Palpatine's Point of View of The World Between Worlds CANON

  • The world between worlds in Star Wars Rebels (canon) made us realize that there exists a time and space in Star Wars where all events in the galaxy at any time can be seen or heard. Ezra grabbed Ahsoka as she fought Vader and saved her through the portal.
Palpatine was able to open the portal, somewhat, and reach into it with the force after using some Sith sorcercy.
Here are Sidious' thoughts on the world between worlds in canon, from Episode 9 Rise of Skywalker.

But that one pull of fate could have split the fabric of space and time in the galaxy. If Ahsoka died there, she wouldn’t have met Grogu and Din. That means that Grogu and Din wouldn’t have found the seeing stone, thus not being able to find Luke Skywalker. That means that Luke wouldn’t have taken in Grogu as his first apprentice and instead his first apprentice would become Ben Solo which leads to the events of the sequel trilogy. The World Between Worlds concept could be a pretty good way to separate the current Streaming Era of Star Wars with the Sequel trilogy, being able to expand both franchises while keeping them separate. Or just starting fresh with the current Star Wars media

This thing of removing characters from their timeline is something that even Ahsoka says to Ezra that it can be dangerous when he sees the portal to the moment Kanan sacrificed himself, although its was just an illusion of Palps. The interesting thing to note is that it says this connects the living and the dead, not complete mastery of time. It's also important to note the two events seen in these portals was Ahsoka's moment of death and Caleb Doom's. That itself confirms what is stated in the book, the Realm Between Realms only allows you to change events by undoing a person's death.
We already know that a person's death causes ripples through the Force which transcend time and space. Anakin sensed Padme's death long before it happened, Yoda felt the death of Jedi from the other side of the galaxy and Force Ghosts can appear anywhere without seemingly needing to travel.
Therefore, there must be a place, a conduit, through which this Force energy travels for all these things to be possible but it takes a phenomenal release of Force energy, such as that released upon death, to open the way.

It's not really time travel, though. The World Between Worlds connects the living and the dead, not all of time. It just allows you to pull someone out of a situation they would've died in, not just change anything in time and since Ahsoka was shown to have been going back in the temple at the end of season 2 of Rebels, we know that using it doesn't necessarily change anything. Ahsoka was already destined to be saved and it wasn't something that was retconned or changed later.

I don't think the World Between Worlds is going to be used to change events, Ahsoka wasn't shown to be dead after fighting Vader, I'm pretty sure it's the type of time travel where if someone was ever going to use it then their actions would have already been done in the moment. If someone wasn't saved through the portals, then that means someone in the future never was going to save then. Filoni explain back then that the WBW isn't about time travel but about knowledge and destruction. You can gain knowledge of the future or futures that may happen, and you can see things that happened in the past. You can at times choose to alter them, but it's perilous to do so and when you alter something you don't know if that's not the way it always happened. So destruction is the other half of what's in there. When you go through these doorways, you're in peril of destruction because you're missing all sorts of things that would have happened or things would've happened otherwise, it's a dangerous game. In fact the only altering event we witness is guided by a creature link to one of the most powerful being which happen to have given his remaining life force to the person being saved. This case is so specific that we will probably never see the WBW being used like this again.

I get your point of like what if they overuse it but I believe they won’t and are doing this so they can kind of retcon the ST or for them to bring back Ben Solo. But there’s so much they can do with this. Like a what if type of scenario, but as long as Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are in control or overseeing it, I’m happy. They care about it as much as we do and that makes sleep right at night

    Here's an idea.
What if the entire sequel trilogy is an insight into the future which Luke Skywalker sees when he goes off to find Ezra Bridger as way of helping Ahsoka (book of Boba fett establishes that connection). When Luke and Ezra meet and greet, a surge of power flows through them as they are both connected. Luke is the key who has the highest mediclorian count in the galaxy and Ezra is the defacto door into the world between worlds because he was the one who could open the door in rebels. Together they both see into the future and how no matter what happens, the sith survive. Then they meet up with Ahsoka to tell her and everyone decides that the best way to counter the sith is through the jedi order and that they must go back in time and try their best to ensure that order 66 doesn't happen and Palpatine is stopped only to find that there is a much bigger conspiracy about the sith than they knew.

I’m actually writing a fan series about the World Between Worlds that’s in a similar vein as Death Battle or Super Power Beatdown. Bringing certain characters with similar attributes to come to realm by the will of the Force. Rahm Kota vs Kanan Jarrus, Rey Skywalker vs Rey Solana (Duel of the Fates), Ahsoka Tano vs Starkiller (post The Force Unleashed 2), Leia (Canon) vs Leia (Thrawn Trilogy) and MAYBE add a third Leia (Infinities). I did add rules when writing the scripts:
    1. no one Dark Sided can go there because the temptation of the Dark Side can have them try to change historic events throughout the timeline.
    2. no one dies/wins/loses/etc. because of the will of the Force (as Freddie Prinze Jr. said “skill doesn’t dictate whether you win or lose, the Force does based on balance”).
    3. both characters must be at similar points in their respective timelines.

Having an extremely dangerous power like the World Between Worlds can be a good way to raise the stakes so long as the power is never really attained. It's like the Valley of the Jedi in Dark Forces II, or the Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones. I think Dave Filoni understood that when he wrote the Rebels story, and considering his position at Lucasfilm now, it's probably safe to say the galaxy is safe for the time being.

What i understood of world between worlds is not that it changes the past. In the contrary, what happens inside already happened. It is lile harry potter time travel. Ahsoka tano was saved by Ezra, but as you said, we never saw her die. Because Ezra saved her. But when he wanted to save His master, Ahsoka stopped him, because if he did not sacrifice himself, Ezra would not be there => paradox. So at least if Disney had some logic, they would not use it to CHANGE what already happened, like brong qui gon jin or ben solo or whatever. Since we SAW these people die. I doubt they can even bring anakin or padme

People focus too much about the time travel shenanigans part of The WBW here is how Filoni describe it back when the WBW episode was aired :
"I don't really think of it as time travel. It's not really a thing where you go through one door and out another in a different time. The world between worlds is really about knowledge and gaining knowledge. As the Dume wolf says, what's in there is knowledge and destruction. You can gain knowledge of the future or futures that may happen, and you can see things that happened in the past. You can at times choose to alter them, but it's perilous to do so and when you alter something you don't know if that's not the way it always happened ( Ahsoka was always saved by Ezra). So destruction is the other half of what's in there.
When you go through these doorways, you're in peril of destruction because you're missing all sorts of things that would have happened or things would've happened otherwise, you know, so it's a dangerous game but it's not something we're here going in and out of different doors. It's an extension of the Jedi's ability to perceive the future and the past, as described in Empire Strikes Back."
In fact the only altering event we witness is guided by a creature (Morai) link to one of the most powerful being ( The Daughter ) which happen to have given his remaining life force to the person being saved ( Ahsoka). This case is so specific that we will probably never see the WBW being used like this again.

I really like the concept of the World Between Worlds. Like yourself I am not a fan of time travel in Star Wars HOWEVER! Part of the reason I like the WBW is because Ashoka, in her sage wisdom, makes it clear to Ezra that this really doesn’t work like time travel as we’ve seen it elsewhere.
The potential, as Palpatine said, exists to change reality with it, but that makes sense. It’s the ultimate end goal of the Sith. To have power over reality, to twist it to your whims.
That’s why Ezra, a relatively green Jedi was able to access the WBW relatively easily and the frighteningly powerful Sith had to struggle just to barely touch it. Ezra was, in a sense, invited. He followed the portal’s own steps and rules.
A Jedi lives in accordance with the Force, a Sith seeks to dominate (and thus corrupt) it.
So, unless someone really seeks to abuse it like that Lego Star Wars thing, I’m not as worried about the World Between World’s existence because it seems less like some kind of easy cheat and more like something mysterious and rare.

The Sequels are looking so much better now, and they were clearly well planned. Palps learned how to become a Sith Force Ghost-ish from Plagueis, and learned on his own how to use cloning to live forever. This is what he was telling Anakin in the theatre. To live forever.. he planned all along to try make a clone body and transfer his essence or force ghost to it when he died. It's just a step further than Jedi Force ghosting. Reys Father was a failed clone attempt, Snoke was simply a cloned apprentice. His cloning plan goes all the way back to before the prequels. The Sequels, The Mandalorian and more are all starting to reveal Disney's larger grand plan of Palps immortality. It's really Great long term planning and writing by Disney to develop this storyline.. much like how the MCU think way ahead. Brining Palps back in EP 9 wasn't a knee jerk decision, it was clearly planned all along and your opinion about the Sequels is small minded. Think bigger, like Disney does. lol

Most people didn't like world between worlds because they were just thinking of it as just time travel. I believe that while could be one interpretation it was more like a lesson for Ezra. He was told by the wolves that he had to save the past to protect the future. It was about knowledge. Yes he saved Asoka but she reminded him that he could not save Kanan because it would kill him and everyone else and wouldn't be worth it. He said it was 9ne last lesson and he knew Palpitine wanted that power. He then destroyed the temple because of that.even when he was presented the opportunity to be with his parents again by that power he said no and goodbye to his parents.

It's good that you used the term Hieroglyphs, StarWars has always had real human history interwoven into the story. In this case the Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyph for beloved daughter is a bird with a woman. The difference however is the woman is kneeling behind the bird, obviously the episode displays the image differently.

Personally I think time travel is a pandora's box of problems. The only reason I think it worked with Ahsoka is because her being saved was what happened the first time. So nomatter what ezra was always going to save Ahsoka at that moment, kinda like he was fated to.
That moment with Ahsoka also adds a nice way to retcon the sequel movies if they want. Basically say the time line splits on weather or not Ahsoka dies. If she lives she tells Din Jarin to go to tython and grogu contacts luck to save the later, snoke is never created and Palpatineremaines dead. If she dies grogu never goes to tyhon and is not saved by luke, snoke is created and palpatine returns.

I think Ezra opening the portal didn’t have to do with how powerful he was, but more how lucky he was to be in that circumstance. He was led by Kanan, who has a connection with the very wolves that are present on Ezras home planet. A lot of things had to fall into place for it. I’m sure any other Jedi could have opened it if they were in Ezras place

I think they did just enough with the World Between Worlds and shouldn't do anymore. They showed the power/plane existed (which helps justify force Ghosts in my mind), they showed Palpatine wanted it, they cleared up how Ahsoka survived Malachore at the end of season 2, and they gave Ezra his last big test/trial/lesson that Ahsoka and Kanan taught him which he used to sacrifice himself and save everyone. He destroyed the portal/Temple and it should stay closed imo. I agree, the dead should stay dead at this point...it takes away too much otherwise.

  • @ilya_lavrenyuk

It could be a surprise but the world between worlds feets perfectly to Star Wars. Because of such strong things as KOTOR 2 with Chris Avalon writing or Darth Vader 2017 by Charles Soule we know that the Force has a free will, that determines the will of every living creature by controlling them and biding together with the power of the energy field. That determination helps us understand why no one in the galaxy can use WBW to change past - Force will not allow this. The Force saved Ashoka from the Vader using Ezra as a tool. That's why Ashoka has never actually died in that fight. And there were no chance for Palpatin to succeed. Just like Lord Momin couldn't change the past. He could restore his original body in future but only to be defeated by Vader. Because It is the will of the Force and Anakin should fulfill the prophecy. In Harry Potter this way of time travel is a great mistake, cause It leads to paradoxes. If the characters know exactly how the flywheel of time works they could change events with their free will . Nothing can stop them from making paradox of murdering themselves in the past. But in Star Wars the Force can prevent such things to save the proper flow of time in the galaxy far far away. (Excuse me for bad English!)

JFC this is not going to be used to retcon Episode 9. It didn't change Ahsoka's death because we never actually saw her die, we were just made to assume it happened. Ezra going through the portal and saving her was what was meant to happen, he didn't change or prevent anything.
