I’m so confused, none of these methods work. The message was there in the contacts list for like 10 seconds but then the app restarted itself and then the message that I saw was gone and isn’t coming back no matter what I do.

but what about when audio messages disappear because i forgot to hit keep?? can I get it back???
If you are forgetting to save the audio instead of deleting it, you can only re-record that audio or re-download it on your iPhone.
