  • In this video I use the Veritas Sharpening System to completely restore an old chisel and block plain with just sandpaper. I used 4 different grits of sandpaper (150, 220, 1000, and 2000) and used spray adhesive to stick them to a marble tile. The results were INCREDIBLE! There are super expensive sharpening stones out there but for my purposes, this works great. I used to be embarrassed by my chisels and block plane but I will no longer live with those insecurities thanks to this sharpening method. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy!

They don't appear to sell this version anymore but here is a more expensive option: amzn.to/2Q3eG5c

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For posting this video. I was going to attempt using my Dremel to sharpen my chisels, but was hesitant due to flying metal pieces. So was searching for a video that skipped potential eye damage and could be done quickly.
This not only worked with no guide, like the one you are using. I'm now confident I can buy a guide, and not waste my money.
No fuss no muss. Even had spray glue. Cool thanks Again 😊

Been thinking about repairing my Chisels and I may even try to restore some of my Grandfather’s old hand planes. I’ve watched a lot of videos on this but yours was easier to understand. Most of them go into details that are way beyond my ability!

Thanks for that! Yeah to me, this is one of those things that one could go extreme to get the best possible results. Or, go about 50% and still get really good results. For my needs right now, I don't need the worlds sharpest chisel so this method has been great.

Thank you!! It’s funny I was just using this chisel and thought it was due for a tune up. Got several good months out of it using this method.

@@RLLWoodworks that’s brilliant. I started my new job a few weeks ago as a carpenter/door fitter and my chisel set is due a nice sharpen so was looking around. And found your video. I wouldn’t have thought for a second sand paper would’ve been durable enough to actually provide some good results. :)
