this makes me so happy about wanting to be a professor
Yay! So happy you enjoyed this video!
I’m graduating with my masters in December and planning on pursuing a PhD in Spanish Linguistics and it’s so refreshing seeing Black college professors. Also, you have such a sweet demeanor and I love your activities with the flash cards! You’ve gained a new subscriber!
Thank you so much!!! And thank you for subscribing! I'm so excited for the journey you have ahead! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
@@theacademicsociety You're very welcome!! and thanks!!
I’m applying soon to graduate school and considering being a psychology professor in the future. This makes me so excited lol!! Glad I stumbled upon your channel :)
This is so exciting! I'm glad you found me channel too!
Thats so great I too want to be a psychology professor
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Gavin Blaze instablaster ;)
it's always cool to understand the perspective of the prof as an undergrad... also I think the lighting in the second clip without the ring light is way more flattering!
Thanks!
My life's dream career is a college professor. I am so happy I came across your channel. Please keep making videos because there are not a lot of these videos and you are so bubbly!!!
That's awesome! So glad that you found my channel! I love being a college lecturer!
Your video is fantastic. Although I just completed my first semester as an Adjunct Instructor, I survived and would have benefited from your video. For the fall semester, I have four classes and plan to incorporate some of your tips. Thank you and keep smiling!
Hi Toyin! I discovered your videos recently and I think they are awesome! I have an on campus interview this week for my dream faculty position and I’m incredibly excited, but also so nervous!
That is amazing!! My biggest tip is to be yourself and show interest in the school and community!
Happy new semester! I always get nervous on the first day, even when I teach online classes 😋
Thank you!!! And same! I taught an online class last semester and I got so nervous during my first live study hall! I was nervous the technology would fail me! Lol! Enjoy your semester as well!
Thank you for this wonderful video. So human and so impressive. You are amazingly organized :)
Thanks so much! I thrive on structure and organization! Lol! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this video!
Oh, I always feel nervous the first day of class! Thank you for sharing this video! I'm sure your students are so blessed to have a teacher like you!
Thanks so much!!! I think that the nerves are a good thing! It forces you to pay attention and do a good job!
Thanks for the tips especially on the index card strategy. ;-)
Love the video 💜
Thank you!!!
I like how you love what you do, i know what i want in my work, and i think i might like it this way, you are content and happy about what you are doing that's a success in itself, like you are the definition of success for me, right now
Thank you so much! I really do love my job! It can be challenging at times but I feel completely fulfilled by it!
Happy new semester! Do you have a routine you do to prepare for a class before teaching it? A video about that would be awesome!
That's a great idea! I do have a routine!
I am so happy I found your video. I'm having an online interview tomorrow as a lecturer. Wish me luck

Wow! Random question, is that your real hair? ^_^ I mean, rebond or just iron?
I want to teach at the college level one day I noticed most colleges only require a masters in that specific field. I would be changing careers, so do you think if I have the masters to meet the qualifications that will be enough to possibly get hired or will it probably hinder me that I’ve never been a college teacher before ? I’ve only been a substitute teacher, and a pre-K teacher
Different fields require different levels of education for college instruction. It's typical that a master's or phd is required to teach in higher education. However, things may be slightly different in an education department. I could forsee experience being valued in that field. You'll have to talk with someone in the area you are looking to teach in
Can you answer a question for me if someone in 7th grade doesn't do three months of their homework and did not attend zoom for 3 months, but they do well for the rest of the 7th-grade year and 8th grade and get a high GPA high SAT score, and ACT score and does well in high school does that mean they can get into NYU or other good colleges even though in 7th grade they didn't do three months of their homework and did not attend zoom for 3 months (asking for my brother)
In my experience, once you get to the next level, you previous achievements aren't as relevant. So when you are applying for college, you only send in your high school transcripts. When you are applying for grad school, you only send in your college transcripts, and when you are applying for jobs in academia, you only send in your grad school transcripts. So, I would say that your 7th grade GPA won't be looked at when applying for college. However, the study skills and work ethic you have grows from elementary and middle school. So it's important to start good study/school habits now. Hope that helps!
@@theacademicsociety Okay thanks
I'm so glad that I came across your channel. I am a new college instructor and placement coordinator and was thinking of starting my own channel in relation to this, as I have done a different channel before. How do you gain confidence to go about filming at work? I think that will be my biggest challenge going forward.
That's a tricky one! I'm almost never filming when others are around! Lol! But when I have people get super excited about possibly being on my RUclips channel and are happy to help out. But I love that you are going to start a channel! I say go for it!
I am going for a nursing degree and being a teacher was also a career I wanted. So I heard I can get my masters degree in the future and become a professor!
That's so great! Go for it!
@@theacademicsociety Thank you!💗
Literally my current life path! I'm a Nursing Educator chasing my first college level role!
Could you talk about income? Are you comfortably living with your salary?
I'm definitely comfortable with my salary. Cost of living isn't very high where I am. I have a video about salaries that you can check out: ruclips.net/video/abfSiBRDU60/видео.html
Hi ma'am. Im a Bs nursing graduate with an MA in Biology education and Phd in Biology education. Do I qualify to teach college level students with these credentials? Or should I align my bachelors degree to my graduate degrees to qualify?
In my experience, the field that you get your PhD in is what you would teach in. But I'm sure it depends on the field.
How long did it take ypu to become a professor like how long did it take to get all your degrees
4 years in undergrad and 5 years in grad school; I went straight to a PhD program
I am currently creating a demo lesson for my first college professor interview and nerves are eating my ass uppppp😧😰😨😱
You got this! My recommendation would be to pretend that everyone in the audience is a student
Today 02/11/2020 in the morning I went to a place just for register and I didn't know the class started 2 weeks ago the person in charge asked me if i wanted to start today (actually i was one hour late ) and from outaide I saw the class full I Said to myself Fuck it I'm here already and went in LOL I was very friendly and it was fun obviously I was a little nervous but during the class I relaxed and started introducing myself to some classmates everybody was nice :) Sometimes things happen suddenly but I like it.
Going to be a business marketing.
That's awesome!
Is it hard being a pre calculus professor
Not at all! I love it!
Where do you teach?
i dont think shes allowed or comfortable to say
She teaches at Brown University as math professor. Pretty impressive not gonna lie
You seem like such a considerate professor. Where do you teach?
Thank you! I teach many different math classes but mostly precalculus, calculus, and applied linear algebra.
Hi! I just started work as a teaching Professor of American Politics at Boston college. Have any tips
That's so awesome! I have a playlist with my teaching tips: ruclips.net/p/PL3psXV6jr7CEKe1SLGa_L7fkhhCn0DseC
On the first day of class, do you ask students to do introductions and state fun facts about themselves or anything like that? I know this can be a bit corny to do, but I was curious as to what most higher ed profs do to get to know their students on the first day of classes.
I do a discovery learning activity that gets them to work together to determine the distance formula. The active learning technique I use is called Crowd Crumple or Snowball where I get them to toss paper around the room. The students tend to enjoy it!
Repent and receive life from Christ and be saved in Jesus mighty name amen.
