Smithfield what's going on

Smithfield is seeing great changes. The meat market has gone and with it centuries of tradition and a way of life. London and Smithfield are synonymous with each other. Its London with a special London identity.
Smithfield is just off High Holborn and Newgate Street and slightly north and west of St Pauls. That's all changing! From 2026 this will be where the Museum of London resides with an emphasis on art and fashion to rival the South Bank. For years we've seen porters, traders and drivers working in the dark of the night to supply us all with meat. 24 hour pubs and cafes have grown up around this unique special place.

I'm looking forward to visiting the museum of London in its new home. However it's a shame one of the more modern market buildings such as the poultry market wasn't kept for commerce

Good point. Lets hope all the market people enjoy Dagenham Dock. Place will be different but that's the history of London.

I think Baz the main market has gone but there's a few businesses still running, but it looked very quiet to me, with little signs of anything happening. I believe any business remaining have got to be gone 2028.

-3/4 is still open! only the poultry section is closed. - I was taking some night pics when a guy outside a pub said "why am I filming Borough Market?! ha piss head!
