  • Easy fix:
If you watch this video you will see there is a brass bowl below the carburetor. It is accessible between the tire and frame. There are (2) 10mm bolts on this brass bowl. Drain all the gas from the tank with a siphon back into a gas container. Unscrew the bolt that's off center to empty the gas out off the brass bowl. If no fuel comes out of the bowl that is a good sign that the jet is clogged! Make sure to catch that in a separate cup. Then unscrew the center bolt and the brass bowl will come off with a black rubber o-ring. Next use a small flat head screwdriver to unscrew the brass screw from the center shaft, see this video on the detached carburetor. When you unscrew this you will have 2 brass pieces total. Clean both as shown in this video. Then put the long brass jet back in the center hole. Hold it in place as you screw the small brass screw back in place. Then reattached the brass bowl with the black rubber o-ring and be sure both bolts are tight. Refill gas and your unit should start.

How in the world could you not give this video a thumbs up??? This man is a genius!!! This video saved me hundreds of dollars and having to shovel almost a foot of snow. My blower had been in storage for almost two years. Major snow storm was coming and snow blower would not start. Followed this video step by step and it worked!!! I do recommend removing the wheel first to allow extra space when removing the center bolt if you don't have a small screwdriver. Also, be prepared to catch both pieces when removing the center bolt. I almost lost the first piece because it came out unexpectant and I couldn't find it when it hit the ground. Thanks again!!!

As numerous others have posted already -Thank You- my storm 2460 wouldn’t start, watched numerous videos on RUclips, finally saw and watched yours. Pulled the jet out, it was partially clogged. Used a needle to unplug. Reinstalled. Fired right up. Before when I would prime it it didn’t seem like it was getting fuel. After I did that the first pump of the primer I could tell a difference. Thank you again so much

One more thing. I did as other viewers did and tipped machine on its front auger while working on it. Also removed the one tire on carb side to allow better access so as to apply more leverage on the screw driver in turning that tough little brass screw out. Tapping lightly with hammer at end of driver as you suggested made the difference in getting it out turning LEFT, counter clockwise.

My son in law had let his 2410 snow blower set for a few seasons due to lack of snow and he didn't drain out the old gas. He went to start it last season when we had lots of snow and it wouldn't start. Unit was essentially brand new. I said I would help him get it going this season and found this great video on cleaning the carburetor jet. The video is well done and the process outlined works. I just finished the cleaning process as outlined in the video and the unit started up on the first try. A few tips I want to reinforce from other commenters. 1. Placing the snow blower 90 degrees from normal position to rest on the auger blade casing is a good tip. That really makes getting to the jet screw and removal of the jet nozzle much easier. You can now see into that center float guide barrel. 2. The jet nozzle didn't fall down or out for me. Using a unwound paper clip as suggested by others allowed me to get the end of the clip into the nozzle hole and gently coax the nozzle out. That worked great too. Cleaned the nozzle holes with a needle and carb cleaner, they were gummed up, and reinstalled. Reinstallation with the unit resting on the auger blade casing made that step a breeze, horizontal install vs vertical. Added clean gas, cleaned the spark plug and the unit started right up. Great video and commenter tips! I learned some more since my last post. Discussed the gunk problem with Troy Bilt tech support since this emulsion tube blocking happens very quickly. They advised the issue is the ethanol gas and recommended me to use non ethanol gas such as Trufuel, found it sold at Lowes. Also advised to not let fuel in the system for more than 30 days. Last advice was to run the system dry when done snow blowing and then drain the carburetor bowl. Sounds like a lot but that's what it may take to prevent future carb gunk from forming.

    A few things...
First of all. Thank you for posting this, it saved my ass today after the nor'easter we had last night!
Secondly. for anyone whom has the misfortune of owning one of these Troy Bilt, Craftsman, MTD etc... plan on this being a part of your yearly maintenance/storage regimen.
When removing the jet not just any flathead will fit. The head will need to be narrow, and the blade can't be very thick. Hollow ground screwdrivers would work best.
I used a needle to clean the holes in the jet, but you can use a pipe cleaner by carefully threading it through the center of the jet to remove larger debris.
My parents very graciously bought this for Christmas 3 years ago along with an extended "warranty". I was able to use it 3 or for times that season and put it away until the following year. I use the same gas for all of my equipment (93 octane only!). Second year, first storm, go to fire it up and nothing... Had the warranty so back to Lowes it went. I conveniently got it back the next spring... They said it was bad gas, the same gas that I had been using in my mower, trimmer etc... Never a problem with them. No snow worth blowing last year. Something told me I should prep it for this season, but I didn't. Went to fire it up today, and nothing. It would only run on ether. I knew it was the carb, and a few clicks later I found your video. I took it apart per your instructions, cleaned and reassembled. Still needed ether to get it going, and it wouldn't stay running unless I left it fully choked, and even then it ran pig rich and was surging. So I know I have to pull the carb and thoroughly douche it out. I have never in my life had this many issues with a small engine, and I have worked on hundreds of them. Design flaw, maybe? I know the ethanol content in current gas is what is causing it to gum up, but seriously when you use the same fuel on older equipment year after year w/o issue is certainly infuriating! I am damn close to putting a for sale sign on it and buying a better unit, or at least one with a better motor i.e. honda, kohler, anything that doesn't share this OHV pos. Rant over lol, thank you again for the info. It definitely got me out of a bind this afternoon, but I know I am going to need to pull it apart again and really clean it well.
    -Chris-

This is just what I needed, thanks! For what it's worth, this is easier to do if the snowblower is tipped forward 90 degrees and resting on the housing around the auger. Two bolts, a screwdriver, and some carb cleaner were all I needed to get running again. No more ethanol blend for me.

    • @MikeJones-rk1un
      @MikeJones-rk1un 3 года назад

Will you be adding dry gas to keep the fuel lines from freezing? Which is the same as ethanol. The ethanol absorbs water but ethanol gas comes with an unknown amount of water already in it. Ethanol gas is mostly a problem with carbs that have a diaphragm in them as it degrades the them and causes them to fail. Your snowblower gas is gravity fed and does not have a diaphragm. Not saying ethanol in gas is a good thing.

This year when it wouldn't start, to save time and work, I turned the machine on its side so the fuel wouldn't run, took off the brass dome, and then put the little tube on a can of starter fluid (like the tube with compressed air or WD40 spray) put it in the shaft into the brass screw that holds the jet piece, and gave it a good blast. Put it back together and set it upright and it fired right up.

This actually worked for me. However, I ran into additional issues. In order to remove the jet, I had to remove a wheel. This caused other issues, and all of a sudden the wheels wouldn’t move. So I had to remove the cover from the drive shaft. A piece had fallen out. I was able to put everything back together, and it finally started AND moved. However, now it leaks gas when I prime. I’m sure this is a pretty simple fix though. Probably just an issue with the gasket. Inany case, this WORKED on my 2140!!

Thank you for the video; it was very helpful. Let me add a couple things. Without having any tubing I wondered how to siphon the gas, but then it dawned on me that I could use a turkey baster. The first couple of screwdrivers that I used to remove the brass screw in the shaft did not work. What did work was to use a medium size (whatever that means!) screwdriver along with lying the snowblower on its side. There is a little hole in the shaft and I could actually see the screw turning. Problem solved. Well, not really because when I placed the snowblower upright again the brass shaft did not fall out. I gave up and put it all back together again. But I watched another video on this problem in which the guy who made the video said that it took him 30 minutes to get the brass shaft out. So I'm not the only one who struggled with this. Rather than just try harder, I put some gas in the tank along with some Techron that I happened to have lying around. The reasoning was that maybe the Techron would dissolve away the goop holding the brass cylinder in the shaft. After standing overnight, I repeated the whole process of removing the screw in the shaft. This time when I put the snowblower in the upright position the brass screw and the brass cylinder fell right out. I used a very fine sewing needle to clean the holes in the brass cylinder even though they didn't appear to be plugged up to the naked eye. After rinsing the cylinder with a little Techron, I put it all back together and it started on the first pull. Many thanks to you cdiilio.

I thank you for posting this excellent quality video! My Storm 2665 ran fine last winter (used twice) but wouldn't start this year. The bowl looked and wiped clean. I had to remove the wheel to access the brass jet. I could see light through the holes in the jet, but cleaned them out anyway and sprayed everything with carb cleaner, including up into the shaft. Electric start got it going on first push of the button. Would draw user attention to orientation of the brass fuel jet...goes in exactly as you have shown when lying the parts out on the rag. I had a difficult time removing it, and failed to pay attention to the orientation when it came out...had to check the video again. Thanks again!

Awesome Video! Bought this snowblower last yr and got no snow. Stabilized the fuel in the tank but still managed to give me problems while I was trying to wake it up from storage to prep for winter. Sure enough the jet was clogged. Easy fix

Thank you! I think I have found the problem. I tried cleaning the carb bowl and idle jet but wasn't aware of this one. I'm getting fuel out of the drain now, but will only start with ether. I am going to try this procedure next and I bet it will run!

Just wanted to comment again, this absolutely works!!! Follow instructions closely. Make sure you put everything back together as he shows. I have a 2140, and had to remove a wheel in order to remove the jet (not enough room). Be very careful when removing the wheel, as there is a drive shaft with parts that can easily fall out (look up “high-pro key”). The key dropped out, and you can’t put it back in without removing the drive housing. It was simple enough when I was able to figure it out, but took a while. I lost this little key several times, but was thankfully able to recover it.
My point is, anyone can do this, but make sure you have the proper tools and don’t be careless like I was.

Thank you so much for the info. I am usually not one to fix small engines (my husband usually tackles them) but since I was the one that left the gas in from last season I figured I should give it a shot. Your video saved me lots of money...thank you!

Dude thank you so much. I knew it wasn't getting fuel and was pissed off figuring I had to take the carb off. Took bowl off and could see gummy residue. Took the needle out and could see 1 hole completely plugged. Ran a needle through them, put it back together and literally first pull it fired right up

    • @laboflife4036

pretty much same here. thank you for sharing this experience cdiilio. you explained it as simply as can be and i pretty much went through the same motions. i found that there was little gummy ball like sand grains or coucous. cleaned the bowl and unscrewed the brass screw and cleaned out the jet. felt lazy to go get the carburator cleaner and put everything back together. Oh yeah i had to remove the wheel in order to get a good position to catch all the fuel.
first pull and the engine fired. considering that i had spent probably two hours the days before doing all sorts of attempts to get it running, i felt really good hearing the engine roar.
      thanks again.

Great video. One additional tip, to make it easier to get the brass screw and jet out, it's best to tilt the blower onto it's front side (so the auger front is resting on the ground).
