Psy has been incredibly famous in South Korea for more than a decade, even prior to Gagnam Style, and has dozens of songs. You may only know Gangnam Style because it blew up the most of all his tracks in the US, but he's been releasing music in South Korea for a long time both before & after that. This track is from his first full album release in several years. The MV was directed by the same person who directs many of BTS's amazing MVs, and it is of course so funny, but it also holds a clever meaning, as well - Psy was the first Korean to get close to topping the Billboard charts when Gangnam Style went #2, but BTS has now surpassed him and gone so much further, getting 6+ #1s on the Hot 100 and becoming the #1 artist worldwide. So in the MV there's a great little nod to that "competition" as Suga "knocks out" the version of Psy who is wearing his suit from the Gangnam Style MV. And after that Psy and Suga smile at the camera like they are both in on the joke and dance together, having fun, while Psy is wearing purple - the symbolic color of BTS & ARMY. You also didn't look at the lyrics, but Suga is clapping back in his rap at the ones who dissed him in the past, teasing them that he's going to "spank them like naughty kids" and telling them to shut up and just have fun together. So yeah, it's a funny and fun song and MV, and it's great that you're enjoying it & it brightened your day, but I'd encourage you to try to avoid an attitude of dismissiveness toward the artists themselves just because you personally are ignorant of their other work. There's a lot of great music out there to explore if you can keep an open mind - and you'll be able to enjoy it even more if you turn on the CC English subs!
And infamous.. Psy has had a number of songs banned in South Korea. Even though he often frames his songs as parodies, many are actual criticisms of some of the social and cultural issues that S. Korea has faced over the years. His explosion into the international music scene was not planned or expected. The big studios in S. Korea have been trying to do that for decades. Psy's uniqueness and non-standard K-pop style I think is what really created the success of Gangnam Style. A lot of this is also symbolic of Psy moving past the success of Gangnam Style. Psy and BTS have a lot in common about how their careers started and they both use a lot of symbiology in their music.
Suga has a reputation of being a genius producer and songwriter (every song he produced sounds completely different from the other, for multiple different artists with completely opposite styles, and he can adapt so easily, if you listen to this, then eight by IU, then Stay alive by Jungkook, Daechwita by Agust D, and Autumn Leaves by BTS, and the epic ring tone he produced for SAMSUNG (literally the most majestic and epic phone ring tone I have ever heard) which are all songs he produced, you would not think that it's the same producer who worked on them. The man can produce for literally anyone, that's why he is so demanded as a producer esp in Korea. There's also the fact that having his name here makes it an instant hit cuz he is from bts, but him as a producer makes the quality Hit.
Loved seeing PSY and Suga work together. If you didn't know Suga was only supposed to produce the song but slowly PSY lured him to actually feature on the song and then actually be in the music video and dance with him. It's kind of like how he joined BTS. When he joined Bighit (BTS music label) they told him he wouldn't need to dance and eventually they changed everything and was like ya you're going to have to dance now. Actually PSY has had plenty of music since Gangnam Style. He had a song called Gentleman that was released a year after Gangnam Style that also did well. But he's had several releases since then too. His last major song/album was released in 2017 though. PSY recently talked about BTS success and said it's nice to see them having more staying power as Korean artists in the west because he felt like a 1 hit wonder in the west even though he was still very popular in South Korea, people would call him Gangnam Style instead of his actual name. Also in South Korea every time an artist releases new music no matter how long it's been since their last release it's called a comeback. We think of a comeback a bit differently thinking it's someone who releases new music after a long absence or someone whose last release wasn't as successful so if their next release is a lot more successful we call it a comeback. Also PSY has his own music label too in South Korea called P Nation
Thanks for letting me know I’ll have to go look up the other music he just has not been on my radar. It just goes to show you how much music is really out there
Psy also has 'Daddy' and 'Gentleman' which weren't as popular here in North America.... but he has a whole bunch of songs and not just these four (including Gangnam Style and That That)
You would probably really enjoy watching the video of PSY giving a speech at the Oxford Union about himself and the story behind his dance style. (He was educated at Boston University and Berkley School of Music...is now 44, married, 2 children). Since Gangnam Style, he has gone on to start his own entertainment company/label called PNatiion, Yes, he has a huge catalog and is legendary in S. Korea. I'm certain Suga was quite honored that PSY accepted this song and gave Suga the 'opportunity' to perform with him (he was tricked into it). His live concerts are amazing....you should check out some of the clips of the live shows. Yesterday, he did a live show at the Sungkyunkwan University.....the videos are on youtube....you can see how beloved he is! ARMY grandma
Its just not featuring, its produced by SUGA. Suga has won many awards for producing songs. He has produced songs for BTS,IU, Coldplay, Halsey,Epik High, Samsung
Your laugh is so infectious. Psy is huge in Korea and has many huge hits but this is his first album in 5 years. He started his own label (PNation) and has a reputation for being one of the absolute best for how well he treats his artists and runs things. I love these two and Suga gets mad props for producing the hot song. It’s already spawned multiple tiktoc trends including fake slap fights.
Love this song .. the dancing & suga sing wow 🥰🔥.. they are dwo legend so amazingly 🤩 suga super genius incredibile masterpiece 🔥🥰💕😍💜💜 love suga so much 💜💜💜

It makes us cry, laugh, dance, chill, share experiences with family and friends. It helps fight sadness. Love this video with cheesy dance, funny acting. cowboys in american MV shows sexual content . This one shows funny and unique one. Just my opinion.
Though a lot of Psy's songs are parodies, there's messages within the music videos that will go over your head if you just watch it mindlessly. It's great you can watch and simply enjoy it as a catchy summer song that can make you laugh, smile and brighten up your day.😇. This is Psy's comeback in about 5 years since his last album and this is the 10th year anniversary of Gangnam Style. The music video is about Psy moving on from his Gangnam Style character as noted in his blue velvet suit and coming out to the world to a new beginning and living life to the fullest after the pandemic. The car speeding across the dancer is cgi enhanced so no one was in danger. The choreo is not as easy as it looks since there's a lot of fast footwork and rhythmic movements and balance required and plus the professional dancers make it look so easy. Though you can learn it and dance the choreo out of step if you just want to have fun and the music moves you enough.😉. For a 44 yr old guy like Psy dancing the choreo and keeping up with the pro dancers who are most likely half of his age in this music video is very impressive. You know this man hasn't aged a bit since Gangnam Style 20 years ago😮. Suga also killed it and how many rappers, well established producer can you name that can dance like this💜💜
Fun fact: Suga made the beat and composed this song with Psy in mind. He texted him about the song and Psy convinced Suga to produce, then feature and dance in this MV!
Produced doesn’t mean only making beats, he chose the instruments in the song and arranged them. This song has very costly instruments according to DJ Jino
@@rikhmjustsomeguywithmousta4971 I'm a fan of DJ Jino too and watched his review of the song as well. I always appreciate his honest reactions and insights. :)
From the very beginng to the end, you are maintaining the stance, "Sorry, I'm reacing to it. Sorry, i like it" Why is it "Sorry"? Because this song is not serious and just funny? It sounds like that this song doesn't deserve any appreciation. Psy is not just a funny guy who sings a silly song. He is an talented producer and amazing performer on the stage.
I've seen a few reactions to kpop videos where people get so shocked when they like it. It's because the songs are in Korean that people look at it weird and that's unfortunate.
You're out of the loop. He has an album release also. And yes, BTS's anthology album is being released on June 10, 2022, with a single. Album is called - PROOF - and the single is called - YET TO COME: The Most Beautiful Moment.
Yup. I'm definitely in and out of the loop. I listen to over 200 songs a day but my job in music also prevents me from being able to fully focus in on any one artist so if they aren't showing up in the top 10 daily, I probably don't see them.
"Gangnam Style" was in no way PSY's first song. PSY has been releasing music since 2001 and "Gangnam Style" was released in 2012. That's over 20's of being a successful artist in an incredibly difficult industry. He also recently started is own music label. And those dances are not that easy... did you not see that footwork?
@@rikhmjustsomeguywithmousta4971 Since he's been in the business over 20 years... 5 years still seems pretty recent to me. I knew that was why he hadn't released an album in 5 years, to focus on starting the label.

It seems like your mind had been made up from the beginning that this was going to be like the Gangnam style video. You were laughing at parts that weren't laughable. Some people look at Psy as a laughable character because of Gangnam style. This was a great video with great choreography. Yeah there were some parts that were funny but you laughed through the whole video which was irritating. Plus you missed the reference to his song Gangnam style when his suit matched the vehicle.
One thing really bothers me about your review, and its not you in particular but a lot of Americans in radio in general. You take this music as nothing but just a funny video. Its time to take music from SK seriously because its 100x better than any american artist in the past 15 years. American music simply isnt good anymore.
I don’t think she’s calling it funny because of that. She’s reacted and reviewed other South Korean songs. Psy just happens to make very comedic songs and music videos. One of these comedic songs of his is Gangnam Style. Though it doubles as a social critique, the song was made to poke fun at the “new-money” elites for their classism and profligacy.
