- Maina Pokhari Ghatana - Incident Disgrace
In the early noon of 9th May 2004, on the mountainous highway near Maina Pokhari, a public bus heading to Kathmandu from Jiri was caught in the crossfire of army troupes and Maoist guerillas. Within a quarter of an hour, eight innocent Nepali lost their lives. The army and the Maoist suffered losses too.
When the press flashed image of a surviving grandmother holding 20-day-old grandchild, more emotions broke loose. Amrit was also disheartened. Soon, he travelled to the incident site.
The heavy air of a terrible loss and a grim ambience of a disgraceful act. He all captured one by one, talking with villagers, survivors and helpless eyewitnesses. Instead of chords, Amrit remained surrounded by silence.
Out of this painful contemplation of Maina Pokhari incident has come 'Ghatana' in a blend of narrative folk art of the wandering Gandharvas - the Nepali troubadours, fused to Rock Ballad. It is a portrait and a condemning of such 'Incident Disgrace' that has hardly stopped to cease in Nepal and elsewhere.

६१ साल वैशाख २७ गतेको मध्यान्ह दोलखाको सुन्दर पहाडी राजमार्गमा अकस्मात चित्कारहरु गुञ्जिएको थियो। मैनापोखरी भनिने त्यस ठाउँमा जिरीबाट काठमाडौँका निम्ति हिंडेका यात्रु बस एक्कासी सेना र माओवादीको दोहोरो गोलिबारीको शिकार बन्न पुगे। पौने घण्टा नबित्दै त्यहाँ सेना र माओवादीका लाशहरु त छरिए नै, आठ जना निर्दोष नेपालीले पनि ज्यान गुमाउन पुगे ।
घटना पछि बाँचेकी एउटा बज्यै र २० दिनकी नातिनीको तस्वीर पत्रिकामा छापियो। धेरैका धैर्यका बाँधहरु भत्किय। तिनै मध्येका एक थिए अमृत। उनी लगत्तै घटनास्थल पुगे। वातावरणमा विभत्सता आलै थियो। उनले सबै दृष्यलाई एक पछि अर्को गर्दै कैद गरे, गाउँलेहरुसँग कुरा गरे, बाँचेकाहरुलाई सोधे र निरिह प्रत्यक्षदर्शीहरुलाई कोट्याए। धुनहरु बजिरहने मन वरपर अकस्मात निरन्तरको शुन्यता छायो। त्यही भोगाइको अभिव्यक्तिहरु मैनापोखरी गीत बन्न पुगेको छ । मनमा लागेका चोटलाई शब्दले कथेर गाउँ गाउँ सारंगी रेट्दै हिंड्ने, गाइने दाइहरुको भाकामा आधारित यो गीतले यतिबेला आफ्नै दाजुभाइबाट मारिएको नेपालीको विडम्वना सुनाएको छ।

when they failed to deliver the Constitution within the mandate.
For others, they knew it was all a facade from the very beginning.
The elderly folks used to say it back then, " Nothing will change, nothing will happen. Things will get more worst".
It seems, age gives you wisdom and how those "Nothing will change" by the then elders, are hauntingly true today for Nepal.

I love it how the story is depicted in this song. the phases that builds up the story. Been the fan of nepathya since i don't know when. my dad used to be fan of nepathya when he was young. i still vaguely remember nepathya's older song blasting in cassette players in home. because of this the voice of amrit sir has always been a childhood nostalgia for me. in love with amrit sir's dedication for peace.
