Great job guys! A perfect video to end 2020 with. You know, the more of these I watch, the more I realise that making a truly screen accurate replica of KITT (or KARR) requires plenty of gaffer tape, numerous hammer blows to the bodywork and some dude disguised as a seat!
YESSSS I remember the USA promo watched Knight Rider faithfully after school for two hours!! Purposely got that homework done early so I could have five o clock free lol!!!
When K.A.R.R. was destroyed in K. I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R and we can see the flashing K.A.R.R. computer, since K.A.R.R. had not a body already, I thought that in a future episode Garth would use K.A.R.R. computer in Goliath.
In Spain those TV series (Knight Rider, Greatest American Hero, A-Team, Street Hawk...) were broadcasted every day in the week (monday to friday) in summers after lunch time. Kids we had summer holidays and could watch those wonderful shows everyday.

Nice work! Thanks a lot! Another funny thing at 26:00, when the Rev looks backward to see if Kitt and Michael are chasing him and Karr, you can actually see that it is a previous shot from when Michael was still on top of Karr (you can see Michael's leg through the rear windshield!). So that's two unwanted legs in one shot! The one that belongs to the cameraman and the one that belongs to "Michael" (or the stuntman).
The Karr robbery montage using a clip from Slammin Sammy's was easily noticeable back in the day, watched on a CRT television. It made no sense to me even then as a 10 year old kid. They just didn't care. Glad that you guys do. Great work, as usual. Thank you, and all the best for the New Year.
We had our New Year's bonfire and are now tucked up watching KARR. Not a bad way to see out the year! Thank you and all the best for 2021 from London. :)
In "Knight of the Drones" season 3, Devon tells Michael that he had a predecessor named Ken Franklin who was killed by the criminal C.J. Jackson, I also remember reading the fan theory that he was KARR's driver, his failure to save Franklin may have resulted in his shutdown, Devon also said that Wilton shut the FLAG project down out of guilt and didn't reactivate it until they found Michael, it's not inconceivable that Wilton arranged for Michael Long to get the brand new Trans-Am to prepare him.
43:15 you can also see how far back from center the front wheels are in the wheel arch, the steering geometry must have been a complete mess on that car
I’m pretty sure in the scene where the stunt car jumps over the jump car, it lands in a huge pile of cardboard boxes. That’s why the landing looks so weird and wobbly. The cardboard boxes thing is something Hollywood does a lot when jumping cars. The damage to the stunt car would actually have been pretty minimal that way (could be the reason for the twisted headlight cover, although that scene could also have been filmed earlier, before the jump was filmed) Also, kudos for using the Transformers insignia change sequence! : ) I'm sure if they had paid more attention to the voice directing, Peter Cullen could have made KARR sound much more menacing than was the case here in this episode.
35:31 I think they put a ramp on that point, so the car lands very soft and without any damage (to be reused), but they were too low and crashed. You also see in the "behind the scenes photos" at 48:10 a car with a very much scratched and destroyed frontbumper. Thats why they did not used the flivver car (how its spelled?) for that jump as they did in 41:19, because there was no ramp. Or they missed the ramp a bit and Kit got "derailed" on one side. Those ramp ar not closed in the middle, they are open, so a bit too much left or right ans the tire is "free of earth", no contact anymore. Mostly they use two ramp, one for take-off and one for landing, they also use these ramp at 41:59 for the landingshot. 41:36 This could be another crash, watch the left front wheel, it looks like its catching the ceiling of the truck, again, a jump that gone too low / slow. I cant imagine that this jump went well. And I guess there is also a ramp hidden behind the other van. I am sure the left back wheel of KITT catched the van very heavy, KITTs front went down very much because of that and hit the ramp very hard. Would make sense with those picture from behind the scenes at 48:10, the nose looks very broken at the bottom. 44:38 This giant dent could have happend in 23:53? I mean, in the pictures you could see they remove this rubbershell, so could the have changed the cars underneath that?
I think that too. If you look closely, when the stunt car breaks through the garage door, there is a shadow in the bottom right corner of the screen, but when the car lands, that shadow disappears.
A few observations in this episode. Listen to when Michael tells KITT to switch to police frequency. You only hear the end of the APB which says something like "last scene in the vicinity of 3 rings restaurant" with the address given. It mentions nothing about KARR or his description. For all Michael knew it was a random armed robbery that had nothing to do with KARR. Maybe some beginning police radio dialog was cut or something? Not sure how Michael would have known it was KARR. Also in that same scene, KITT says what might be the last use of the name Trans Am when he says "that other car is going to give Trans Am a terrible reputation." I know the official story is that Pontiac asked them to stop calling the car a Trans Am because people were going into dealers wanting to buy KITT, but maybe them saying Trans Am would get a terrible reputation due to KARR rubbed Pontiac the wrong way.
I remember them mentioning the trans am name on the pilot episode and the trust dont rust episode from that point forward they called the trans am describing it as just a black t top
A big thank you for explaining the scene when Tony yells at KARR _"...What are y'doin?'"_ as it made no sense in the way it played out in the episode (me thinking how would he know what KARR was about to do) but now there's a proper context it actually makes sense.
3:09 They don't appear on the 2004 DVD. Cuz like many other episodes throughout all 4 seasons, this shot was cropped on the DVD. Don't know if these shots were cropped to frame out damages from the film prints. And also possibly to frame out anything that weren't meant to be in shot like cameras, camera crew, camera mounts, boom mics, shadows, reflections, stunt double faces etc. On the Blu-ray, nearly all of of these shots appear uncropped.
One of my favorites! I wish they had used a different scanner color from the beginning for KARR. Thank you for all of the behind the scenes photos. Despite the goof-ups and sometimes cheesy storylines I'm so grateful Knight Rider is a part of my life forever! Looking forward to the next episode. Thanks Joe!
You can tell in the pictures David Hasselhoff and the crew were a family and they enjoyed making Knight Rider!! This showed in the ratings of Knight Rider!! Its just an amazing show!!
They really did miss a trick for a film, got one out there, while it was still strong and and the cast was all about, same goes for the A team. But they decided to wait years after it was pulled. I think that might have been a reason why knight rider 2000 failed, and the A team film not been that strong, as it didn't have the originals in it.
The unused dialog between kitt and karr would have been interesting to have seen. Also karr ejecting the loot to eliminate excess weight would have made a little more sense and then growing annoyed with Tony before ejecting him would also have been interesting as it would indi care that karr was starting to understand human behavior enough to become annoyed by Tony's behavior and would lead to karr's slightly more understanding humans better and being able to appeal to greed and such later on in kitt vs.karr.The pmd seat with the hole in the side will appear again in the final verdict when Michael is posing as the electric company worker.I was pondering if that had any connection to the seat suit but if you don't know then nobody does! Thanks for another gem-the 50 or so minutes did go by in a blink! Happy wishes to all in the new year!!!
You should’ve said...Michaels face was priceless when he discovered KARR and and KITT told Michael that car it could’ve been my twin it was exactly like me and then Michael told KITT that car wasn’t exactly you it tried to kill me? You totally ignore that...
If I recall, when Tony and Rev were at the fast food place, you could see the production crew in the cars reflection. I remember catching that even when I was a kid watching it for the first time lol.
Oh man I'm glad I found this channel! Knight Rider is one of my absolute FAVORITE shows. When I was a kid I was crazy for it, never missed an episode! That show made me fall in love with Firebirds and Bonnie!! 😁😁When I first got the blu-ray set I was going through the show and pausing and looking at all of the locations where they were filming and wishing and dreaming I could go back in time and be there. In one shot you can see an old Taco Bell! It's neat to see something similar here with a more in depth look at things. Really enjoyed it! Thank you!
I absolutely love your video uploads. When I was a kid KARR terrified me! I always remember when they discover him covered in sand in a later episode. That really creeped me out. It was like a kid friendly version of the Stephen King book/film Christine!
In that first segment when KARR starts talking, when he says “I’ve Checked My Data On Basic Human Desires” for a brief moment a small shadow appears on the right hand side 🤔
Thanks a lot again guys! With the exception of the hero car and the back up hero car, the Trans Ams they used really had a hard life. You wonder what would be left of them to destroy at the end of the show but obviously they added some new cars later on.
This is by far my favorite KR episode. I love dynamics between AI and humans, and I love interactions between robots even more. Plus I kinda relate to KARR on a level. He's a well written villain I believe. 6:53 I love this scene most of all because KITT, despite being a car looks worried, and it's the first time we ever see him display emotions sorta e.g. fear and later jealousy
I'm guessing the landing platform was their attempt to save the stunt car from any major damage caused by the landing. Since they chose not to jump the jump car.
Happy New Year!!! I sure enjoy these KR Directors Cut Videos. Please keep them coming. Trust Doesn't Rust is one of my favorite episodes. I had a huge crush on Patricia McPherson(Bonnie)
missed one of my favorite continuity errors. When you first get the close up with Bonnie in KARR you can pause and see Michael in the windshield as well as seeing his jacket and shirt on the roof BEFORE he jumped onto the car in sequence. I seem to remember you interviewing someone from the show in a past video who talked about the seat getting burned causing that hole in the upholstery.
Brilliant again Joe,loving these features... So the shot where KARR jumps KITT at the museum the stunt car lands on an elevated platform,my theory is that ,if you look closely ,there is no one in the drivers seat as it's KARR so as the stuntman is in the seat suit he couldn't land on the ground as it would be dangerous for him so to cushion the impact they raised a platform...
Michael McRae was also in the season 2 episode of Dukes Of Hazzard titled The Rustlers. There seems to be a lot of actors AND stunt screw who did both shows
Happy New Year guys! This one was worth the wait. Trust Doesn't Rust is my favorite season 1 episode. Nice to see it from the production point of view.
So far as the torn seat. Was there a plastic seatbelt guide that was torn off? When I first saw the tear that's what I thought it was . Maybe a passenger seat first?
Let's hope 2021 see's a Knight Rider rebirth and the planned movie goes into production and is a real homage to tos. Thanks for all you're hard work KRH and all the best for 2021.
Rebirth from who, from modern Hollywood? No thanks. The present day viewer's need for reboots, born all these cheap cash-grab, "reboots". These are responsible for Terminator 6, female ghostbusters and spiderman 8.
These vids are a real triviafest! - I've found myself playing this little game, trying to identify which KITT car has been used from shot to shot. My hit rate's pretty good now. :-D. Naturally like most fans, I've been looking forward to this one, which for me was arguably the most memorable episode of Season 1; I have flash memories of experiencing this episode for the first time during its first-run airing in the UK back in the day. The two consecutive observations regarding the damage to the KITT's interior at 30:07 & 30:50: I would suggest that's down to the Hoff climbing in and out of the car via the T-Top. The damage was probably inevitable if you think about it.
What always puzzled me is why the episode editor used the shot of KITT from slammin sammy's stunt show ( the stickered up KITT at the end of the episode) and tried to pass it off as KARR Even on a CRT back in 82 (or in 06 when I first saw this) it was quite easy to spot.....
Thanks once again!!! Another amazing episode. Can we all come together and get that white wire from the overhead console a star on the walk of fame? That wire has more screen time then some well known actors. 🤣🤣🤣 Once again! Keep it up guys! I’m loving it!!
Great commentary. Again. These commentaries are top-notch. I’m always waiting for the next one. During the KITT-KARR-chase (ca. 26.20 min), you mention that it’s probably a crew/cameramans leg that are visible in rear window. I’ve always thought this to be a continuity error. Michael was hanging on to KARR minutes earlier. It looks as if he still is - only he is now in KITT.
I remember seeing the ending of the episode about ten years ago, where KARR drives off the cliff... and being like "hey, I've seen this before, isn't that from The Car?". And boom, it was. ^^ One thing that wasn't mentioned here is the shot that follows immediately after, where we see KARR fall down the cliff and hit the water. That was also stock footage, of a mid-to-late '60s Continental, which was frequently used in many TV shows during that era. I think its first use was in an episode of the original "Mission: Impossible" series.
After you read my first comment maybe you can do another video on Trust doesn't Rust but with the original script of KARR and KITT at the County Wearhouse. Where KARR tells KITT being one of a kind is special and being two of a kind
So much potential. I wish they would have had KARR as a multi episode villain. Escaping this episode and reappearing during the season. Would have been epic. Great review thanks!
I love that you pointed out the 'adult theater' drive-by! I always thought that was hilarious that they do a drive-by of the Pussycat Theater in the San Fernando Valley and somehow it was never caught in post-production and appeared in the televised episode! Hey, this is a family show and they are driving by a porno theater! LOL.
I noticed at thd end of the episode when KARR is confronting KITT on the road at the end of the episode that they used the stickered up KITT car from the episode Slammin Sammy's Stunt Show Spectacular.
Great Job on this episode. Really feel like this one was an homage to the movie "The Car." I think naming KARR so it sounds like Car. Some of KARR's sound effects I believe were taken from the movie, like anytime KARR rev's the motor, that effect is from the movie I believe. When KARR breaks into the foundation, and Devon is talking to the security guard and they keep saying The Car Mr Miles, The Car! The Car.
I loved Trust Dosen't Rust and KITT vs KARR I had always wondered if Michael and KITT ever picked up the pieces of KARR to make sure he dosent come back
Hi Great 😁 Good old Time 👍👍👍 I wait for some pictures or video from jumps that we can see what is after the jumps 😁🙉. That be great We must thank for your that you doing this to spend your time. Best wish Pierre knight Germany
I've always loved knight rider. These commentary episodes are freaking awesome. Thank u for all ur hard work. Are there any of these for the dukes of Hazzard episodes. If anyone knows plz let me know. Thank u very much
The level of detail here is amazing. I guess I knew it was the KITT cars but you think it is another one, and that scene of the chase with practically all cars being used for a 1-2 min piece is quite something. Was it Paul Frees or did our Optimus friend do it first time, I forget.
12:38 I don't know why, but that full-size Ring Master, especially the close up shot of its head, kind of reminds me of something out of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (before they went CGI). Like when you see close ups on human characters like Sir Topham Hatt (or as we call him in the UK The Fat Controller). But anyways, "Trust Doesn't Rust" is definitely another one of my favourite Knight Rider episodes. The other day, I actually spent the whole day watching through both KARR episodes and both Garthe Knight episodes.
I like the intro that you guys did . That was a cool fact about when Karr jump the cliff I thought that does not look like Karr or a Trans Am frame it look to long .
Another interesting episode. Still I'm even more puzzled by Michael Long's back story from the pilot episode. Not only does Wilton Knight know where to find Michael after he is shot, but he builds a prototype based on the same car as he is driving.
Funny... At 26:01, it was not the camera's light on the windshield reflection that I noticed but Michael's leg on the back of the car... while he is supposed to have gotten into KITT at that time. :)
That early print ad for the episode was a bit misleading - "a supercar with titanic powers greater than his own." Devon actually states that KITT and KARR have all of the same capabilities, but with a difference in programming. KITT is programmed to protect human life, while KARR is programmed for self preservation. Clickbait before clickbait was a thing. It's interesting that KARR features a green-yellow version of what will later be KITT's voicebox, despite KARR being the earlier model. KITT still features the older red blinking square version of the voicebox.
Its amazing how you know everything about Knight Rider.I thought i knew lots of stuff about the
show but you have surpased me.
Great job guys! A perfect video to end 2020 with. You know, the more of these I watch, the more I realise that making a truly screen accurate replica of KITT (or KARR) requires plenty of gaffer tape, numerous hammer blows to the bodywork and some dude disguised as a seat!

I have always thought it would have been cool if Garth had Resurrected Karr and Garth and Karr had to match up against Michael and Kitt.
When K.A.R.R. was destroyed in K. I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R and we can see the flashing K.A.R.R. computer, since K.A.R.R. had not a body already, I thought that in a future episode Garth would use K.A.R.R. computer in Goliath.
@@kimo_ that could have been cool too.
That was done in the Knight Rider PC game by Davilex, it's pretty awesome. Would've been even better to see it done in an episode!
@@AchtungBaby77 You like Knight Rider & U2! I'm not the only one! haha!

Anyone saw the ComTron rig and thought: Optimus Prime?
One of the best episodes. Bonnie had a lot of screentime and wears her typical white overrall with brown boots. Nice to watch at 17:18

Without the yellow nose scanner bar, the first KARR episode was really confusing.
Yeah, that's why I preferred it when KARR later received the yellow scanner, along with the KARR license plate and two-tone paint job.

@@gizaha I take you're point, I'm still hopeful theyll do it right.
@@philllev Hope is a bad thing, it destroys human and society.
Hohoho..my favorite episode from S1....those archiv pics at the end are great...priceless
Thanks and happy new year! Karr and Kitt ❤️
Pretty sure the scene from The Car, going off the cliff is the same scene just without the day for night correction done in post production.
i am sure they used it again later on in the series too, it could be season 2 or even 3.
@@procta2343 it was in season one I believe, the episode with the blonde girl who lost her memory
What always puzzled me is why the episode editor used the shot of KITT from slammin sammy's stunt show ( the stickered up KITT at the end of the episode) and tried to pass it off as KARR
Even on a CRT back in 82 (or in 06 when I first saw this) it was quite easy to spot.....
There is lot of work goes into these programs great video guys
Thanks once again!!! Another amazing episode.
Can we all come together and get that white wire from the overhead console a star on the walk of fame? That wire has more screen time then some well known actors. 🤣🤣🤣
Once again!
Awesome Job Brother 👍👍👍😀 Happy NewYear 2021! Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸
Love your Knight Rider episode commentries even thougj they are years old.
Another great job! Happy New Year Gentlemen!!
Thank you, thank you, 🙏🏻 for this. Wonderful video as always. Brilliant stuff 👍❤️
Thank you for sharing I been waiting for this one so long I am from South Africa
At 37:31 the door logo is visible on the white truck on the left then covered in later shots.
LOL.
And I thought family shows were boring...
Absolutely fantastic love the channel! Love what you guys do and I absolutely l knightRider 😍
Please keep these commentary is coming
Love from 🇬🇧
Happy 2021. 💯
These are great, thanks!!
I noticed at thd end of the episode when KARR is confronting KITT on the road at the end of the episode that they used the stickered up KITT car from the episode
Slammin Sammy's Stunt
Show
Spectacular.
The guy(ringmaster)at the 3 Rings restaurant is Ivan E. Roth, he was in a lot of 80's horror movies.
The Car.
i think those scifi props were used in the V tv-movies too.. i swear i've seen a few of these props in both. Good stuff as usual Joe!
I loved Trust Dosen't Rust and KITT vs KARR I had always wondered if Michael and KITT ever picked up the pieces of KARR to make sure he dosent come back

Happy new year
Love the commentaries
Love this..and all the info and bts pics
Fab behind the scenes photos Joe,thankyou
I never knew the blurb about the scene from Le Car
The level of detail here is amazing. I guess I knew it was the KITT cars but you think it is another one, and that scene of the chase with practically all cars being used for a 1-2 min piece is quite something. Was it Paul Frees or did our Optimus friend do it first time, I forget.
Paul Frees did the second time, as , Peter Cullen i think was filming at the time, so couldnt do the second time.
Fun fact KARR in this episode was voiced by Peter Cullen for you Transformers fan is also the voice of Optimus Prime.
'Another great video! Thanks for sharing. :)
I like the intro that you guys did . That was a cool fact about when Karr jump the cliff I thought that does not look like Karr or a Trans Am frame it look to long .
I always thought that blotch on the seat was a bad patch job after someone bungled removing the passenger belt guide. Is it not attached there?
Thanks guys, really been looking forwards to this one. Didn't disappoint. Great start to the new year with it :)
Knight Rider aired at 7pm on Tuesday's in the UK in 1982.I would always yell at anyone who dare to speak while i was watching this.
Another interesting episode. Still I'm even more puzzled by Michael Long's back story from the pilot episode. Not only does Wilton Knight know where to find Michael after he is shot, but he builds a prototype based on the same car as he is driving.
Same, that has always bugged me lol, was it just coincidence or did they hunt down a cop who used his own 82 Trans Am at work 😄😄🤷🏽♂️
Paul Stanley directed it. LOL! I know we aren't taking about The KISS singer, but it still funny to hear it put this way.
