to. Bi-han is a man who fundamentally feels that everyone is against him, that no one respects him and that no one deserves sympathy for being a voice against his deepest fear that he is alone. This frustration inside bi-han was on the verge of a nuclear disaster, all it needed was an obviously evil manipulative psychopath to convice him that HE was right and that no one else really matters except him because he is the only person he can ever really trust. This then turned to rage and an unquenchable thirst for revenge,he had to show everyone HE was worthy, HE had value, HE was someone. He basically turned into a maniacal narcissist, clouded by delusions of grandeur. He is a really realistic character because this is something that happens in real life. People turn vile and evil because of their childhood. Children need to feel loved and supported and if they dont its a risk that they may turn their path towards evil. Its unlikely but they are a dog without a leash and they REQUIRE guidance. I have to admit I rushed through this story because I at first wanted to look at it from a technical standpoint, how does everything fit together, how does it work? But I really missed the human side of it, as I often do ngl😂 Awesome writing fr
His character was well-written, yes, and this is a wonderful facet of the story. However, the makeup of the story overall was poorly-written.. hopefully the dlc will fix this.
@@zacharywidmoyer4954 yeah i feel they couldve done alot more with this story, the first half of the game feels paced and sensible but the latter half feels forced and obvious, I think they shouldve focused more on the reality of the new timeline instead of just going with the full on Armageddon approach
This basically mirrors the old OG continuity that said that the Shirai Ryu were founded by an ancient defector of the Lin Kuei, which is why they're in an eternal blood feud
Plot twist in the next game we learn through flashbacks that BiHan’s dad was an asshole that pushed him way harder due to his heir to the throne. Everyone views him as a good dude including Liang but only Bihan seen the real guy.
@@blckotaku5250 Yup, Kuai Liang said that he always knew Bi-Han's frustrations ran deep but hoped that they would be tempered or fade in time holding out hope that his brother would eventually see the positives of their way of having done things instead of only seeing the negatives of how they had been. Even after the betrayal, he does not seek to kill Bi-Han, likely because he sees Bi-Han's grievances and frustrations being the driving factor behind his madness rather than mere petty greed even if he condemns Bi-Han's actions. Just like in previous timelines, Kuai Liang is still holding out on hope against hope that Bi-Han can still be redeemed.
What nature? He was never evil Ed Boon took everything that made him & his brother great & gave it to Scorpion & Basically gave Bi-Han Sektor's Personality.
I was initially open since some of her lines seemed fine. But hearing her in the full story, she's just not good. I sincerely don't know why they casted her other than for star power.
Usually in games I with they would just stick to VAs because that’s where the skills is involved or if they did have a celebrity, just keep it under wraps because I end up knowing through marketing and I end up thinking about the celebrity when listening to the character rather than what’s going on in the game
It would have been much better writing if they'd lost on purpose to get Shang Tsung to explain his plan. It also would have been better writing not to just make Bi-Han evil for no actual reason.
idk, it was pretty obvious since the beginning that Bi Han was power hungry, so it'd make sense that he'd betray liu kang for a chance at gaining more power
To be honest, I was expecting Bi-Han to get his redemption in this game (something that I really wanted since he needs one), but maybe the creators showing Bi-Han's flaws and cold side is a way to properly build up his redemption and flesh out his character more, showing us his original personality before doing his redemption. Maybe in the next game, we'll see Bi-Han get it. Bi-Han (Original Sub-Zero) is the kind of the guy who may seem cold and callous, but he's by no means evil; his personality is a lot deeper than what he may seem on the outside. He's a pretty complicated and enigmatic dude.
Bi Han really needs Xanax and therapy…I’ve never seen the man calm at least one second in this game, he is always angry at Anything, everyone and everywhere
in this timeline most of powers are now magic which can be trained and mastered, not like in previous where your powers coming from your heritage or any demonic/god powers
imagine getting beat up by your younger brother as a revenant and then getting a whole new universe just to get beat up by your brother again. Bi-Han really got it rough out here LOL
I still believe Bi-Han can be redeemed. Some of his intros show him regretting his trust towards Shang Tsung, realizing Shang took advantage of his vulnerability that stemmed from his frustrations. Shang manipulated him into thinking they both shared similar problems. Bi-Han thought Shang had sympathetic reasons like him, but didn't realize in time that he was not like him. There are also intros where he apologized for being indirectly involved in Sindel's death (including the fact that he indirectly betrayed both Earthrealm and Outworld) and that when he trusted Shang, Shao, and Quan Chi, he earned nothing. Bi-Han tried so hard but didn't realize it would lead to him making problems for himself. Bi-Han essentially made an honest mistake. Ashrah even states in one of her intros that Bi-Han is capable of redemption. I also hope Bi-Han and Sareena end up together in the current timeline.
In MK11 you could tell the most that Shao Khan was evolving into something more reptilian. Im glad they seem to be continuing that in MK1. Kind of tells me though that there is an hourglass somewhere still undisturbed and running in the background. The writers of this damn game have opened themselves up for so much story potential, its amazing. The crossovers with the characters seem to have been something that should have already happened. Since before the crossover with like Baraka/Crock and so on. But im stoked about it. Who your favorite so far? If have to say mine is Shao Goro.... BUT ive yet to see NoobZero or Noob/anything for that matter lol
Why do I feel like Bi-Han is Sektor and Kuai is Cyrax. I see a parallel between these two pairs. Both Cyrax and Scorpion struggle between their loyalty and their judgement.
Bi-Han become evil is similar with sindel in mk11, when ed boon and the team made them to become ruthless, don't care about their family, and eviler than before (doesn't have a positive attribute like midway era)
That is exactly how this feels, and Sindel was just killed off after finally being able to spend time as a heroic character again (by the same evil Sindel no less like it's some meta message to the fans who hated evil Sindel and wanted good Sindel back). We can expect similar to happen to Bi-Han if he gets any sort of redemption in the foreseeable future.
Just a correction on the video's title. Bi Han didn't TURN EVIL. He ALWAYS HAS BEEN EVIL. Even before Shang Tsung manipulated him, he let his own father die, just to take his place as grandmaster. 😢😢😢
Ngl I wish they did him as an anti hero instead this time rather than just full villain. Not wanting to be Liu Kang jobber while also willing to fuck up Shang sung so his clan could prosper much more
Arcade endings aren't always canon I don't know why people bring this up. If arcade endings were canon Liu Kang would be a mad God in MK9 and Kabal would be with Sareena in MK11. Hanzo is MIA. My theory is that he is Noob Saibot. I believe that he will join Kuai Liang's Shirai Ryu as one of the first members and be killed in a misunderstanding with Liu Kang. Being ressurected by Quan-chi once more as a specter of death.
@@hetoverseo3887 True, but this game seems different. In previous games the endings often contradicted each other so they clearly couldn't all be canon. In this one all the endings seem like they could fit together seamlessly.
Its agree to make Bi Han back to noob saibot under Quan chi command or the cyber lin kuei, But kuai Liang deserve better , he couldn't have not restored him back, his heart pure evil. We see the next MK timeline, this time its won't change

I don't really see him as "evil". I feel like its most so whatever aligns with his interest, he will do it. Cause even with his intros with Sub-Zero, even though its animosity, he still calls him brother
It would have been soo much better if it was Hanzo and bi han has brothers. And Bi-Han should have been less evil but more anti-heroish but other than that, I’m happy he isn’t dead

He was a character that was honorable and capable of doing good. He was also capable of doing evil things for his clan.
But ever since MK9 Bi-Han is poorly written and reduced down to "Evil mouhahaha *moustache twirling*"
NRS are okay at making interesting stories and heroes, but horrible at making villains that have layers. I hope they work on that in the future.
Nah Bi-Han was evil waaaaay before Mk9 dude even in armageddon it was revealed that he was noob
I think that he has more reasonal goals this time , from his perspective he is just building a better clan and wants the glory , he doesn't want to be a pawn or pay tribute to no one ...a revolutionary man
@dracksdeath I recommend playing Mythologies.
He was not evil. He was an assassin ready to do evil things sure. But he was more of an anti-hero.
Even his anger as Noob Saibot was somewhat justified since his death at the hands of scorpion was greatly orchestrated against him.
It's only after the reboot with MK9 that he was turned into a boring one dimensional evil rule the world type villain.
Bi-Han is my favorite character ever since I played in the 90's. And I was shocked by how poorly his character arc was treated in MK1. I seriously thought he was tricking ShangTsung into trusting him, since him swapping sides was comical at best.

@@Elijahhh. true but it’s not the same as changing Sindel to always be evil when in previous games she’s been shown or said to be good. In the NRS timeline he was never shown to be good and in this one, a new timeline, he was probably never good to begin with.
13:18 I love how Kuai Liang said to Tomas (Smoke) We may not share blood, but we are brothers.

You just now seeing this?? All MK games been like that when playing as that fighter they all beat one another in different stories.
it feel like a lucky shot of the soldier who kicks Bi-han, a Shield in the face is hard to tank
Tbf they got blindsided
The new generation of mortal kombat games is always like this. They dont really care about maintaining consistency with battles, taking into consideration the combatants established strength and experience. The old games in the PS2 days had way better stories.
Ed Boon himself said that all they care about in the story is just to create a conflict to trigger a fight. And they need a few fights to justify the hours long story mode.
To be completely fair, strength in numbers is quite a nice thing to have, not to mention they're also worn out after fighting two of the strongest sorcerers in MK
0:22 Bi-Han: "do i hear a b**ch talking? Cuz you sound like a b**ch right now."
I think Bi-Han was lying about letting his father die. The loss still possibly affected him and could be the reason behind his cold nature. He probably just told Kuai Liang this to soften the blow for his betrayal to get his brother to hate him and also he was embarrassed that he was too weak to save their father.
Why would he want his brother to hate him if he wants him to join him
@@Deathmare235 Yeah good point.
Why bi han has ice power but kuai liang is not? Their father is a cryomancer so there is no reason for kuai to have scorpion power
@@johnsteve39I hear you there
@@johnsteve39 it seems that people can be born with different powers , in the end their ambitions, personality, role and name are what makes them , well them.
Considering Bi Han has Sektor's personality in this time around, I can actually see that happening.
Brothers scale tall wall
Smoke: Cute, watch this 1:16
I feel a lot of people have been wondering about why Bi-han turned evil and as a psychology student and armchair psychologist I feel the need to shed some light on why this happened
I do believe that the story is very well written just because of the fact that it captures the small moments that you really should pay attention to.
But I really missed the human side of it, as I often do ngl😂

Bro Bi Han is so badass. From his rare brutal fighting style to his voice and just the way he looks just makes me respect him even after the betrayal

This is the Scorpion/Sub-Zero story Tobias/Boon wanted to use in the original MK before abandoning the idea.
I was really hoping Bi Han would be a good guy this time round. D:
It would have been much better writing if they'd lost on purpose to get Shang Tsung to explain his plan.
It also would have been better writing not to just make Bi-Han evil for no actual reason.
I think they did loose on purpose but Bi Han decided to flip the script
Based off other games that I remember this didn’t see out of character for bi han. He kept saying he wanted the clan to be bigger
idk, it was pretty obvious since the beginning that Bi Han was power hungry, so it'd make sense that he'd betray liu kang for a chance at gaining more power

Actually, Sub Zero is still Lin Kuei but he made Lin Kuei into an Evil Organization.
Now we shall face the Noob
