@davidcb4946 true but with a bit of context.. his 5th match of this Grand Slam (having to qualify), took out a seed in the opening round and went down fighting in 5 against a solid experience professional. Carlos Alcaraz played his first major in Australia 2021 and achieved the same result, qualified and lost in round 2. Federer played his first in Australia in 1999 and didn't even get through the first round of qualifying.
As an Italian, I supported Sonego or else I'd rooted for Joao. Hopefully the media will stop over hyping the kid and let him grow gradually. He's got the talent, he now needs experience. "Se son rose, fioriranno" says an old adage.
What? The dream kid? The special One? The next big thing? The man? Odds 1.15 Fonseca, 4.00 Sonego Like Sonego was coming from the ITF against a 18 years old guy that had everything to prove. Ridicolous. Let's go Sonego well done 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
@tijgertjekonijnwordopgegeten So? Maroszan smoked Alcaraz 2 years ago, made him look extra easy. But he still has everything to prove, far from a big status, and he didn't mantain that level sadly.
That's what I was thinking odds 5. I was thinking the experience is gonna do something in this match. 3 to 5 sets...yet I did not bet, I bet a lot of money on Etcheverry, that took out of all my strength
It´s called baby steps. He put up a great fight. You need to be blind not to see the potential. It sort of reminds me of Sinner situation few years back. Sonego should never be underestimated either.
Sonego playing incredible right now. I watched his insane lob return against Wawrinka. Making that shot alone must have sent his confidence stratospheric. Usually he’s too ambitious with his shots but now they’re all landing in. So intensely competitive and passionate about his sport. Well done to him!
Fonseca has what it takes, he just needs to go through some defeats to learn how to improve and what to fix. Like all of us. Lorenzo was simply on fire!
I don't like Sonego's strokes, and I don't like his grunting, but my god, the guy is a certified upset machine and I can't help but love him for that. If the world seems to want a particular player to beat him, you can bet on him to make sure it doesn't happen. One of the game's best fighters at the moment.
I regret not betting a few bucks on Sonego when he was done dirty by betting sites. I think people expected Fonseca to blow him off the court but they seem to forget how gritty Sonego is and how tough of an opponent when he's playing well. Fonseca is a big talent no doubt but i think people need to manage their expectations. He is currently outside the top 100 and had to qualify to get into the main draw, he is not an established name. I have no doubt that he will manage some big things this year but at the moment placing him in the same group as Sinner and Alcaraz is insane
Dove sono quelli che era già ai livelli di Sinner alcaraz e forse superiore? Ha perso con Berrettini e Sonego...un ottimo giocatore ma siamo lontani da quei livelli
It's shame for Fonseca, but his days are incoming, Sonego played one of his best matches in career and win this deservedly. If he plays like this against Marozsan he will be the favourite for sure.
Mmmm no he is not. If we are talking about being tecnically gifted musetti takes the spot for sure (or fognini if he feels like it). In terms of groundstroke tecnique from the baseline it's Sinner no questions asked. If we are talking netplay and serve it is berrettini for sure. Sonego is good all round but it is not his tecnique that makes him strong it is his resilience and physicality mixed with a decent tecnique
Not even close, Sonego has honestly got some of the worst technique in the top 100, although he has got good hands. This is nothing bad against Sonego, as it's a testament to his fighting spirit and tennis IQ that he's had a successful career despite his (relatively) poor technique
@@francescosaveriorotondi5975 Mussetti has a good backhand, but I would not even say it's technically better than Sinner's the rest of his game is technically inferior to Sinner except maybe volleys. I just love how the tennis world hyped up a tennis player after a victory against Rublev one of the most inconsistent players to be in the top 10. Sure this guy is a teen but so was the teens that come before and after him. For all we know he could end up just like Shapovalov
See? Lorenzo is that kind of player, he loves the big time/show time matches. He's not afraid of challenges 😅 it's a good learning experience for Fonseca nonetheless. Very certain we'll be seeing more of him in the near future 😁

The kid (Fonseca) is incredible. Amazing groundstrokes, power, footwork. If he keeps this up he will be lifting a grand slam trophy before long. Relax with the pressure of making him part of the new big 3. Probably the same people who crowned Rune one of the new big 3 😂😂😂 So fun to watch him play.
honestly I was expecting Fonseca to lose with Sonego. He comes from an incredible stretch of tournaments (won Next Gen well into December + Won Canberra + Defeated Rublev), he's young, cannot play with such intensity for so long (he will be in the top 10 within a couple of years, though). On the other hand, if Sonego plays consistently, he's easily at a top 30 level.
That Fonseca narrative was so ridiculous same for draper for that matter. Rublev literally lost 5+ to members of top 90 at the late portion of last year now less than 2 months in 2025 we act like he is nearly untouchable and beating him is a groundbreaking achievement. So yeah defeating rublev hurkacz ruud fritz has literally ghe same value as defeating berretini.
