In this video I attempt to teach a private photography student but things don't go as planned. Perhaps there's been a miscommunication but I think he's set his expectations far too high.
As if it's not enough for me to lavish Chris with world class landscape photography instruction, he somehow got the ridiculous idea that I'd be letting him sleep in the camper. Anyone who watches my channel knows that not even Brent gets to kip in the camper.
Suffice it to say that things take a turn for the worst during downtime, especially when Chris reveals his beverage of choice is bloody Horlicks.
The next day gets even worse when Chris bags a forest shot that puts mine to shame. I mean, I should be flattered that he captured a banger while on my watch but I'm just bitter.
Mind you, it's nothing that a Twirl and Double Decker won't fix, even if they are just economy sized.
Thanks for watching

Well I’m not sure where to start. There’s so much I could say about this trip!! But you know there’s always a silver lining….Amanda was there so I didn’t have to spend all my time with Gavin!!! Seriously, I must say Gavin makes photography fun and educational. We were together for 3 days and I think my face ached at the end from laughter. I can’t recommend a private session with Gavin enough. I certainly came away from our short time together with new tricks and techniques in my tool bag. After all that bag has slightly less chocolate in it. I can’t wait for our next time together. Thanks Gavin!!!
Thanks Chris. There's a link...in this sentence www.fototripper.com/store/private-photography-tuition/
The bathroom scene triggered some fond memories of our intimate times together.
‘Fondle’ memories? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more!
Come for a visit and we'll make some more ;)
The question I ask myself is not why do people carve their names into trees but who brings a knife on a date?
I agree reason why I normally have a gun with me instead. LOL
Stuff like that tree being carved into makes me so frustrated. We have a beautiful state park near where I live where people are always carving their names into rocks. I can’t stand it.
Chris has a good eye and good humor to match. He could become East Coast Grumpy, given the chance.
He's already purchased a GrumpWaggon so it's begun.
@@fototripper I've also purchased a lifetime membership to CAA!!
@@toshphotos Pointless. They will not help you on backroads, which is exactly where all the best shots live.
"get in that shitter!" 🤣
What a good sport your client was! So funny as always, fab photos as well
Love the addition to your repertoire "Chasing Fog" goes great with Chasing Awe and Light and the best chase of all Chasing Amanda 👍😍
What a Fantastic RUclips channel. How did I not find you earlier? Well I’m here now, and have a lot of catching up to do. Absolutely Brilliant 👌🏼
These were some great images, and I am impressed. The choice of music for this video also was top shelf.
Oh gosh, this was fantastic! Love Chris' waterfall shot, was beautiful. Can't wait for the next video.
Great video and stills as always, Gavin. I always enjoy the madcap hi-jinx!!..FYI I share your affection for that perfect, snotless fried egg. The key to this, which was handed down to me by my forefathers, is a lid on the frying pan so the heat is reflected downwards onto the yolk.... preferably glass so you can see the frying progression. Once that nice white skin is formed over the yolk, the lid is removed and the pan is shaken quickly but not too vigorously making sure the yolk doesn't over-jiggle. If it does, then it's not quite ready so the lid is replaced and the egg is given a few more seconds for that perfect sunny core. It's important to remain vigilant however as 10 seconds over the line makes for that stiff 'hard-boiled' yolk consistency. Anyway, looking forward to the next video for that great shot you speak of.....cheers!!
Or you can just flip some hot oil over the top with the spatula like the pro's do in Waffle House.
@@fototripper Ah yes....the hot oil treatment....very slippery of you to slide that one in!😉
Nice shots Chris!
Also nice job keeping up the comedy, you fit right in.
One of the funniest yet, Chris is a great sport. Cadbury, if you’re watching, get in touch.
That fellas deadpan looks make things even more funny! Thanks for the laughs y’all brightened my Monday!
Damn Chris got some good shots! He was a good compliment to your humor! Great video!
Very, very amusing Gav. Cheers for that, you’re the only photographer my wife likes watching.
The student becomes the master. Well done Chris! You too Gavin, and thanks for another entertaining video!
Just found your channel. Enjoyable content, please keep on going.
Loved the reflexion shot well worth the wait
Cracking video Gavin, those images were stunning especially the handheld light rays. Unreal. If I ever get over to NS I'll be hitting you up🤙
Great photography, Chris, oh and Gavin of course, lol! First potty humour I have seen since the move east, priceless ...it does make me miss Uncle Grumpy, though. I'm hoping to see more of Chris, who is obviously a great addition to your fabulous videos!
Stunning photography in this episode! 🙌
Hilarious video. I thought the last shot with the sunburst was terrific.
Can't wait to see the continuation of this trip.
Wolfgang
I really like that panel that Chris shot. I especially enjoyed that light coming in from the side on the trees. I think that was done really really well. You must be a good teacher.
The bathroom scene made me LMFAO!
Great humor and great shots! I love the mix. Chris reminds me of Brent and should be paid the co-star salary 😆
Always enjoying you videos, keeps bringing a smile to me on those damp cold dark and wet days! Still haven’t learned a thing about photography! 😂
Sorry mate been a while! Loved this one bud, that reflection shot was just beautiful
Just subscribed loved the content and the fun will watch all back catalogue thanks
Hi Gavin looking for a cpl filter for my 18-35 sigma art lens any suggestions would be so helpful I haven't got a clue reasonably new to serious photography thanks, Ray
Absolutely hilarious!! and the images were pretty goo too!
What a life you built for yourself! Fantastic people with fantastic landscapes!
Chris is such a good sport! And a great photographer too. Loved the images he shared. And yours too Gavin. They're alright . . . .I had a good laugh between the three of you.
You guys are amazing. Oh man!!!
The lake photo was really good Gavin. Top work.
I miss the blooper reel :) thanks for bringing it back. I swear I saw uncle in those woods too.....need to get the chuckle brothers back together :)
Ha Ha Ha GET IN THE BATHROOM! I only snorted my coffee once, i swear. Those sun beam photos came out amazing.
Lol, that was a very ‘touching’ film ! 🤣😂🤣 Some stunning images guys, what a place Nova Scotia appears to be, looking forward to the next one! 😀👍
Some great captures from both of you Chri's Photographs very good keep up the great videos .Would love to get over there one day .Finances permitting of course
Poor Chris. I can only hope he was getting union rates although that bathroom scene should include hazard pay.
Well another great episode Gavin! Have you been picked up a a streaming service yet? I think you could become the Monty Python of photography! Beautiful images!!!!
Not yet...
My grandfather told me when I was a young child about carving initials into trees or writing on restroom walls: "fool's names and monkey faces are always seen in public places". That took away any desire I might have ever had for that foolishness. I like that fleece jacket you are wearing in the second part of this video. And BTW, you guest had a couple of really good compositions. I especially liked his shot of the tree on stilts. And to give the devil its due, your shots were OK, too. 😁 And Amanda looked particularly attractive in her cameo role. Amanda always looks attractive. 😇
She does.
I needed that laugh too boss, thank you!
The bathroom scene had me laughing out loud. Funny stuff. Chris was a champ.
Loved the one facing the sun handheld, Chris' image is also great. Man Nova Scotia is so beautiful specially in the fall. I hope I have the chance to visit the place someday.
Why is it that I always think of my 8 yr old grandson when I watch your videos ? Hmm, he doesn’t even own a camera ! 😂 Gorgeous shots !
Well done Chris. You certainly gave Gavin a good photography lesson 👏👍😉
Love this dude.
LOL...Really laughed, bathroom, sound of a pouring with a soft " poot" then a soft " meow"
Hummmmmmmmm is this the teacher being taught !! gtreat shots by both Chris has a great eye for shots i loved that waterfall shot !! looking forward to the next vid !!
Not gonna lie, Chris makes this film what it is. The better photos, the darker beard. The man has it all. 😉
What a start to the new year, I laughed so hard I have tears running down my face and my belly hurts. And some great nay fanniqua shots to show us. As a brit living in Texas I do miss Cadburys whole nut dairy milk chocolate bars the big ones mmmmm.
GET IN THAT SH**TER! 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome stuff. That shot of the waterfall was amazing!
Great start to 2023 cheers 🎉
Nice location Bro , good job 👍👍👍
You both had some beautiful photos
You make learning easy due to the comedy aspect, it sticks in your mind. Who are you ?
Chris was a good sport! Nice shots!
Others have been locked up for less :-) funny adventure Pal and well done for camping on that comp too !! That twirl almost turned into a flake :-)
Aye pretty much.
You are awesome.😁
Nice images Chris
Great vidjo, really had me laughing outloud! Love your sunburst shot, Chris's was rubbish.....stingy git with the Twirls 🙄🙄
Chris's waterfall shot was magnifiqua for sure, I'd be jealous too
oh my god I just spat tea laughing 😂🤣
Very good. Any chance Grumpton will visit one of these days?
Thanks for showing the bloopers, but why do your 20 minute vids seem more like 5 minutes?😁 Beautiful forest shots btw
I think I’m gunna need a bigger screen? 😂
Too many Stickies makes for a wider angle lens!🤣🤣🤣
hahaha, great stuff you guys. ps. watching this with coffee made with freshly ground beans, and a twirl.
Poor Chris…accommodations not included.😂 That handheld pano was really nice.
Some weirdos like that.. that made me chuckle.
The night pee scene in the rented bathroom is ... and of course all the daytime sacrifices in your attempt to shape this new photographer too.
Wow that reflection shot with the lily pad looks fantastic! Great video. You should have taken a shit in his bedroom 🤣 grt guido
LOL😂fotogasmanifique video again🤭 keep going on👍
Seen the title pop up and thought " oh, Tom must be visiting Gav" 😅🤣🤣🤣
Ouch!
OMG that bathroom scene is so funny!
You are absolutely sick! Gavin ;O)
That Chris, what a talent! Loved that waterfall shot. Can you give us a link to his channel?
Link in descrippy...
@@fototripper Was only kidding, but some top work.
you have me missing the autumn colors ughhh
LMAO! Sir… you make my day. Cheers - 🍻
Excellent vid as always, next time ask them for a curly wurly!!
Hello Gavin and welcome to 23 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
You two are great together. Reminds me of Conan W/Jordan Schlansky.
Preference for Chris's work!
got to have twix or a marathon (Snickers my arse).
Amanda would enjoy a finger of fudge ☺.
Not a bad video, so 2023 is looking up.🤣 👍👍
Letting loose those little nuclears while you were going for a pish 🤣🤣😂😂
I like how you gave Amanda grief over gobbling down the Triwl…you’ve never done that, right?
Wouldn't dream of it. It's uncouth.
@11:57 my kind of composition - although it might be said it is a little flat.. Final comp from that location though, very nice :-) Has Amanda developed the Twirl eating skill to ensure that you don't change your mind about sharing and snaffle the chocolate back?
Wondering if Chris saw the initials AG carver on the wall behind the sink?
This vlog seemed to be more about (UK) food than photography! Happy to bring over a suitcase of UK chocolate for a free 3 day food (and a bit of photography) session but I’m not sleeping in the sh*tter!
Beautiful light in the last shots!
How are you finding the A1 over the 7R4 for landscapes, btw? Any differences?…
Hate it.
have you tried a Nikon
Ever notice how how leafy branches seem to appear as if suspended in air. Cannot see the branch or trunks against the back ground. You can see this in this video
I guess Chris’s accommodation fee will cover the down payment for the new Fjallraven fleece!
Unless Fjallraven have “been in touch”
@@robdalziel7056 They have not. But gerrin touch...
YOU TEACH???!!! What do you pay your students?? LOL Seriously, I like your work and you humor.
It must be the Atlantic moderating your climate, WHERE'S THE SNOW? 2 of the coldest memories I have in January are Joliette Quebec and Pana Illinois. Both are south of Halifax.
Yeah its pretty warm in the cape right now, but this vid is a bit old now! We had some snow today but nothing that stuck haha
RESPECT to Chris for his contribution. How come you didn't tap him up to buy 'Chasing Awe...by Gavin Hardcastle'? Would have been half price as no postage involved!!
Good idea. I'll pitch it next time ;)
Gavin would a polarizing filter work to reduce the fog when it was too heavy?
No.
I feel like the bathroom scene was a missed opportunity for some long exposure teaching moment. What would be the best shutter speed, anyway?
Like I told him. 1/6". That'll be $20 please.
@@fototripper lol
Oh dear Gavin. You do attract the wrong sort. Trouble makers, all of them. 😆
Bad influence.
The new Grumpacious!
