Restore an Old Chisel Using Only Sandpaper

- In this video I use the Veritas Sharpening System to completely restore an old chisel and block plain with just sandpaper. I used 4 different grits of sandpaper (150, 220, 1000, and 2000) and used spray adhesive to stick them to a marble tile. The results were INCREDIBLE! There are super expensive sharpening stones out there but for my purposes, this works great. I used to be embarrassed by my chisels and block plane but I will no longer live with those insecurities thanks to this sharpening method. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy!

I might drop a few tools off for your next video, nice work!
Thanks, come on by!
What tools are you going to drop off. Sorry nosey.
Great tip! Can’t believe how well those turned out. Like new...
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For posting this video. I was going to attempt using my Dremel to sharpen my chisels, but was hesitant due to flying metal pieces. So was searching for a video that skipped potential eye damage and could be done quickly.
This not only worked with no guide, like the one you are using. I'm now confident I can buy a guide, and not waste my money.
No fuss no muss. Even had spray glue. Cool thanks Again 😊
Dude that’s awesome to hear!! So glad it helped!
@@RLLWoodworks Helping right now actually. Getting through this project way faster then yesterday.
Great video. Might invest in a honing guide
We all need our sharpie tools😁 So now keeping them sharp won't take near as long. Keep up the good work👍 Stay safe. -Mike
Thank you so much Mike!
All I have to say thank you Lord for bringing you guys to our life You help us a lot May God bless you guys
Thank you for the kind words!
Been thinking about repairing my Chisels and I may even try to restore some of my Grandfather’s old hand planes. I’ve watched a lot of videos on this but yours was easier to understand. Most of them go into details that are way beyond my ability!
Thanks for that! Yeah to me, this is one of those things that one could go extreme to get the best possible results. Or, go about 50% and still get really good results. For my needs right now, I don't need the worlds sharpest chisel so this method has been great.
Thank you very much for your response
You’re very welcome!
Wow they turned out awesome. Who would’ve thought. 👀
Thank you!! It’s funny I was just using this chisel and thought it was due for a tune up. Got several good months out of it using this method.
@@RLLWoodworks that’s brilliant. I started my new job a few weeks ago as a carpenter/door fitter and my chisel set is due a nice sharpen so was looking around. And found your video. I wouldn’t have thought for a second sand paper would’ve been durable enough to actually provide some good results. :)
That’s awesome man!! I’ve been really happy with this method so far. Good luck with the new gig!
Excellent!
Thanks so much for watching! Hope it was helpful. It’s about time for me to do mine again.

Nice work! It shows you get what you pay for.

Get 80 grit psa roll make a wood block to insert the blade into and sand with big ol 4 foot strokes that should make things way faster.

50 bucks for this little piece of crap? Sounds like you got ripped off! And I hate to see when somebody is not taking care of his chisels!
yeah and there should be some grit between the 220 and 1000
