- A lot of people have asked me what I do to stay warm in my van when I am doing vanlife in colder locations or at night here in the desert so I thought I would share some of my tips and tricks and hopefully, it helps someone else!

Everyone should have a sleeping bag EN/ISO rated to the coldest temperature they might possibly encounter. Any heater can fail, car not start, and batteries for electric heating devices run out. Then what? External heat sources are for comfort only. Relying on them for survival is risky.
Oh yes, I should have mentioned that about my sleeping bag. Good point. I do have a very warm sleeping bag and I use my stuff with it.

Pet heating pads are good and low wattage less 10 watts

some good tips here. we winter camp a lot in tents. boil water in a nalgene bottle and put it in your sleeping bag and it stays warm all night. also, you have more blood vessels in your groin area which will warm up your body more than any other area.
Oh wow!! Thank you Jay! I didn't know that about my groin area! That makes sense though. I have tried the hot water in a bottle a few times but prefer my soft squishy water bottle because I am a side sleeper and I can shove it between my feet and it forms to my feet vs the bottle which doesn't feel so comfy that way HAHAH :)
I'm from upstate NY now in Arizona desert. I think my problem will be more staying cool this summer then warm in winter here!👍
I'm in Arizona right now too. I was shocked when I got here how cold it is at night!
I'm now staying with my boyfriend in his apartment when I am not camping so I am not having to worry about how to stay warm or how to cool down as much - though once it gets hot here, I am sure I will be experimenting.
I got a little rechargeable fan for when I was in WA during the heatwave last year but my van is already too hot just sitting in the sun all day while I work inside the coffee shop or library - I am pretty sure if I wasn't in a relationship and was living in my van I would end up driving up and summering in cooler states for summer.
I'm loving Arizona weather this winter though. Haven't ever gone kayaking in February in a tank top and shorts before LOL!
@@thetravelingdork Lol! Absolutely. I've been blessed to find a really great shaded spot on BLM land! I'll see how the weather gets in the coming weeks if I have to retreat to higher elevations on forestry land or not! Be safe, take care!🏜️

@@thetravelingdork I'm in pacacho, between Phoenix and Tucson. I just actually had a run in with a 4 foot rattlesnake! 🐍. Ya gotta be very careful out here!😳
staying cool in warm weather is infinitely more challenging than staying warm in a cold climate.
I’m from Washington state also. And it is still really cold here.
