Just stumbled across your channel and this is the video that made me subscribe. As a fellow creator it’s really hard to feel ok posting slower, more thoughtful content like this. But you’re doing a great job at it
It’s been six months since I’ve posted anything. I took a job that completely leeched me of all my time and creativity. I’m recently unemployed again but frankly I’m far better spirits since being let go. And frankly, I can’t wait to start making videos again. Because it’s just so much fun.
Man what a beautiful way to think about seasonality and creative work. Especially when coming back from a gap, you do feel guilty almost if there's nothing big to show. I'll have to be aware of this especially after the Christmas break. Thanks dude ♥️
Somewhere between 6 to 9 times and between 4 hours and 20 minutes. These guys are great, have to love Colorado. Stoked to see you back on here with a new video. The reasons you left are reasons I don’t create. Too worried what I want to create doesn’t fit my niche. At just over 420 subs I shouldn’t let that stop me. 🤣 Also overthinking that my quality isn’t as good as Jake Frew and others when in reality that also doesn’t matter. Also enjoy the breaks, they are important.
We are in that seasonal moment now Jake and are planning our next chapter on YT. It’s both refreshing and scary all at once. Sooo love seeing you again man, and sharing this very timely video. You’re like a Jedi master 😎🤙🏼
Great video and thanks for tip #2 That's something I've been struggling with a lot lately. There's another RUclipsr in my area & we're almost the same age (old guys) and we make similar videos and were about even with subscribers a few months ago and then his channel started blowing up and all his videos now get thousands of views and mine only get a couple hundred and now I'm always checking his channel out and second guessing mine. 😔
Had a very weird feeling in my gut when you were sitting on the edge of that cliff looking at the waterfall ._. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love every single one of your videos! It feels like you're on the same wavelength as me and share similar thoughts. The art you create is so inspiring and gives me back some motivation to go out and do something creative in times where I don't feel like doing anything at all. Sending love and hugs from Germany. Thank you for sharing your work and thoughts with us!
My reasons are : - Time, i'm overwork a my dayjob... nothing left creativitly. - The few time off, i watch youtube... and the more i don't make videos, the more i'm saying that isn't worth it since no or little feedback. - Hopefuly, my other job (my own company) got way more feedback and reward than youtube. And it keeps me creating for clients. RUclipsrs always says to keep making videos and someday the 'pay off' will come. The problem with that is that's not rewarding enough at a small scale (ie when your beginning) to keep creating. So if you have years that your willing to loose then yes, youtube is a good place because the reward may never come.
Would be interesting having to ride / not ride to the seasons, here in Australia the MTB conditions are relatively the same all year long, dusty for 3 seasons then a little bit damp in winter. I only see seasonality on my road bike and gravel bike, I end up riding less in winter because I avoid riding in the rain and it gets a pretty cold. But I couldn't imagine riding MTB multiple times a week! I thought I rode heaps by riding once a week, trails are 15 minutes from my house but the best trails are 40 mins away so pretty close but I do enough bike maintenance as is! I couldn't imagine if I sped up the wear 6x ! Ah crap im comparing myself to people 😉great tips by the way and I agree.
dude is just so real and down to earth. so refreshing. you say what everyone else is thinking when it comes to the hustle culture of content creating, GIVE YOUR SELF PERMISSION TO TAKE A BREAK! from one jake to another, thank you!
Jake, I love your approach to YT and this definitely resonated with me. For us, It's been 5 months since we've posted anything on YT. I've been held back by the same things you've mentioned here. Trend chasing for sure. In regards to #2, something that's been helpful, "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today". Not my quote but I think it's important to focus on self-development and try to block out what everyone else is doing better or what you wish you were doing. Over-thinking and over-consumption looking for inspiration can stop me from creating as well, rather than just producing and learning by doing instead. Hope to see another video from you soon! Cheers 🍻 P.S. Hope you got the windshield fixed. 🤬 Always hated it when that happened.
Would you recommend the r5 over the Sony fx3 for documentary work? I love canon colors& usability over Sony. What lens would you recommend? I also somewhat vlog. Great Content
Such an amazing video, very inspiring! I love to see how authentic you are and anyone can be! Like you said, don't compare yourself with others. This is a big trap for me and funnily enough I always compare myself with big youtubers... I really loved this video Jake, thank you for creating this 🙏🏼🤍
I'm not creating videos for more than 6 months and it sucks. Want to do but too much distracted by my computer science degree and now whenever I open priemere pro, I'm blank. It's like I don't know how to make videos anymore. I'm planning to start making after my exams (20 Novemeber)
OMG thank you!!! This was so needed - and such a beautiful vid! I really have problems with the lapse of time posting. I work full-time as an editor and am a care-taker for my Mom. So trying to pump out a vid every week is theoretically possible - but it would break me in half. And I have the hardest time coming to terms with that. I get crushed over and over again when I'm only putting up a vid once a month. It makes me feel like such a loser. And I don't want to feel that way.
I haven't been posting for 10 months now. I feel like I've lost and missed so much but through this time I was really enjoying myself not having to worry about what or when my next video was gonna be. I've been spending more time gaming with friends but I think its comfortable to start back again
I’m only a minute in. And love this man. Made me laugh with your intro. I’m in the same boat. Made over 25 videos in the last 6 weeks and I’m burned out . 😱 but I appreciate vids like this! Thank you
Jake is the only creator that make videos that relates to everyone of us. His content is very original and his works really inspire me alot to be myself and never compare with anyone. Keep creating bro and God bless you!
Comparison to others, anxiety about bothering other people with the camera, and generally worrying about looking silly. I enjoy creating things and that is enough. Not everyone needs to like it or see it for it to be a worthwhile process. I enjoy your videos and they've helped me post a little more this year. Thanks and keep it up.
Have you watched Chernobyl? When you were taking a picture and said “not great, not bad” reminded me of when Dyatlov, the chief engineer of the Nuclear Power plant, was trying to measure the radiation but maxes out the dosimeter and says “not great, not terrible” lol.
The seasonality aspect is such a good point! Actually, that's the reason why I like working in more fields - bcs I can stop doing one thing and focus on the other.
Good to see ya (really cool shots with diagonal angle. Trick with log, when the camera was bouncing, was nice too). Sometimes, when I don't want to create anything, I thinking that everything interesting is already made, and there is no space and no need to add something. But fortunelly, I often realize, that even if it's not innovative, maybe I will find something between the repatitions or interpretations. But in pure creation is probably better to do not thing, just act. Greetings from Europe!
Dude, thanks man! I just came back from an amazing trip in Mexico and have so much footage that I want to put together, but have been fighting it for some reason. Your vid was right on time for me. Kudos!
Always a great message in each video. Jake, if you are reading this. My 6 year old just asked me if you were okay after he saw you sitting on that rock by the waterfall. Lol.
reaaly nice talk, specially what you said about coming back after some time with no creative things and how this should be like others things, i´ve been feeling exactly the way you said about, feeling the pressure to compensate the time off, thnk you for this
I needed this speech shit man you are too right I ve been following trends and not really creating I focus too much on posting frequency rather than making stuff that I actually like and put in no matter how much work it takes
Thanks for the video, I think you hit the reason why my craving for adventure is so high and I’m always disappointed in myself, I’m always comparing myself to RUclipsrs who are always doing adventures and living life to what I believe to be the fullest.
So stoked that you uploaded a new video, the point with the seasonal breaks is spot on! (the rest of the video as well of course :D) I usually don't write comments but I have to say that you are a huge inspiration to me and that I love every video I've watched so far. And I'm so happy that I met you at the Downhill World Cup in Lenzerheide, you can't imagine how much that surprised me. It was so nice to be able to chat with you for a few minutes and I really hope that we will meet again one day and can talk to each other for a little longer. Please never stop creating these videos, keep up the amazing work! :)
Always look forward to your videos and that you do not do like a lot of people and just post all the time. For me for the question at the end of the video I get stuck in the same old pattern of where I go. LOVE your work, Jake!!
Seasonality is also why I love mountain biking and snowboarding. I also take breaks from filming. These are all great points. I’ve stopped worrying about punching out a video every “x” timeframe and I just casually make my videos now at a pace that works for me. May be why I don’t have a massively huge following but that’s not why I do it so it doesn’t matter at the end of the day.
I love the comparison to riding your bike after a season of being away. That’s a super normal thing we all understand but would never compare to creative work, haha. Good reminders. Glad you’re uploading but also extra glad that you’re doing so after living and recharging elsewhere!
Not posted myself for over 3 months.. you always give me so much inspiration to create. I'm getting my camera out today!! Cheers man. So good to have you back 👊🏻🔥
Love your thoughts and videos! You're a great storyteller both verbally and visually. Thanks for your great work, happy to have you back! /Stina & Matti
I'd say my strongest creative hang-up is my lack of time. It's hard to feel creative in a rush and life seems to find a way to keep me busy all the time... I really enjoyed the visuals of this video as well as the advice!
Love your videos Jake. Someone who is learning to shoot videos, using the software and now starting a new job, those are great things to keep on my mind when I pick up my camera.
You are one of the very select few creators whose videos are really sensible and make me feel happy or give some food for thought.
I feel the same. I always feel inspired just by seeing that Jake has posted something. Jake has made a Pavlovian dog out me.
Same! The more I watch the bigger channels the more it becomes disingenuous, to me.
Just stumbled across your channel and this is the video that made me subscribe. As a fellow creator it’s really hard to feel ok posting slower, more thoughtful content like this. But you’re doing a great job at it
I'm here since ~2 years, and I'm slowly realizing this channel never disappoints me. Thank you Jake
youre the man
It’s been six months since I’ve posted anything. I took a job that completely leeched me of all my time and creativity. I’m recently unemployed again but frankly I’m far better spirits since being let go. And frankly, I can’t wait to start making videos again. Because it’s just so much fun.
Yes!! Have fun getting back into it! That excitement is the best feeling ever.
@@JakeFrew Totally! Thanks for the inspiration! And if you're hiring, let me know lol.
Damn dude wish we connected when you were up in Aspen. Next time!
First like and first comment.. Aye!! Hope you are doing well Jake!
Man what a beautiful way to think about seasonality and creative work. Especially when coming back from a gap, you do feel guilty almost if there's nothing big to show. I'll have to be aware of this especially after the Christmas break. Thanks dude ♥️

Ummm…Jake, the 2nd thing that’s going to stop you from creating is falling off that cliff (4:04). Yikes! And then the bear 🐻! 😳😳😳
Great video and thanks for tip #2 That's something I've been struggling with a lot lately. Creator teaching me how to not create. You have my attention.
Your works are really inspiring Jake. Really love the message here.
I'm taking 2 months off from creating videos and already loving it.
I've already got all 3 tips on lock 💪😤 #seeyounever
I hope you do keep creating Jake, You are one of the few YT makers that inspired me to hit record and pick up my camera again.
Good to see you back! Your videos always inspire me in some way so thank you!
Had a very weird feeling in my gut when you were sitting on the edge of that cliff looking at the waterfall ._.

As someone who's a little burnt out making other people's videos, I definitely feel this. Thank you and welcome back!
Post more videos about mountainbike!!!! Greetins from brazil !!! I love your videos and your perspective/photographys.
Glad your back buddy 🤘🏽

Great storytelling as always. I love the shots of the yellow tree leaves. I could NEVER hang over that cliff... CRAZY!!!
I love the N64 controllers :)! the little details I love it

Hi Jake !
I’m Maxime from Belgium.
Thank you so much for your words…
You are clairvoyant 😜
Such an amazing video, very inspiring! I love to see how authentic you are and anyone can be! Like you said, don't compare yourself with others. This is a big trap for me and funnily enough I always compare myself with big youtubers... I really loved this video Jake, thank you for creating this 🙏🏼🤍

Damn. This hit hard. Definitely subbing for more of the gems you'll undoubtedly drop. Be happy my friend. Be safe.
Just comparing my work to yours feeling super jealous. But you really put a nice perspective on things. Thanks pal ✌️
Yes Jake! Hitting home with this stuff man couldn't agree more.
OMG thank you!!! This was so needed - and such a beautiful vid! I really have problems with the lapse of time posting. I work full-time as an editor and am a care-taker for my Mom. Hell. YEAH! Thanks for uploading!
The garden analogy - you can’t endless harvest a garden. There’s a time to grow and a time to harvest. Inspiring video, as always!
The seasonality aspect is such a good point! Actually, that's the reason why I like working in more fields - bcs I can stop doing one thing and focus on the other.
I can definitely identify with you Jake, you're such an inspiration. 🇧🇷

Thanks Jake, to get your perspective is always refreshing and inspiring!
This was so incredibly helpful at this point in my journey! Thanks so much man!
yeah, i hate people expect alot when you do a comeback. its not easy and its taking alot from the creators
i’m for sure stealing (borrowing) this idea. Thanks!
Feeeel this bro! 🫠 btw Canon photography always feels better ha felt that.
Haha facts! Glad I'm not the only one. Thanks Ryan!!
Always a great message in each video. Jake, if you are reading this. My 6 year old just asked me if you were okay after he saw you sitting on that rock by the waterfall. Lol.
3rd point really stuck out to me. Thanks for this Jake! 🤙🏼

I love your videos dude. As a recent CO transplant (moved here last December), I hope to bump into you out in the mountains one day.
Love seeing you and your friends do your thing up on the mountains. Also this is exactly what I needed to hear right now.
love your videos Jake, great watching and good advice... thank you
Totally resonating with all three points mate. Thanks again for the inspo! 🖤
YEW! Always a great day when you post brother! 😁
What a timing :) Thank you for this mate, I really needed to hear somethings like this 🙃
I dont ever stop making videos. I have been getting side tracked by other things bringing in my money to support my video habit.
I needed this speech
shit man you are too right
I ve been following trends and not really creating
I focus too much on posting frequency rather than making stuff that I actually like and put in no matter how much work it takes
Loved that Video Jake! How is the Song at 7:18 called? It just fit so well!!
Authenticity shines through your vids. Also honesty about the creative process.
Thanks for the video, I think you hit the reason why my craving for adventure is so high and I’m always disappointed in myself, I’m always comparing myself to RUclipsrs who are always doing adventures and living life to what I believe to be the fullest.
Love this! Im in a bit of a rut myself and a big part of that is comparing myself to other creators and feeling my videos aren't good enough.
Dude I miss that fox vids. You killed it there
Glad to see you back to your own Jake video style
Thank you for the great video! also loved the imagery and everything :)
So stoked that you uploaded a new video, the point with the seasonal breaks is spot on! (the rest of the video as well of course :D)
I usually don't write comments but I have to say that you are a huge inspiration to me and that I love every video I've watched so far.

Really loved this video. The messages were great and awesome visuals.
Always look forward to your videos and that you do not do like a lot of people and just post all the time. For me for the question at the end of the video I get stuck in the same old pattern of where I go. LOVE your work, Jake!!
Thank you for the inspiration always 🙏🏽

That forest looks amazing man, silver birch in the autumn is such a vibe
Not posted myself for over 3 months.. you always give me so much inspiration to create. I'm getting my camera out today!! Cheers man. So good to have you back 👊🏻🔥
the seasonality of things is a real thing! I FEEL THAT
Jake, good to see another vid man! More content please! 🤣✌️
Love your thoughts and videos! You're a great storyteller both verbally and visually.
Thanks for your great work, happy to have you back! /Stina & Matti
Yes yes yes! seasonality. knocking the rust off. spot on :)
Missed you, glad you’re back, 😊
Missed you, glad you’re back, 😊
But I’m always supposed to learn, make repeat
3:58 what a view, colors and everything, this is crazy
Always enjoy your videos and your messages! Cheers
Always so happy to see an upload from you Jake 🙏🏼❤
I'd say my strongest creative hang-up is my lack of time. It's hard to feel creative in a rush and life seems to find a way to keep me busy all the time... I really enjoyed the visuals of this video as well as the advice!
Diagonal is the new vertical.... #cameraangles😂
I think this is one of the best videos you've done. Def. on my saved list.
beeen missing your vids ! thamks! :D
Love your videos Jake. Someone who is learning to shoot videos, using the software and now starting a new job, those are great things to keep on my mind when I pick up my camera.
Welcome back man! Glad to see you making content again!
Glad to have you back man! Great video as always
Hey dude welcome back🥰
This was just what I needed to hear! Thank you Jake.
dude that cliff/waterfall shot gave me so much anxiety. I come here to chill Jake.
haha!! my bad.
Love this video man. Stoked to see you back.
