I always found Neji's death really uninspiring. I mean yes he sacrificed himself so that Hinata and Naruto could be together and all that, but when you really think about it, his death just kind of routed him back to Square 1. Throughout the whole series, Neji was part of the Side Branch, meant to only live in service of the Main Branch. He had some great development, becoming his own person and being respected as such but in the end, he still sacrificed himself for the Main Branch's heiress. Yeah, I figured that he saved Hinata as his cousin and not as the Main Branch but that still doesn't prove that he didn't die for the Main Branch. The same thing goes for his father, Hizashi. Neji just did exactly what his father did all those years ago. Wasn't the point to Naruto uppercutting him in the jaw to make him understand to live as his own person? I don't know, it really just really didn't make sense to me. Definitely plot holes in that scene. Ditto. 😭 On one hand I get why Kishimoto made that choice. Neji was someone that Naruto had really inspired/changed and therefore had formed a strong bond of respect with. Therefore, that bond being severed by death had a deep effect on Naruto and opened his eyes to the cost of being a Shinobi. Of course he had a deep connection with all of his comrades, but with Neji it hit different because of their similarities and how they overcame their differences. But there are better ways to bring characters together! 😭 IMO Hiashi choosing to die for them would have advanced NaruHina AND would have inspired a HUGE change in the Hyuga, knowing that a main branch member was willing to die for someone in a side branch as family. But nooo. I was also kinda hoping Neji would have at least hooked up with Tenten behind the scenes and given us a new cute lil Hyuga for the Boruto series, like Kurenai and Asuma gave us Mirai, but no. D: sorry for rantig on a 4 year old comment, I've been re-watching some old Naruto stuff which is flooding old AMVs in my suggested. XD
