I think the best part about teaching in a college would be that you actually get to teach when you're in the classroom. Teaching in a high school, sometimes 90% of your time in the classroom is management of behaviors. It's exhausting and spiritually draining.
This is so true! It applies at the elementary school level as well. The classroom management aspect of the job is pervasive and exhausting. It’s also not particularly fulfilling, at least not for me. I’m not a “bossy” person by nature…
If you can teach at public school at the AP level you can still enjoy the subject area as well as have more mature students. The compensation is usually better and employment is more secure.
Here is my experience, nothing was given to me. Important dates also not given to me. Me also getting in trouble for stupid things like not having a calendar. Also me getting in trouble for giving out a open book exam. Also my boss not liking me and writing up fake reviews about me.
Do you try to motivate your students? Or motivate the math? Eg the point of eigenvalues and eigenvectors is to be able to diagonalize Ie most people hate math or don’t know/understand how to use it
I try. It's not always easy to make concept relevant, but I do my best to explain where we're going with things and how they could (potentially) relate to students live's.
Hi Bri I would like to be a college professor at a community college and a university I am planning to work on my master's in Media Studies work a couple years in the Multimedia industry, and then work as a communication professor. Hopefully my dreams come true I will be happy until then.
Do you have a master's or a PhD? I'm currently pursuing a master's in Biomedical Sciences and want to get into community college teaching, which I know often hire those with masters degrees. I currently teach at a trade college, but want to transition into the public community college realm.
The classes have all three of those components. I'd say more test heavy, as that is roughly 70-75% of the overall grade. So far I've taught pre-algebra, elementary algebra, college algebra/statistics, and pre-calc.

what are the education requirements to become a college math teacher. I can't seem to get a straight answer from the colleges I've looked at.

How is tutoring different than teaching?
this is starting to sound a lot like high school . . .
Hi @BriTheMathGuy,
What tips would you give to those who want to better their chances of getting a full-time position?
Also @BriTheMathGuy, are your classes written HW heavy, project heavy, or test heavy? What courses have you thought so far?
The classes have all three of those components. I'd say more test heavy, as that is roughly 70-75% of the overall grade. So far I've taught pre-algebra, elementary algebra, college algebra/statistics, and pre-calc.
Do i need a Phd degree to become a community college instructor or Masters degree is enough for me to qualify?
Depends on the school/position. I teach at community college with just a Masters :)
@@BriTheMathGuy how long did it take to get the masters ? google is saying upwards of 8 years which is absolutely daunting to me
@@loomingshiny9910 4 years for Bachelors + 2 more years for Masters. (my experience) Good luck!
what resources are you given?
@BriTheMathGuy Had you knew about all of the training requirements, what would you have done differently?
Do you mandate students to address you by your last name (Prof.LastName/Mr.LastName)?
Nope. I introduce myself with my full name and say you can call me Brian. Honestly I personally prefer a more relaxed environment.
Desolate land i inhabit.
Not sure what that means but thank you for watching and have a great day!
@@BriTheMathGuy I believe this was a refrence to me being the only comment that wasn't you. I guess it was a cheeky way to say, "First!"
