Thanks for your video I have the same problem on my Kia Sportage. When the air conditioning is on, the engine cooling water is very hot. I will test the electric fan and also the fan clutch (sorry for my bad english)
50sKid thank you for your videos.. I have a little question for you.. maybe with all the experience on e46.. what would you think is the problem.. my 320i sounds like a vacum cleaner when I accelerate the car.. really loud... and sometimes the sound goes off and it sounds normal... my question is if that is related to the fan clutch.. I bought one from autozone so I don't know if that causes that vacum cleaner sound.. the other day it sounded great and sometimes it keeps sounding like a vacum cleaner when accelerating... so I would aprecciate your advice...
would be nice to know brand. some have issues with a replacement fan that is always locked. I just purchase an 02 and man she screams at 5k RPM. It never unlocks. Robs I bet 15HP and at least 4 MPG. Also If not leaking many clutches can be "tuned" to lock up properly again. Ive also ran into "stuck" shafts on the bi-metal actuator. bi-metal works but shaft is sticky, lightly lube, break free, work back n fourth a few times without changing the bi-metals set tension... lile new.
It is important to allow the head pressure to build up to where the fan is requested. U didn't allow it to run long enough. That fan will cycle according to bead pressure
Which fan are you talking about, the electric or the manual? If you were talking about the electric, every electric fan will always turn on when the a/c is turned on. If you were talking about the manual fan, it is engaged by heat as I demonstrated. I actually went for an extended test drive (30 mins) in 100 degree heat after replacing the electric fan. It was overheating on the freeway quite a bit, particularly when I hit traffic! After replacement, everything was fine. I'm not sure what you meant by "head pressure".
+50sKid. I am sorry. Many of the cars I have worked on cycle the condenser electric fan based on AC high pressure. Thank u. Most Honda, Toyotas r that way.
Right, but I tested the power going to the fan and we had power at the harness but the fan was not working, even after putting power directly to it. Pretty definitive, don't you think?
Thanks for your video

Appreciate the video, but man do I with you showed how to unplug that front fan. Maybe I'm being dumb, but I can't figure out how it unplugs.

+50sKid yes! Keep up the great work!!
my sportage dont have spark. coil new, crank sensor new.. but while crank it its sound like not too straight.. its cause fire off?
50sKid Does the manual fan spin all the time? Or does it only start to move once the car/clutch gets up to temperature?
You mentioned this was a customer's car. Is this your main job or are auto repairs just a side job?
Nah I was just trying to sound cool like ScannerDanner. This is my little sister's car.
+50sKid Hahaha nice!
:)
My problem with my Kia is the fan runs all the time, with a brand new relay
Noisy fan clutch.
