Excellent video guys. Also enjoy watching you mess with cars. Martin is brilliant at explaining what's going on and showing what's been done on and off camera. Thanks so much looking forward to the next one. 👍👍
Thank you! I replaced my clutch successfully, your video was very helpfull. My old clutch was not bad, but the slave cylinder was leaking. My advice to anyone doing this, is lower your subframe first, then prying off lower ball joints is much easier. Thanks again!
What a job fellas! Excellent video as usual. You have big hearts to do all that. My 2001 Ghia needs doing, and is mint, so thinking about paying to get it done. May I say what a great Dad you are Martin, love the relationship you both have, very funny. Looking forward to part three… 🤞😀
One knackered clutch, I bet the owner slipped it every time they drove it , good job it doesn’t have a DMF on the petrol engine, that would have been big money to replace, it’s good you have your dad to help you Gary , he’s a good man
As someone else has mentioned, I would personally replace the DMF while it’s all stripped down. On my Mondeo it was the DMF that tended to fail before the clutch wearing out.
I would replace the clutch, pressure plate AND the throw-out bearing and even have the flywheel checked out and turned if need be. Why you ask? Because the amount of work involved would make me replace all those parts so I don't have to worry about repeating that work down the road. But that is just me and how I do things... Thumbs Up
Hey guys..! i'll like your videos and can learn about the mondeo ...your are sympathetic and down to earth...waiting for part 3...Best regards from Austria 👍
Cracking video Martin, garry great work you got to the bottom of the problem .brave lads I would never tackle a gearbox . I very much enjoyed the video can't wait for part three.
Fixing your car”hey dad….” Well you don’t have a dog and bark yourself 😂 , good video lads 👍, my first job Tuesday morning new gearbox and clutch on a corsa 🤦♂️👍🇬🇧
Happy Birthday Gaz What a present a great video showing the job in full I have never seen a clutch full to bits like that someone must have been banging the pedal down hard to break it Phil in stoke
Wow that clutch was in a mess, difficult job doing clutches on the floor like you did there I’ve done many like that 😩 I have never done a Mondeo though. I’ll look forward to seeing it all go back together 🙂👍
At my garage we insist any vehicle with a DMF has it replaced whenever a new clutch is fitted. Only on the very rarest of occasions do we let this rule go.
@@ProjectMan we brought the rule in after a couple of decent dmfs gave up under the strain of a new clutch. Should have said in first post how good this video is. Good explanations right through - should really help guide a novice. And you did it on the floor too , good job lads.
Looks like the last owner was riding the clutch everytime they used it because it looks like it was changed once before probably always had there foot resting on the pedal
Good job on finding out the issue never known a clutch to fail with low miles but least it will be sorted do you have subframe alinement tool to align subframe once it goes back together there should be a couple of holes at rear to aline it worth there weight in gold if it is to use once😅😅😅
Kevin Albert *The clutch guru* make those changes so easy.I mean,if you seen how he does it,you be like *yeah i can do that* Nice to see how it's done DIY on driveway with basic tools.I hope you can get away without a flywheel. Im curious, what symptoms you had before failure.
Could this have happened because of previous owner trying to bump start it to much when it had a duff ECU 🤔 plus I'm surprised it still drove like that. Good video 👍
question, does the clutch from another engine fit? 2.0i 2.5v6? both of these engines have the MTX75 gearbox, the clutch is 240mm and 23 teeth, just like the ST220 5-speed, also the MTX75 gearbox code ,I don't know, it can't be bought and it's not made for the st220 5-speed, would it work with the clutch from the 2.0i or 2.5 v6? thanks
Do you think that's been done before as it's an Luk clutch unless ford use that make , I read online was a bad batch at one point ? Good job as usual master and pupil 😉Happy Birthday Gary 🎂🍺
hello brother i need your idea i have mondeo mk3 diesel duratorque di engine with 5 speed manual transmission .I would like to change transmission with st220 6 speed manual transmission will it fit or need to do some modification
Just paid $5K to have this done. Clutch no good, (dual-mass flywheel), gearbox rooted. Car just turned 262000km. 1 owner. What else to do? Drives like new, and, for a 2.0 petrol, 800km on a tank of gas on the expressway, on cruise, can't be all bad.
Kevin-Albert Williams does about 3 clutches a day on his own. He has a RUclips channel, you may pick up some tips off him. He is not as entertaining as you two. He is mobile and works through all weathers. Not the best way to earn a living if you ask me. Keep all the vids. coming.
Great team work Martin & Garry this is one of the best explained gearbox removal I have seen
Great work guys,I really enjoy watching you two fixing a rather complex job. Best half an hour.👍👍
Well done guys.

Part 3 can't and happy birthday projectman and always Martin gets his hands dirty.

it would be a good idea to renew the dual mass flywheel as they go very easy after so many 1000s of miles nice job there guys
It would be even better to ditch it altogether for a SM Flywheel & Clutch. The others are Fkn Useless
Hi Martin and Gary , great video , great job finding that badly worn clutch plates , look forward to the refit video 😄👍👍
One knackered clutch, I bet the owner slipped it every time they drove it , good job it doesn’t have a DMF on the petrol engine, that would have been big money to replace, it’s good you have your dad to help you Gary , he’s a good man
Cheers Phil 👍🏻
Carnt fault what ever Martin does he’s a real father figure.
I’ll say it again wish I had a dad like Martin when I was growing up!
Cheers Peter 👍🏻
Must admit Martin, you're a better man than me scrabbling about under the car. If I got down there I'd never get up again mate!
Someone has 100% been riding the clutch
Happy birthday Gary, all the best.
Cheers bud 👍🏻
Thank you Martin and Gary love watching your car repairs watching from South Africa
Thank you 👍🏻
As someone else has mentioned, I would personally replace the DMF while it’s all stripped down. On my Mondeo it was the DMF that tended to fail before the clutch wearing out.
@@chrismills9346 Yes, good point. It was diesel so probably puts more torque through the DMF than the petrol version.
At least it waited until the weather got better, excellent video guys.

That sealey battery ratchet is the best tool u never knew u needed till u get 1 😂
Bloody hell that looked like a pain in the arse to get to. Well done you two
nicely presented

Enjoyed watching looking forward to the next part

Cheers Ali 👍🏻
Cracking video Martin, garry great work you got to the bottom of the problem .brave lads I would never tackle a gearbox . I very much enjoyed the video can't wait for part three.

Unbelievable !!! :). great video
Fixing your car”hey dad….” Well you don’t have a dog and bark yourself 😂 , good video lads 👍, my first job Tuesday morning new gearbox and clutch on a corsa 🤦♂️👍🇬🇧
👍🏻👍🏻
A little tip if you undo the subframe bolts before you remove the bottom ball joints you find it easier to remove them 😉
👍🏻👍🏻
Happy Birthday Gaz

Cheers Colin
Just to wish you a happy birthday 🎂🎈 Gary
Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video footage 👍
Great video guys! I wouldn’t want to tackle all those nuts, bolts and connections, I’m sure I’d end up with some left over after installation!!🙈🙈
😂😂
Gary you’re lucky to have a great dad like Martin
👍🏻👍🏻
Yep your right wish he was my dad he can turn his hand to anything I would have learnt a lot!
Nice work

Looks like the last owner was riding the clutch everytime they used it because it looks like it was changed once before probably always had there foot resting on the pedal
Last owner was 87 years old had it 14 years 👍🏻👍🏻

👍👍
Hi guys.....If you look from 22.25 onwards, you can see the strands of the clutch at the 10 oclock position around the edge.
I noticed that when editing well spotted 👍🏻👍🏻
Kevin Albert *The clutch guru* make those changes so easy.I mean,if you seen how he does it,you be like *yeah i can do that*
Nice to see how it's done DIY on driveway with basic tools.I hope you can get away without a flywheel.

No symptoms just pulled up clutch pedal went spongy and that was it.
Could this have happened because of previous owner trying to bump start it to much when it had a duff ECU 🤔 plus I'm surprised it still drove like that. Good video 👍
Cheers mick will never know 👍🏻
Retroprojectrestoreman
👊🏻👊🏻
Very good instructional video, do you have the kit to re-align the subframe?
No it will be going garage 👍🏻
Do you need to lock the vehicle in neural or in a gear to remove gearbox?
Just put it in neutral.

Hi do you know if it is the same process with the 2.5 v6? Great video btw
I'm not sure sorry
@@ProjectMan Well only one way to find out
hello brother i need your idea i have mondeo mk3 diesel duratorque di engine with 5 speed manual transmission .I would like to change transmission with st220 6 speed manual transmission will it fit or need to do some modification
Should be fairly straightforward 👍🏻
Just paid $5K to have this done.
Clutch no good, (dual-mass flywheel), gearbox rooted.
Car just turned 262000km.
1 owner.
What else to do?
Drives like new, and, for a 2.0 petrol, 800km on a tank of gas on the expressway, on cruise, can't be all bad.
Do you have to change the flywheel when replacing the clutch, been quoted £1,204 for clutch, flywheel & CSC
Depends on the state of the flywheel.
Only 37k miles yet you seem to be having to do a lot of work on it?
Parts seize up when not being used
look at u getting ur old man to do all the work on ur own channel haha,im joking btw lol.
🤙🤙
Kevin-Albert Williams does about 3 clutches a day on his own. He has a RUclips channel, you may pick up some tips off him. He is not as entertaining as you two. He is mobile and works through all weathers. Not the best way to earn a living if you ask me. Keep all the vids. coming.
Yer we do watch a bit of Kevin 👍🏻
Luk clutches seem to fail far to much 😠
who was giving it yee haa big wheelspin from every junction lol these dual mass flywheels cant take it guys made of tissue paper lol
I thought it would be the clutch at fault ,seen it many times before.even worse than this one!!!!
