Welcome to our channel, where we delve into the exciting developments shaping Lahore's transportation infrastructure! In this video, we'll take you on an informative journey through the latest updates on the #Lahore_Ring_Road_Map, including the #Southern_Loop_3 (#Lahore_Ring_Road_SL3), #Southern_Loop_4 (SL4), the #Western_Loop, #KLM_Extension, #Lahore_bypass and the controlled access raised corridor from Niazi_Chowk_to_Babu_Sabu_Interchange via #Gulshan_e_Ravi.
The Traffic Conundrum:
As Lahore grows, so does the complexity of its transportation needs. Experts have long predicted that the city's rapid expansion would inevitably strain its transportation infrastructure, and these predictions have come to fruition. The surge in vehicular traffic, coupled with the demand for efficient transportation networks, has turned Lahore's roads into a labyrinth of gridlock and congestion.
The Birth of Lahore Ring Road:
The Lahore Ring Road, conceived by visionary urban planners, emerged as a proposed remedy to Lahore's traffic woes. The core idea was simple yet profound: construct a ring road encircling the radial routes of Lahore to enhance connectivity and alleviate the strain on existing roads.
This ambitious project was divided into two main loops: the Northern Loop and the Southern Loop. The Northern Loop, stretching from Gulshan-e-Ravi to Kamahan Village, became a reality in 2009. Meanwhile, Southern Loop 1, extending from Kamahan to Gajju Matta, and Southern Loop 2, from Gajju Matta to Adda Plot, were completed in 2017, marking significant milestones in Lahore's transportation transformation.
However, the completion of Southern Loop 3 faced hurdles due to land disputes involving Bahria Town. Progress was stalled, and Lahore waited eagerly for a resolution. The good news arrived when the issue was finally resolved, paving the way for the construction of Southern Loop 3, slated for completion in December 2023.
Southern Loop 3:
The centerpiece of this video, Southern Loop 3 (SL3), is an integral part of the Lahore Ring Road. This segment encompasses an 08-kilometer stretch, boasting a width of 10.8 meters with six lanes (three on each side), forming a dual carriageway. The total paved width extends to 15 meters, complete with outer and inner shoulders and services roads.
SL3's alignment extends from the Raiwind Road Interchange to the Multan Road Interchange, connecting seamlessly with Southern Loop 4 (SL4).
Connecting the Dots:
But the transportation story in Lahore doesn't end here. The city's development doesn't adhere to a singular loop; it takes a more expansive route. To further bolster connectivity, the Punjab government has realigned Southern Loop 4 (SL4), extending it from the endpoint of SL3 to Sharaqpur Sharif. Additionally, a Western Loop has been introduced into the mix, enhancing Lahore's transportation network even further.
However, the story doesn't stop at the city's boundaries. The federal government has stepped in with a project that extends beyond the Lahore Ring Road, a bypass from SL3's endpoint, Maraka Interchange, to Sharaqpur Interchange on M3, connecting to the KSK Exit on M2. This strategic development forms a greater ring encompassing 122 kilometers, promising enhanced connectivity and efficiency for Lahore's residents and commuters.
Southern Loop 4: A New Direction:
Southern Loop 4 (SL4), previously connected to SL3, now takes a different path. The Punjab government's realignment decision redirects SL4 to Sharaqpur Sharif, bringing new possibilities for Lahore's transportation landscape. This shift aims to create a more comprehensive network that caters to the city's evolving needs.
The 40-Kilometer Bypass:
The Lahore Ring Road expansion project introduces a 40-kilometer-long, 6-lane bypass road stretching from Kalashah Kaku Interchange (M-2) to Sharaqpur Interchange (Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway) and connecting to Multan Road (N-5) near the radio station. This segment, aptly named Southern Loop 4 (SL4) in the Master Plan of Lahore 2050, promises a high-capacity, efficient road facility to accommodate inter-suburban travel demand and city-by-passable traffic.
The Controlled Access Raised Corridor Between Niazi Interchange and Babu Sabu Interchange
The project includes the 4-lane dual carriageway with a Controlled Access Facility from Niazi Interchange to Babu Sabu Interchange with the provision of a crossing facility through subways. Remodeling of the service road is also included to improve the cross-mobility of traffic. This project will help in reducing traffic issues at the aforesaid segments.

Lahore is already not able to breath and its water resources are fast depleting due to all this outward expansion. This will further increase the car dependecy and eat up the remaining forest/ agriculture land around the city. Terrible idea
Unfortunately most important point got least attention
Correct. Water will be unavailable. Ground Water resource is fast depleting. Water scarcity will definitely be a serious problem. A reservoir lake must be constructed like hub dam or khanpur dam. Rain is abundant plus cancel can be used for refilling.
The concept of ring road is widely accepted around the world. The city of Beijing has 5 rings around the city center. However, your points are valid. A clear shift to public transport is solution.
Lahore Sharaqpur Express Way

No any land will be acquired. Only illegal encroachments will be cleared if any.
😮 Water would be unavailable. Ground Water resource is fast depleting in Lahore. Water scarcity will definitely be a serious problem. A reservoir lake must be constructed like hub dam or khanpur dam. Rain is abundant plus canal can be used for refilling.
sounds good.
I think a tunnel should be made for Lahore Ring Road under Bahria Town
In that scenario, we anticipate a notably unfavorable benefit-to-cost ratio.
Why we built Lahore airport close to Indian border this is a major security risk.
The location of Lahore Airport close to the Indian border is attributed to the development of the city long before the partition of India in 1947. the primary goal of the airport is to serve the needs of the city and its residents. Security measures are in place to address any potential risks associated with its location.
