You helped me get my dream job as a tenure-track faculty member. Thank you is not a strong enough word. I think of you every time I listen to my theme song, too. 🙏
Hello, thank you so much for your webinars; saw this last Summer and I was able to get into a CC as an adjunct in engineering with your tips. Thank you so much.
In many European countries, it is common practice to include a photo of yourself on your resume. When I lived there, I always included mine. Now I no longer do.
Hi Renee, I got an interview for a dream position and your video was extremely useful. Its my first time doing an interview ever and I was super stressed. This video has made me more confident! Wish for me to get this job!
Thank u..I’m interested in working in community college. I’ve been teaching elementary school grades 2-5 for 26 years. Please let me know if I can apply in Orange County CA to motivate our youth to be teachers.
I was asked to interview for a full time instructor position at a CC with only 3 days to prepare! The prompt is very broad ("Discuss the practical application of criminal law"). How do you go from there? I was only given 10 minutes?? I am so afraid of giving them something they don't want. I am tailoring it towards practitioners because that is what the dept. primarily churns out
The Problem with Ms. Marshall's train of thought, speaks volumes on the fact that she has no clue on what it means to struggle. If someone has applied with an older Letter of recommendation, the date is not what should speak to you, it is the content of the recommendation. One cannot expect to have Deans and CEO's write multiple letters of recommendations to each individuals that is requiring the same of them. Its foolishness. The whole concept of a cover letter and references are also absolute nonsense. A person's resume should be the only factor on which one should decide if an interview is warranted or not.
I am currently a junior earning a Bachelor's in Multimedia Journalism expected to graduate in 2025 I am currently 25 years old, I would love to be a college professor teaching in a junior college and a university, I am planning to earn a master's in Media Studies in the future. Hopefully I become a college professor, until then I will be happy, but for now just keep on working and never give up even if I suffere a heart attack and a stroke, the road for my goals is long and hard with boundries along the way, but I can be a college professor, I will not rest until my goals is complete. I love and enjoy teaching in the communication department it will be a pleasure being a communication professor.
I’m also an adjunct for Comm! I’m here because a full time position opened up and I’m going in for a second interview! I wish you a successful journey!
@@cristalm.4756 Thanks I still need minimum 10 years left for my dream come true, I will like to teach communication in a community college and a university I will like to earn a master's I am not capable of a Ph.d, it is my dream job working as a college professor.
I won't send thank you notes. I've had many offers and I never sent a thank you note. Guess what? The three times I sent a thank you note, I didn't get an offer.
Dear Renee, thanks for such a great video and tips. I'm from Venezuela, where I worked as a researcher and professor for almost 30 years. My family and I had to escape from the political and humanitarian situation there and arrived in another Latin American Country, where I pursued a PhD thanks to a scholarship from OAS. However, I'll be honest, I'm totally tired of Latin America and want to move to USA or Canada. It's a good idea to mention our situation in the cover letter? Everybody I've consulted says "no". Thanks a lot!
What if you have an issue with your hands? I hate shaking hands because it really hurts when ppl squeeze my hand just because they want to prove how firmly they can squeeze your hand. I have joint issues. Oh...and germs lol
Hi Renee. Are you still available for consultation ? I have, what is probably the biggest interview of my life , on Tuesday and would appreciate anything you can help with. I have watched this video several times over and learn something each time. Hoping you can help!!
Two typos is enough to disqualify a candidate? Being a role model to students has very little to do with your proofreading. Leadership, empathy, and pedagogy are not well correlated to typos. Also, judging resumes based on whether they have a picture is unfair. This is an issue of inequity. Professionalism comes in many forms. To think there is a particular mold of style that is required for professors, is teaching students they must also conform.
Caring about diversity does not just mean accepting different skin colors, it means accepting the backgrounds of your candidates. Who they are is an asset, not an impediment.
Lady, who are you trying to fool? If you don’t know an insider, you could have the skills of a genius and still won’t have a chance. If you are black you won’t be hired!
Dear Renee, I listened to your video prior to my interview and I was able to land an adjunct job !! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!

Pictures on the resume may be required in some cultures. In Japan, a photo is often required.

Do you think it is okay to email department heads or deans after you apply for a job using the college's website? Thank you.
Absolutely! Make sure to send a Thank you after every interview.
How likely is it that you will get the interview questions ahead of time?
You will get them 10-15 minutes prior to the interview.
Are you still willing to help people prep for interviews?
