Ironing is one of the best ways to make clothes look expensive. I love wearing viscose/rayon, for example, but it can look really limp in its thin fast-fashion versions, so I iron it with Magic Sizing to give a bit crisper, more full-bodied appearance. Upgrading buttons can help a lot, too. Mostly, I don’t tumble-dry my clothes, it makes them look much more worn-out or cheap.

So true but I hate ironing

In my opinion - black doesn't automatically look expensive. Plus, it's not for everyone - as many people think. It depends on your color type. I avoid black as I get older because it also accentuates facial imperfections and wrinkles.

Yeah. Black looks a little harsh. Brown or navy are more flattering.

2:18: Agreed! I did this when I had to attend a funeral recently. Of course, I have a black dress, but I wanted to ensure I was dressed appropriately for the viewing and the funeral. It dawned on me that there was a highly publicized funeral for a wealthy family all over the media. Although I do not follow them in the news, there was one woman whose style, in general, spoke to me. That's when I realized she was known for wearing a specific style of dress. Long story short, I found a similarly styled dress (black tuxedo with satin lapels). And, because I NEVER wear nylons, I also took a page out of her book and purchased a pair from her preferred brand. No, I didn't stop there. Since I didn't have an appropriate purse, I also grabbed a clutch similar to one she had been photographed with. Done and perfect!

I'm 66 years old. I also thought that shoe sizes never really changed. But as I get older, I realise that that's not true. I started as a 36. I'm now a 38. Feet get flatter and wider as we get older. I love all the shoes I've collected. I just suffer but not the greatest.

1 COLOR COORDINATION: I like the idea of reminding us that because a garment is mixed print don't just go for the expected black or white to match it with but pull-out other colors to pair it with. 2 FIND YOUR MUSE: KarenBC is one, the Jillian Felice because they hooked my on to thrifting and Monroe Steele for wearing colors, then there is Beth Jones style for having fun playing with style thru thrifting. 3 SIZE MATTERS: I am a fan of the oversizeness but understand sometime you we may want to reel it in before we look like Dopey from the 7 dwarfs. 4 DRESS: I just started wearing dresses for just every day going out the door and shocked just how comfortable it is for me in these during hot temps and throwing on sneaks or flat sandal (I normally associate wearing heels with). 5 MIX HIGH END W/LOW END: I can't afford high end, so I stick to the look of structured pieces from tried and true well-known brands (love finding them while thrifting) and pairing with some fun fast fashion pieces. 6 ACCESSORIZE WITH CONFIDENCE: This is a problem area for me because I do have a lot of them but it takes more planning to have them paired with that day look. Since I have so many they are in drawers and trunks, etc. and not at my fingertips. 7 TEXTURE: I never gave it a thought that texture was a key, but I see where I have done this (especially during colder season). 8 STATEMENT FOOTWEAR: See this is my favorite long term purchase is shoes, total addiction and now because I was a major heel wearer, I look for the chunky flats and something different that I don't have 12 of (LOL!). Feet tending to swell now in my 60s so I am concerned about if my shoe size will change permanently. 8 ADD COLOUR: Something I need to do because all this summer I been wearing tan or black handbag. I have color handbags and shoes but I keep thinking I need to match garment. 9 BLACK IS BEST: In the closet it has you ready for everything day or night. 10 CONFIDENCE IS KEY!: You feel good in what you are wearing, you walk like you on a runway and own it. Thanks for sharing and ta ta for now!

      Valuable insights. 😊
I want to add about the first point, when there are mixed colors, a more accurate and relaxing for the eyes combination is to get the color least used (or that has the least surface) for the rest of the outfit (either pants, skirt, shoes, bag etc). If the most used color will be attracted by the pattern, the overall image will be overwhelming. (for my eyes at least 😅)

Hi Leonie, I’m hoping that you’re feeling better. I’ve probably thought of the first point at some time and then forgotten it, so it was good to get a reminder. Some of these things I already do, though dresses for me are strictly for warmer months. I make the most of getting the use out of them when I can. May try to see if I can stretch my season a little. Not one for hand swooping. I’m a kitchen sink plus half the pharmacy gal and hate to find I’m missing something. I found a roomy leather bag that’s gorgeous. Just love being inspired watching your videos

Great video, Leonie. I do have enough clothes, but of course, we women, always looking for something new😳🤪😂 i invested in very classic pieces , this year, including real jewelry. Finally sold most of my Chanel costume jewelry. So i still have a few things on my wishlist, but i also by watching runway shows, got some inspiration, especially Max Mara, its so gorgeous and cosy. I want everything😂 i might get a few pieces if i can, but most i can recreate with items already in my closet😜 and yes to accessories, love scarves, also certain makeup, can add something different, or hair style. I love to experiment, make it more editorial, but very wearable. Love scarves , belts. And in my climate is not much you need of warm clothes, SF , especially this year, its unbearable hot. 😅 Have a blessed day🙏❤️

I had plantar fasciitis and my foot grew a full size and a half. I had over a 100 pairs of designer shoes that I had to get rid of. Luckily my two daughters took them over and they were thrilled. I went from a 7 to an 8.5. When I was at 7.5 I thought they would grow no more but they continued to grow as my arch stretched. Once 7.5 was small I stopped buying shoes like I used to (3 or 4 pairs at a time 😳) and waited. I can still wear some 8’s but 8.5 is best. It was hard to give up my collection - I never thought that would happen. While this is not common, it can happen so do not buy too many pairs - I had some I never got to wear as I got them while I had the condition and my feet grew before I got to wear them 😢.

As fashion changes I sometimes get pieces altered to look more current. Like hemming or cutting pants and jeans to an ankle crop length. Bring in the waist of baby doll dresses to make a fit and flare dress. (Or using atge suspender clips with elastic to bring in waist at back). I did purchase new sandals and booties to a more current look. I'd like to learn several languages. Russian, Japanese, Portuguese, German, Farsi. Already know Spanish.

Thank you Leonie for a great video but a word of caution about shoe sizes. In my early 40s I suddenly had a lot of pain in one of my big toes, lost a nail, etc. Went to a podiatrist who told me it's very common to need a bigger shoe size from mid-life onwards because the arches in your feet fall, so you become more flat-footed. I was already almost flat-footed so it was a big shock to go from a size 4 (37 in Europe) to a size 5 and even 5 and a half (38+). I had a beautiful collection of size 4 shoes that it broke my heart to have to give away to charity shops. I later found out this problem is very common. I have gradually invested in size 5 shoes but I still miss some of my beautiful and irreplaceable size 4. Our feet are so important, it's tempting to squeeze them into narrow, pointy, fashionable shoes but feet can get hideously deformed for life if you're not careful. I now also go barefoot around the house and garden and wear silicon toe spreaders to avoid bunions and all these really help. At 57 my feet look healthy and beautiful, I wear a lot of square and round toe shoes and boots, it's hard to find beautifully designed, foot-healthy footwear that doesn't look frumpy but I keep trying. The latest Miu Miu-inspired platform heels with a square toe look amazing and I bought an excellent and much more inexpensive pair from Marks & Spencer''s in the UK that look just as good and are brilliant quality, link here, also available in metallic www.marksandspencer.com/suede-ankle-strap-platform-square-toe-heels/p/clp60567708?color=BLACK&prevPage=srp#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r3c3

It seem like lately everything I order is way too big, even though I always use the size chart and my recent measurements. I think this is the effect of: US vanity sizing and the oversized trend. Brands don’t say when garments are cut oversized, it’s really frustrating to have to so many exchanges. I worry about my environmental impact from all the packing materials I’m receiving by online shopping. I recycle what I can, paper and cardboard, but an exchange doubles the consumption of these, mostly plastic, materials. I received a coat and a blazer lately, and both came in boxes one could pack a microwave in and other items have 3 or 4 nested plastic bags. The record I’ve received is an incredible 7 nested plastic bags for one item, from Amazon, of course. It seemed to have been resold many times between wholesalers and retailers before ending up there.

Black is a good color for young women and doesn't always work for older ones. When you are over 50, be careful with black because it shows all imperfections of your face, even with makeup. Love your shows and today I can say you look sad and older in this black shirt. I think black to the neck is not your color. Try lower cut around the neck.
