Brilliant! Such a simple and straightforward solution that it's embarrassing we didn't think of it sooner. Thank goodness for a clever blender community. Cheers Sophie! Thanks for this video!
Thank you again to Meirha! She is lovely and also makes art: twitter.com/meirhabarber Also, I know it's possible to add text within Blender, and here is a great video about that if you're curious: ruclips.net/video/qE_hKCP2Ntk/видео.html Every method will have its pros and cons, and in this case what I really like about my method is that it allows for the outline of the letters, which I think is such a fun addition.
I've been playing with this method today and I came up with a trick to change the pace of the build modifier. Because the build modifier works on the number and position of vertices that are in the GP object, you can smooth the animation out. By selecting all the vertices on the mask layer (edit mode), click Stroke -> Simplify -> Sample, and then select a really small length number (e.g. 0.03). The result is a nice even distribution of vertices without influencing the shape of the mask too much. Granted, not doing this does give variation in speed which is sometimes nice.
Oh that's really cool, I hadn't thought of the build modifier as working that way, in relation to number of vertices. I'll check that out, thanks for sharing :)
Thank you! I've been taking my art seriously for maybe 6 years now (but of course I always liked drawing growing up) and I'm going on 1 year of using grease pencil :)
Hi Sophie, Been cross referencing both the tutorials and the link to converting text to GP directly. The advantage that I see with converting directly to GP from text is that the build modifier will sequentially build the characters i.e. you don't have to do the manual step of moving the characters one by one to a new layer to force the order. However I am facing an issue. In that method, Blender also decides to create as many materials as there are characters in my text! Have you come across such an issue? Thanks again

Yes the community is awesome! I could make a whole video about the ingenious tricks I learned from people's comments on my videos XD

oooh! so cool you made another video!
Yes I love it so much!! Definitely will be my go to trick for pretty titles and script fonts :)
Great tutorials Sophie, thanks for sharing all that you know about grease pencil, I am trying to learn more about it.
Thank you for this. I'm learning a lot. Please keep experimenting and sharing.
That means a lot, so glad to hear it!

Genius
My text is building right to left, is there anyway to reverse it's direction? Or let Blender know which group of vertices should go first?
You are an amazing artist .... your selection of object is so mature ....shall i know how many years you are into it ?
Thank you! I've been taking my art seriously for maybe 6 years now (but of course I always liked drawing growing up) and I'm going on 1 year of using grease pencil :)
Wow 6 years .... thats awesome .... very glad to hear from you ... 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

my build is just filling in the letters in a random order?
Have you also seen the first video I made about grease pencil lettering? ruclips.net/video/tv1ZTK94K3I/видео.html the section at 9:47 covers that :)
Very good!!👍
I leave my like to help your channel too!
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
