Idk i've always used a cage and I feel like once your in the play and focused on the puck or playing defence or whatever you don't even see the cage in front of you. I also block a lot of shots and with a cage I don't have to worry about a puck knocking out my jibs
That’s what I was about to say. I’ve used a cage for about 12 years since I started hockey and I was thinking about it and I don’t even notice the cage. I used a fishbowl for a few games last year and I had to switch back because it would just fog up and at one point I took a shot to the face and the fishbowl just cracked.
I play goalie so I have to use the cage, and when I’m playing there’s not really any room to be distracted. But sometimes it does get a little annoying
2 things not mentioned: the more expensive the cage, the thinner the bars get. It's just as protective, but you get better visibility. There is one other option, the hybrid cage. It's a visor in the top half and a cage in the bottom half. Visibility wise, it only beats out the cage, but it's still pretty good, you might lose some vision at your feet, but that's it. It'll give you slighty better protection compared to a fishbowl, although not much more and it'll fog about as much as a visor. It's also kinda ugly lol
I’ve seen those hybrid one and honestly I like the idea but like you said they look kinda ugly. I bet if they made the cage part black it would look a little better.

I use a hybrid. I agree that they are ugly, but I think it is the best of both worlds. It doesn’t fog when on the ice but it does in the bench. Hockey spit does the trick though.
Hockey Ninja makes a pretty solid hybrid that isn't ugly in my opinion. I wear it for ice hockey. It's really nice but yea it does fog up despite using anti fog treatment. I probably will get a light cage and alternate
I have used the fish bowl for the past couple of years, and I have been thinking about trying the cage again because of the fog. I constantly have to worry about cleaning it, and I have spent a ton of time trying to find good cleaners. But, they all have their pros and cons. So, I think it all just matters how you look at it
I’ve used many sprays the don’t really work. I now use body wash I bring with me to shower. Rub a bit all around the inside then wipe it off with a good Costco microfibre cloth. Old spice always works fine.
I think that the cage is the best option because when you are focusing on the game you don’t even notice it and the fish bowl it depends on the rink but in some rinks it gets so foggy you can barely see I have never tried the visor
I've always been a fishbowl guy and won't ever change, but my twins have used both a cage and a fishbowl throughout the years. One actually went back to the cage for breathability and says the vision isn't so bad even after experiencing the clear visor effect. The other guy just won't switch back to a cage. I only want him to because there's zero maintenance with a cage. With his visor, I have to clean it up every week, and not everything comes off either as mentioned in the video. Nasher, thanks for mentioning the focus issue with the cage, since that's something he has to deal with daily as it is. Good reason to keep him in a fishbowl.
I do have to paoint out (not sure if anyone else has) but the fish bowl did have a metal cage version at the bottom (i had one about 27yr ago). Oh and if you apply a good few amounts of shower gel (yes shower get) to the visor, plus some anti fog, you are good for hours worth of playing! just make sure you rub it in all over the visor (front,sides,top rim, inside, plus the bars (yes the bars,trust me it all adds up) then you'll be good to go. personal preference i still prefer to wear just the eye visor,least protective but it's what i prefer to wear
Last year I picked up a hybrid zero plus from Boulder Hockey Shields. It looks a little strange, but works the best. The Baurer Hybrid has too big of plexi area and it still fogs. The zero plus has zero fogging. My visor didn't fog, but I took a couple sticks to the chin, so switched it up.
Started with the fishbowl over ten years ago. Fog and sweat definitely an issue. Quickly moved to visor and I can’t see myself switching. I did get my chin split by a stick once. Fortunately no teeth were harmed. I wore the cage for 1 game until stitches healed but I just prefer the visibility and less restricted head movements of the visor. I typically will tilt my head down completely in a shot lane at the moment I know it’s coming and if I’m in front of the net I’m timing my Defensemens shot so I can get my face turned around if I can’t tip it. It’s a risk but I think guys just go with what they’re comfortable with.
Hey Nasher, don’t know if your going to see this I play with a fishbowl and one thing I found rly useful was I bought these anti fog regular glasses wipes and the glasses cleaner towel thingy and just use the wipe on the inside outside then kinda shine it with the glasses towel and then it doesn’t fog up at all and when then wipe wears off you just use another one if you’d like the exact company just ask lol and I can check but I would definitely recommend it from cvs (kinda convenience store) don’t know what you would have
Major respect for the last point you made. It's really the elephant in the room that the only reason to use a visor over the other options is the look. And if you're into that, that's cool, but we can't be chirping dudes for just wanting to be as safe as possible

Tried the fish bowl in Ice hockey and it fogged up all the time, granted this was like 25 years ago so technology prolly changed. Used a cage from there and for me it dosent bother me, I dont even notice it. Ill also add in my last game taking a face off the puck came right back up to my face and woulda prolly popped a few teeth out if I didnt have the cage. Pretty much from all the face hits ive taken id look like Frankenstein if I had no mask or a visor. Ill never take the cage off.
ive always used a cage and im 1 of like 5 people that don't have a fishbowl but tbh i thought about getting one but fog would make me so mad like if it fogged up on a breakaway so im staying with the cage

Cage all the way. I'm really surprised professional players aren't pushing to have compulsory cages introduced, it would help them a lot of with facial injuries.
I wear a cage, and believe that over time, your brain ignores the cage and it essentially becomes invisible. I can appreciate that if one switches between cage and visor, the cage will be annoyingly visible!

I had a fishbowl for years and went back to a cage. The only time I noticed the cage was the first few games inbetween shifts, once I hopped the wall I didn't know it was there. Sweat on the inside of the visor or bowl drives me nuts.

Great vid!! Funny enough, it was only when I became a RUclipsr full-time that I realized the need to protect my face so I could continue sitting in front of the camera with all my teeth and general appearance in tact. After using a visor for several years I tried out multiple cages and a fishbowl and I found the best was the bauer re-akt cages with the super thin and light weight matte-silver bars. My biggest issue with the fish bowl, fog-aside, was that I could not stop losing the puck in my feet... there was a huge blind spot down low where I had no peripheral vision and that was enough to make me give up on the bowl and go with the cage permanently. Fast-forward a couple years and I don't notice the cage anymore while I'm playing. Another thing that's nice about having a cage is that I always have 2 hands on my stick because I'm not using one hand to cover the lower half of my face any more when defending lol. Recently picked up a fishbowl myself and I'm very pleased with it. I've never understood the fogging issue, as I knew it existed, I went to the first game without any anti fog or conditioner treatment just to see how bad it gets. Well, it really wasn't bad at all, it fogged up twice on the bench when i was bent tying my skates or something, once i jump on the ice the fog goes away in a few seconds, and then on the next change, if I didn't specifically breathe on the upper portion of the visor, it honestly didn't fog up at all. So it's 100% the best choice for me, full protection and visibility, best of both worlds.
My rule has always been if everyone is wearing a visor then wear a visor. If it’s mixed you gotta go cage. Too many people get reckless when they have that facial protection.

Yeah, I agree. I wore a visor in mens league until my buddy, who also wears a visor, had his nose broken. I really preferred the visor but I would rather have my face intact.

Grew up w/ a cage, like every kid. I actually went from a shield to a cage in the 70s when they came out. Took a shot to the face on the first day that would've knocked out a few teeth the day before. Always hated the visibility of the cage. The fishbowl was great for about a season. Eventually, it fogged super bad and no treatment seemed to help. And cleaning it on the bench was a pain. You have to unsnap and flip it up to get a finger or a cloth up under it. It is not a quick wipe. I have gone back to the shield. But I'm 55 and have had my teeth long enough.
I just have to say, watching your videos has inspired me to get my legs back in shape to play in the beer leagues next year. It's been over 10 years since I've played in a league and I've just been itching to get back in the game. I've been considering getting the fishbowl... it just seems like the way to go. I always played with a cage before but I too think I will be experimenting with the fishbowl! Cheers!

For beer league hockey, I rock the Bauer Profile 2 cage with the I2 color scheme. Black on the outside to reduce glare with white on the inside so the puck stands out better.
I grew up playing with a cage, but I have been using a visor for the past four years and 2 months ago, I took a shot in the face: 6 broken teeth, stiches in both my lips. That's going to cost me 24K$ and being a student, I have no insurance. So let me tell you something, the visor is not worth it because we are not professional players who have access to a medical team and good teeth insurance. Great video Nasher keep up the good work!
I use a hybrid from Hockey Ninja that has a bit of cage on the forehead, and the nose down, with a visor in between. It never fogs up, is way lighter than a fishbowl and you can replace just the visor part fairly inexpensively.
I have used a CCM helmet and fishbowl combo. I skated with buddies for 5 hours and didn't have any fogging issues at all. Just take care of the "glass" with a jumbo microfiber towel and a helmet bag. Love the video man.
a white cage or a oreo cage is the best imo the white blends in with the ice the comfort is great especially if u loosen the straps and ur not gonna pull a pavelski and take a puck to the face which happens frequently in higher leagues + it doesnt fog even visors fog when its cold from my experience
Ditto on the white cages for me. As a goaltender I always make sure I have a powder coated white cage. They used to be the standard and now everyone has stainless/chrome
Dude bought a fishbowl to use and decided to make a vid saying why it’s the best… I never notice a cage enough for it to have an effect on my vision. Just use what works best for you
Well I’m a player, and a ref, so I use a cage, and the visor. I personally didn’t like the fish bowls because I thought they looked kinda ugly. I just learned to focus on the ice instead of the cage. I absolutely love my visor. It’s amazing how different it is going from my cage when playing to plopping on my visor to drop the puck. I think hockey is a great sport that is gaining more and more younger players like kids. It’s truly astonishing how this sport has changed throughout the years, and I hope it keeps going in the future.

I do the same, and I'd probably be able to "see through" the cage if I wasn't switching back and forth so much. As it is, my first shift every game is spent readjusting, and I constantly bop myself on the cage trying to itch my nose or wipe off sweat during faceoffs
I use the fish bowl because I have adhd so I get distracted easily and I think the cage is distracting so I use the fish bowl and it’s strong because I was in training and took a slap shot right into the post and right I’m my face and i didn’t get hurt
Great video! If you’re having trouble with fog try blue Dawn dish soap before any spray. Something my coach taught me and I literally haven’t had fogging trouble ever since.
I'm using the fish bowl. I know that you are sponsored by bauer. I've used both bauer and ccm and i have my ccm longer and chin guard is a lot nicer but it's overall good stuf
Never tried this, but I've heard that if you have a cage, you can paint it white and it helps blend the bars in with the ice to take your focus away from it if you're having issues. I've used all three and ended up keeping the shield after taking a stick in the face :D
i ended up picking up a white cage just because it was the only thing available. ive used it for a practice now and i definitely noticed a difference with the white cage. helped out a good bit
Personally I use the cage with the visor. I play most pick up or beer league games. I had a fishbowl but a bit of fogging was always an issue. The cage/visor combo was much better. Hardly any fogging with the security of a steel cage.
The one thing I’ve got against of a fishbowl is once you start sweating it’ll fog up the glass, especially if your on an odr, and that’s my number one problem with that because I have to wear glasses.
Used a hybrid Shield/cage in high school hockey, found it a pain to keep from fogging, and you had to take care not to scratch it. Switched to a cage and have used one ever since. I normally wear glasses off ice so I guess maybe I'm used to seeing a frame in my peripheral vision, so the cage doesn't bother me one bit. Love the protection.
So I just switched from the full shield to the cage. The shield was always great for about the 1st half of the game, but then would get insanely foggy. I really noticed the fog when I would lift my helmet up to either wipe sweat off my face or maybe get a clear shot with my water bottle. The first time I would push my helmet up, that shield would not stay clear. I just got a white cage and I like it a lot . It’s also a lot cooler
Many have commented that once they get into the game they don’t notice the cage anymore but that isn’t the same as saying it doesn’t affect your vision. Because it absolutely does. If you want to test it, after playing a game with the cage on for the whole game, just as you’re leaving the ice after the game, take your helmet off and look around the ice. You’ll be amazed at what you didn’t notice. My question between cage and fishbowl is weight. I’m currently using the cage and considering switching, I just don’t want to feel like my helmet is front heavy any more than it already is with the cage.
Visor for stick n puck/shinny. Cage/bubble for practice/games. There is a noticeable difference in airflow between cage/bubble but I didn't mind. What is annoying is having to talk louder and scratches building up with a bubble. I didn't experience any fogging with a CV1.
I‘m a big cage fan. Modern cages with oblong wires don‘t interfere with visibility too much. I‘ve had too many friends lose teeth with a visor. I have to go to work in the morning, so I don‘t need the risk. I found it hard to breathe with the shield. Got way too hot. Even with defogger, the thing still fogged up. Hated it.
I personally like fish bowl more because of the vision and you can see a little better. I had a hard time with the cage, and I switched to fish bowl, and never looked back!
I just started playing roller hockey this year at 48 lol. I use a cage as it came with my helmet. It bothered me my first couple shifts but now I don’t see it at all. My one complaint is that it’s a little heavy and pulls my helmet down sometimes. If the fishbowl is lighter I would definitely try it out. I’ve had helmets smash me in the face almost every game so some kind of protection is a must, I don’t love my dentists that much!
I’m with visor and fishbowl. Fishbowl: For hockey only, preferred to have clear vision with the helmet due to glasses. Visor: Casual skating, stick and puck, and for my skate instructor job. Mainly to protect my glasses so I’m able to breathe freely without its fog.
I used to wear a cage for years in beer league. I tried going to a visor and it was great - could see and breathe 100% better - til I went down to block a shot. Yep, like you said - you never know what you're gonna get. It hit my jaw, and long story short and some fairly major dental work later, I went to the fishbowl. I've used that for years and love it. The best of both worlds. Mine mainly fogs up when I go to the bench. On the ice, the airflow seems to keep it clear. They make plenty of anti-fog products for lenses and shields, and they work good. My only issue is sweat trickles from my head down the inside of the visor part; that's mildly annoying. Overall, though, from wearing the cage to nothing and back over the years, the fishbowl is the best option.
Cage for me. I found that the fog on the bubble wasn't terrible as long as I was skating, so as long as I didn't stop and stand on the blueline for any amount of time.... :D
Just got clipped on a follow through shot this past week. 14 years on mens league and a couple junior years, caught up to me. Lucky I didnt swallow my tooth. Unsure but might be going back to the cage at 37 years old
Idk i've always used a cage and I feel like once your in the play and focused on the puck or playing defence or whatever you don't even see the cage in front of you. I also block a lot of shots and with a cage I don't have to worry about a puck knocking out my jibs
That’s what I was about to say. I’ve used a cage for about 12 years since I started hockey and I was thinking about it and I don’t even notice the cage. I used a fishbowl for a few games last year and I had to switch back because it would just fog up and at one point I took a shot to the face and the fishbowl just cracked.

2 things not mentioned: the more expensive the cage, the thinner the bars get. It's just as protective, but you get better visibility. There is one other option, the hybrid cage. It's a visor in the top half and a cage in the bottom half. Visibility wise, it only beats out the cage, but it's still pretty good, you might lose some vision at your feet, but that's it. It'll give you slighty better protection compared to a fishbowl, although not much more and it'll fog about as much as a visor. It's also kinda ugly lol

I use a hybrid. I agree that they are ugly, but I think it is the best of both worlds. It doesn’t fog when on the ice but it does in the bench. Hockey spit does the trick though.
Hockey Ninja makes a pretty solid hybrid that isn't ugly in my opinion. I wear it for ice hockey. It's really nice but yea it does fog up despite using anti fog treatment. I probably will get a light cage and alternate

I have used the fish bowl for the past couple of years, and I have been thinking about trying the cage again because of the fog. I constantly have to worry about cleaning it, and I have spent a ton of time trying to find good cleaners. But, they all have their pros and cons. So, I think it all just matters how you look at it

I’ve used many sprays the don’t really work. I now use body wash I bring with me to shower. Rub a bit all around the inside then wipe it off with a good Costco microfibre cloth. Old spice always works fine.
I think that the cage is the best option because when you are focusing on the game you don’t even notice it and the fish bowl it depends on the rink but in some rinks it gets so foggy you can barely see I have never tried the visor
I've always been a fishbowl guy and won't ever change, but my twins have used both a cage and a fishbowl throughout the years. One actually went back to the cage for breathability and says the vision isn't so bad even after experiencing the clear visor effect. The other guy just won't switch back to a cage. I only want him to because there's zero maintenance with a cage. With his visor, I have to clean it up every week, and not everything comes off either as mentioned in the video. Nasher, thanks for mentioning the focus issue with the cage, since that's something he has to deal with daily as it is. Good reason to keep him in a fishbowl.
I do have to paoint out (not sure if anyone else has) but the fish bowl did have a metal cage version at the bottom (i had one about 27yr ago). Oh and if you apply a good few amounts of shower gel (yes shower get) to the visor, plus some anti fog, you are good for hours worth of playing! just make sure you rub it in all over the visor (front,sides,top rim, inside, plus the bars (yes the bars,trust me it all adds up) then you'll be good to go. personal preference i still prefer to wear just the eye visor,least protective but it's what i prefer to wear
Last year I picked up a hybrid zero plus from Boulder Hockey Shields. It looks a little strange, but works the best. The Baurer Hybrid has too big of plexi area and it still fogs. The zero plus has zero fogging. My visor didn't fog, but I took a couple sticks to the chin, so switched it up.

Started with the fishbowl over ten years ago. Fog and sweat definitely an issue. Quickly moved to visor and I can’t see myself switching. I did get my chin split by a stick once. Fortunately no teeth were harmed. I wore the cage for 1 game until stitches healed but I just prefer the visibility and less restricted head movements of the visor. I typically will tilt my head down completely in a shot lane at the moment I know it’s coming and if I’m in front of the net I’m timing my Defensemens shot so I can get my face turned around if I can’t tip it. It’s a risk but I think guys just go with what they’re comfortable with.
You forgot the last option. No visor/cage. Just a bucket. 100% visibility and obviously accept the risk and be vigilant.
When I started using a cage when I first started about 2 years later I started using a fishbowl and the fishbowl is amazing
Hey Nasher, don’t know if your going to see this I play with a fishbowl and one thing I found rly useful was I bought these anti fog regular glasses wipes and the glasses cleaner towel thingy and just use the wipe on the inside outside then kinda shine it with the glasses towel and then it doesn’t fog up at all and when then wipe wears off you just use another one if you’d like the exact company just ask lol and I can check but I would definitely recommend it from cvs (kinda convenience store) don’t know what you would have
Major respect for the last point you made. It's really the elephant in the room that the only reason to use a visor over the other options is the look. And if you're into that, that's cool, but we can't be chirping dudes for just wanting to be as safe as possible

Tried the fish bowl in Ice hockey and it fogged up all the time, granted this was like 25 years ago so technology prolly changed. Used a cage from there and for me it dosent bother me, I dont even notice it. Ill also add in my last game taking a face off the puck came right back up to my face and woulda prolly popped a few teeth out if I didnt have the cage. Pretty much from all the face hits ive taken id look like Frankenstein if I had no mask or a visor. Ill never take the cage off.

Fishbowl is the safest. It just fogs a lot. I wish they would figure a way to fix that.

I wear a cage, and believe that over time, your brain ignores the cage and it essentially becomes invisible. I can appreciate that if one switches between cage and visor, the cage will be annoyingly visible!

I had a fishbowl for years and went back to a cage. The only time I noticed the cage was the first few games inbetween shifts, once I hopped the wall I didn't know it was there. Sweat on the inside of the visor or bowl drives me nuts.

The bars on my cage aren’t round but oval and the inside are painted white. Don’t notice them at all.
Great vid!! Funny enough, it was only when I became a RUclipsr full-time that I realized the need to protect my face so I could continue sitting in front of the camera with all my teeth and general appearance in tact. After using a visor for several years I tried out multiple cages and a fishbowl and I found the best was the bauer re-akt cages with the super thin and light weight matte-silver bars. My biggest issue with the fish bowl, fog-aside, was that I could not stop losing the puck in my feet... there was a huge blind spot down low where I had no peripheral vision and that was enough to make me give up on the bowl and go with the cage permanently. Fast-forward a couple years and I don't notice the cage anymore while I'm playing. Another thing that's nice about having a cage is that I always have 2 hands on my stick because I'm not using one hand to cover the lower half of my face any more when defending lol. Recently picked up a fishbowl myself and I'm very pleased with it. I've never understood the fogging issue, as I knew it existed, I went to the first game without any anti fog or conditioner treatment just to see how bad it gets. Well, it really wasn't bad at all, it fogged up twice on the bench when i was bent tying my skates or something, once i jump on the ice the fog goes away in a few seconds, and then on the next change, if I didn't specifically breathe on the upper portion of the visor, it honestly didn't fog up at all. So it's 100% the best choice for me, full protection and visibility, best of both worlds.

My rule has always been if everyone is wearing a visor then wear a visor. If it’s mixed you gotta go cage. Too many people get reckless when they have that facial protection.

Grew up w/ a cage, like every kid. I actually went from a shield to a cage in the 70s when they came out. Took a shot to the face on the first day that would've knocked out a few teeth the day before. Always hated the visibility of the cage. The fishbowl was great for about a season. Eventually, it fogged super bad and no treatment seemed to help. And cleaning it on the bench was a pain. You have to unsnap and flip it up to get a finger or a cloth up under it. It is not a quick wipe. I have gone back to the shield. But I'm 55 and have had my teeth long enough.
I just have to say, watching your videos has inspired me to get my legs back in shape to play in the beer leagues next year. It's been over 10 years since I've played in a league and I've just been itching to get back in the game. I've been considering getting the fishbowl... it just seems like the way to go. I always played with a cage before but I too think I will be experimenting with the fishbowl! Cheers!

My personal opinion is the fish bowl (shield) since you legit can’t get hurt.
My teammate just had his bubble shatter on him last weekend on a hit. Had to get his front teeth replaced

For beer league hockey, I rock the Bauer Profile 2 cage with the I2 color scheme. Black on the outside to reduce glare with white on the inside so the puck stands out better.
I grew up playing with a cage, but I have been using a visor for the past four years and 2 months ago, I took a shot in the face: 6 broken teeth, stiches in both my lips. That's going to cost me 24K$ and being a student, I have no insurance. So let me tell you something, the visor is not worth it because we are not professional players who have access to a medical team and good teeth insurance. Great video Nasher keep up the good work!
Honestly, I prefer the fishbowl. For me it’s never got fogged up and I have great vision on the ice. I try to keep my breath aiming down.
The biggest downside of the fish bowl is all the chirps you're gonna receive for wearing it
I use a hybrid from Hockey Ninja that has a bit of cage on the forehead, and the nose down, with a visor in between. It never fogs up, is way lighter than a fishbowl and you can replace just the visor part fairly inexpensively.
We need more videos like this even just the og shooting pucks in the driveway I miss them
I have used a CCM helmet and fishbowl combo. I skated with buddies for 5 hours and didn't have any fogging issues at all. Just take care of the "glass" with a jumbo microfiber towel and a helmet bag. Love the video man.
a white cage or a oreo cage is the best imo the white blends in with the ice the comfort is great especially if u loosen the straps and ur not gonna pull a pavelski and take a puck to the face which happens frequently in higher leagues + it doesnt fog even visors fog when its cold from my experience
Ditto on the white cages for me. As a goaltender I always make sure I have a powder coated white cage. They used to be the standard and now everyone has stainless/chrome

Dude bought a fishbowl to use and decided to make a vid saying why it’s the best… I never notice a cage enough for it to have an effect on my vision. Just use what works best for you

Well I’m a player, and a ref, so I use a cage, and the visor. I personally didn’t like the fish bowls because I thought they looked kinda ugly. I just learned to focus on the ice instead of the cage. I absolutely love my visor. It’s amazing how different it is going from my cage when playing to plopping on my visor to drop the puck. I think hockey is a great sport that is gaining more and more younger players like kids. It’s truly astonishing how this sport has changed throughout the years, and I hope it keeps going in the future.

I do the same, and I'd probably be able to "see through" the cage if I wasn't switching back and forth so much. As it is, my first shift every game is spent readjusting, and I constantly bop myself on the cage trying to itch my nose or wipe off sweat during faceoffs

I think they look good. And honestly taking a puck to the face or loosing a tooth is a lot uglier than the helmet.
I use the fish bowl because I have adhd so I get distracted easily and I think the cage is distracting so I use the fish bowl and it’s strong because I was in training and took a slap shot right into the post and right I’m my face and i didn’t get hurt

I been rocken the cage sines I was five, but I changed to the fish bowl about a year and a half ago. Me I like the fish bowl better.
Great video! If you’re having trouble with fog try blue Dawn dish soap before any spray. Something my coach taught me and I literally haven’t had fogging trouble ever since.
Unless your getting paid to play use the Cage.

I'm using the fish bowl. I know that you are sponsored by bauer. I've used both bauer and ccm and i have my ccm longer and chin guard is a lot nicer but it's overall good stuf
Never tried this, but I've heard that if you have a cage, you can paint it white and it helps blend the bars in with the ice to take your focus away from it if you're having issues. I've used all three and ended up keeping the shield after taking a stick in the face :D
i ended up picking up a white cage just because it was the only thing available. ive used it for a practice now and i definitely noticed a difference with the white cage. helped out a good bit
Personally I use the cage with the visor. I play most pick up or beer league games. I had a fishbowl but a bit of fogging was always an issue. The cage/visor combo was much better. Hardly any fogging with the security of a steel cage.
The one thing I’ve got against of a fishbowl is once you start sweating it’ll fog up the glass, especially if your on an odr, and that’s my number one problem with that because I have to wear glasses.
Used a hybrid Shield/cage in high school hockey, found it a pain to keep from fogging, and you had to take care not to scratch it. Switched to a cage and have used one ever since. I normally wear glasses off ice so I guess maybe I'm used to seeing a frame in my peripheral vision, so the cage doesn't bother me one bit. Love the protection.

Ive used all 3 and the fish bowl was by far the wort option as it constantly fogged up and was very hard to ceep clean and free of scratches

So I just switched from the full shield to the cage. The shield was always great for about the 1st half of the game, but then would get insanely foggy. I really noticed the fog when I would lift my helmet up to either wipe sweat off my face or maybe get a clear shot with my water bottle. The first time I would push my helmet up, that shield would not stay clear. I just got a white cage and I like it a lot . It’s also a lot cooler
Many have commented that once they get into the game they don’t notice the cage anymore but that isn’t the same as saying it doesn’t affect your vision. Because it absolutely does. If you want to test it, after playing a game with the cage on for the whole game, just as you’re leaving the ice after the game, take your helmet off and look around the ice. You’ll be amazed at what you didn’t notice. My question between cage and fishbowl is weight. I’m currently using the cage and considering switching, I just don’t want to feel like my helmet is front heavy any more than it already is with the cage.

Visor for stick n puck/shinny. Cage/bubble for practice/games. There is a noticeable difference in airflow between cage/bubble but I didn't mind. What is annoying is having to talk louder and scratches building up with a bubble. I didn't experience any fogging with a CV1.
I would say the fishbowl is the most safe but fogs up a lot so that's my favorite.
Put a little shampoo on it and rub it in, works very well
I‘m a big cage fan. Modern cages with oblong wires don‘t interfere with visibility too much. I‘ve had too many friends lose teeth with a visor. I have to go to work in the morning, so I don‘t need the risk. I found it hard to breathe with the shield. Got way too hot. Even with defogger, the thing still fogged up. Hated it.

I personally like fish bowl more because of the vision and you can see a little better. I had a hard time with the cage, and I switched to fish bowl, and never looked back!

I just started playing roller hockey this year at 48 lol. I use a cage as it came with my helmet. It bothered me my first couple shifts but now I don’t see it at all.
My one complaint is that it’s a little heavy and pulls my helmet down sometimes. If the fishbowl is lighter I would definitely try it out.
I’ve had helmets smash me in the face almost every game so some kind of protection is a must, I don’t love my dentists that much!

Fishbowl: For hockey only, preferred to have clear vision with the helmet due to glasses.
Visor: Casual skating, stick and puck, and for my skate instructor job. Mainly to protect my glasses so I’m able to breathe freely without its fog.
I used to wear a cage for years in beer league. I tried going to a visor and it was great - could see and breathe 100% better - til I went down to block a shot. Yep, like you said - you never know what you're gonna get. It hit my jaw, and long story short and some fairly major dental work later, I went to the fishbowl. I've used that for years and love it. The best of both worlds. Mine mainly fogs up when I go to the bench. On the ice, the airflow seems to keep it clear. They make plenty of anti-fog products for lenses and shields, and they work good. My only issue is sweat trickles from my head down the inside of the visor part; that's mildly annoying. Overall, though, from wearing the cage to nothing and back over the years, the fishbowl is the best option.

Cage for me. I found that the fog on the bubble wasn't terrible as long as I was skating, so as long as I didn't stop and stand on the blueline for any amount of time.... :D
Just got clipped on a follow through shot this past week. 14 years on mens league and a couple junior years, caught up to me. Lucky I didnt swallow my tooth. Unsure but might be going back to the cage at 37 years old
