It's a great intermediate surf break. I was there for two weeks and this was the typical surf every day. This was as crowded as it ever got. Most days had less than half of the number of surfers in this video.
Have done it. Tends to be fat and foamy. Some OK reforms some days, and better with a bit more west in it to stand the left up, and bowl it in front of you. RH river mouth very occasionally gets hollow. It is smaller than the well known south breaks. Yes the odd bull shark in the river water can be 'interesting'. One attack that I know of. Don't surf in the river mouth when it is raining.
Looks like a nice spot, but bull sharks are just a big nope. My local spots on Reunion Island are now infested with them and all activities in the sea are now prohibited because of this. They took a lot of lives on such a small island :(. I hope they'll stay chill in Balian. Check out this documentary about it ruclips.net/video/4NLifoApTMc/видео.html
I really would love to learn how to surf! It looks so liberating and thrilling. I got to watch some surfers when I was in Sri Lanka. It certainly looks like hard work! I like the information that you give in this video :)
Ella- surfing is truly an amazing art form- just look at these surfers. Learning to surf really changes a person's life. It is not easy to learn and it takes many hours of dedication, but totally worth the effort in the long run. I don't want you to be discouraged so it's good to know that realistically, it takes at least 100 hours in the water to begin riding small green waves with some degree of control. Therefore, only those who live near surf-able waves are able to learn and progress in a reasonable time frame. Even a two week vacation to Bali or Hawaii or Australia won't be enough, especially if you only do that once per year. I tried that method and it just didn't work, at least for me. Five years into surfing, I still hand't mastered any of the basic skills even though I had vacationed to very good surf spots over those five years. It wasn't until I moved to the coast that now I can finally surf like some of the people in this video. The past two years, I've averaged 4-5 hours of surfing per week and spent two solid weeks surfing in Bali every day last October plus a trip down the California coast surfing at least one per day, often twice. My point is, you have to spend a lot of time in the water. I often tell people that you need a fire in your belly in order to learn to surf. The ocean will beat you back multiple times and you'll need some grit to keep pushing forward. But just wait, you'll be sitting out there beyond the breakers on your longboard at sunset one day with dolphins leaping on the horizon, laughing with your new friends, just blown away by how beautiful it all is and you're part of it. That's what surfing is all about. Anyway, good luck and if you stick with it, you can definitely learn and enjoy this sport. Aloha.
that beach looks awesome! cool shots of the waves and the surfers. looks scary to surf with those high waves but would definitely try it in the future. thanks for sharing!
It's a rocky, sand beach and a reef break. I surfed it on a day that was fairly big and the wave was breaking at a spot even further out than in this video. There were three good sections. There are places to rent boards.
Hey, maybe I missed this information but was looking out for information on surfing classes and how much to save if I do decide to learn how to surf in Bali
This video is just about the surf break at Balian. It's a few hours from where most the surf schools so it's mostly a destination for experienced surfers. I took the word "Guide" out of the title since it may mean something different to non-surfers than it does to surfers.
Beautiful ambient music, it's a real peaceful buzz watching the different wave sections from further out to the inside and interesting surf set up
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful shots of the surfers I could watch this all day. Only thing better would be if I was in the water surfing!

Wow, those are some crazy waves! Surfing is on our bucket list, maybe we should learn in Bali!
Thanks for watching.
Bali is a great place to learn. You should also try Batu Bolong Beach near Canngu. It is quite the scene- good for beginners. Can be crowded.

You definitely don't surf.

YOUR VIDEOS ARE FREAKIN AWESOME!! Keep up the quality content!
Thanks Kevin. I'll keep it up.
Beware of bull sharks here. They come feed on the dirty river mouth especially after rainy season!
watching Bali's surfbreaks and wondering why they let pass so many nice waves
Looks like the mushiest wave ever
It`s good for surfers and as an area to stay as well
Looks like geek peak to me brah . . . 🏄♂️
Most sharky spot on the island bull sharks feeding from the river mouth from all the animals and food waste washed down the river.
Thanks for letting us know.
Yep there's been around 6 bites in the past few years. Mostly in the wet season when the water is dirty.
from coming from Australia im used to it....
I’m here right now and it’s been crazy rainy last week and there’s so much debris it makes me nervous about sharks for sure
Que olas tan bonitas!!
Thanks for watching.
Can you rent a surf board so you don't have to bring your own board? Is this a sand or reef break?

Cool; I'd love to surf there
Bull sharks love to take a tourist foot at this spot
Reminds me of a tropical Hobsons minus the sharks.
