Just picked one up yesterday for around $20. It was on sale and with a 20% off coupon, I got it. I have a good sized compressor so I think this will work just fine for what I need.
Yo, well done! The comedy blurbs... Nice touch! Thanks for the review. Spraying into a Wal-Mart box, using a bungie for spray painting! That's me ALL day long. Good quality work for the everyday man who's on a budget! That's how it's done!
Nice I use mine often made a nice blast cabinet for it. Pairs nice with powder coat sprayer kit. Even though I still use a rattle can. Powder is stronger. Good review.
Thanks for the video, I just bought a Sears sandblaster which looks similar at a yard sale for 20 bucks with a bunch of sand now all I need is a air compressor so I can try it out
Came over to this video because the other one had too much BS. Really helped me stay informed and entertained. Since it will take glass bead, it will qualify for ADA texturing according to local and state regulation.
I have a 20+ year old 4 gallon, 2 HP, 2.6 scfm at 90 psi Campbell Hausfeld compressor. At 50 psi it should be adequate to meet the 50 psi, 3.5 cfm minimum air requirement, yet when I tried it, no media would move through the blaster. The media was Harbor Freight's 80 grit glass bead same as you are using. I could see it lying in the air bleed hole at the exit from the container. After some thinking, I took the gun apart and found it was assembled wrong. The nozzle inside has a gasket and an O ring. The nozzle had been assembled and inserted backwards. The nozzle has small hole which should go towards the ceramic nozzle. That small hole is centered right above the media input. It is what creates the vacuum via the Venturi effect to pull the media up. When it was put in backwards, a large hole was over the media input which created almost no vacuum. It works fine now even with a small compressor.
Good review. I'm in the same boat as you, no room for a cabinet. I'll have to get one of these and maybe build something or just use it outside. That isn't candy, it's like Kool-aid, you have to mix it with water and drink it.
Bruce L. Thanks I appreciate it, there's RUclips vids of people making home made blast cabinets which I plan on doing .you should check them out. Lmao , next time I'll try to make some grape drank with it 👍😂
Grape Draaaaank !!!! My favourite ! What size air compressor do you recommend and is that an 3/8 " air line? Please tell some details of setting up the glass-blaster !!!! Can I use it to do the whole car including underneath to prepare the bottom for rust proofing?
Yes it's a 3/8 I think my tank is a 20 gal n it works fine the compressor just runs a lot so a bigger tank would be ideal. I suppose you could you it on a car but it would take forever
Can i use it to remove hard rust from big surface of metal like poles ,gates ,grill, etc and which compressor should i use for it? I don't look for something professional because i'll use it one time and stop. So i don't want to spend much money.
I have something to add to my wishlist. I never even considered using one before now. It's a good start for those of us who don't have a blast cabinet.👍
+Rob's Wrenches exactly, it's messy but a great alternative. Trust me ,I wanted a blast cabinet I just don't have the space for it . The good thing is if I do find space for a cabinet and didn't spend a lot of money on this one so it won't really feel like a waste of $.
curious...you had plugged up the piston bore...did you not want to clean that area as well or is it not ideal too? i would think it would get very dirty as well. but then again brake fluid in there so i guess maybe not to avoid any contamination to the fluid when its all put together again
Thank you, covered most of my questions...and an extra thnak you for keeping nit from being boring LOL I think Ill blow the $35 and grab one for myself....
Everytime I watch a video of these blasters no one talks about raising the blasting unit up high to let the gravity feed its way in it helps alot better that way.
I bought this model thinking it would be sufficient for stain and polyurethane removal from cabinets. The nozzle that comes with the blaster is too wide, so I purchased the 3/32 nozzles and the base is thinner, so the set screw dosen't hold it in place. Does anyone know the proper installation or additional parts to utilize the 3/32 nozzles?
This video is so underrated such a great review thank you very informative I didn't know that the different media is used for different applications I thought it's all just to get stuff off of whatever you're working on
I've been using sand blasters for a few years now, and it's a constantly switch from media to just air. Most of the time it's just air. This os why sand blasting is a slow process. You can try moving the container to a higher area than your spray gun so that gravity can help to feed the media
Stellar job, you should be a teacher or at least a professional product reviewer. I chuckled the whole time yet learned everything I need to know about getting this product, and I will now. +Thomas EXOVCDS it's a mess but I love it, im trying to come up with a simple DIY blast cabinet.good videos on YT of that. Actually I'm painting the bracket as well so that's 15hp👍💪
+Thomas EXOVCDS I was thinking the same color because these rear calipers are so tiny I was hoping the bracket matching would make the caliper look bigger lol. But a different color might look good... any pics of your calipers?
Hey, after blasting and hitting it with brake cleaner, how long did you wait to prime? I'm not sure if I followed right. Do you do anything after the brake cleaner, before Prime? Thanks
I see you’ve got a Thomas EXOVCDS sticker on your tool cabinet. I’m subbed to him and actually am watching your vid bc thinking about using one of these to help deal with the rust at the corners of the windows on my ‘89 Vanagon T3 T25 Transporter. I just want to be really thorough and not have to buy new rubber gaskets and do it all over again in a few years. Want to do it right and maybe use an epoxy primer or ? Anyway , thanks !
You can use white vinegar two or three gallons put it inside a 5 gallon bucket let it sit submerged overnight take it out the next day with a heavy stream of water wash it off wipe it then down with a clean Rag and then lightly oil it it'll be as good as new. You might have to get a toothbrush to get into hard-to-reach areas of the tools or other type of tools to get in there and scrub the crap out very efficient.
Great video. I have a 60 gallon compressor and I am hopeful this will work for me. I want to remove rust from horseshoes I do projects with. I am trying to cut back on the time I spend at the wire wheel getting rust off. I do not have room for a cabinet in my garage, but a very large back yard with about half covered with decomposed granite. Hopefully this unit will do the trick. Thanks for posting.
@@themechanic6117 saw in another video that crushed walnut shells are too coarse. Going to try a finer media. My air compressor is very large, I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem. Thoughts?
Ive never tried crushed walnuts so that may be a issue. Like i said mine doesnt spray media consistently either. Its more like on off on off with mine while holding the trigger
Bro, you should give powdercoating a shot, it's more durable than spray paint, plus all you need is the system, powder & an oven/heat gun to bake the powder 👌💯
I enjoyed the straight forward review with a touch of humor. Well balanced, thanks for the honest review.
No problem. Thanks for watching 👍I appreciate the comment
Basically what I was wanting to say - you showed basic use, including accessories and safety needs - plenty of lols in there too! Thanks!

Picking one up in the next few days for a go kart frame. I too noticed alot of people running a small pancake air tank.
Excellent lighthearted video; I use this tool to sandblast motorcycle rims. Works well.
Nice! Glad it worked for you

im gonna do the same paint, but im gonna add a tiny chrome or white acura emblem to it. !

Exactly the bigger the compressor the better it will work
What compressor would you recommend for this sandblaster?
The biggest one you can afford. These things use a ton of air
We don't have Harbor freight but we get an identical looking blaster here. Good to know it works, I need one. Cheers!

Blast media in the bore can be difficult to remove or mess up the sealing surface.

Can aluminum oxide 100g be used with this blaster?
hello, can you reuse the sand or glass ?
If you find a way to contain it yes you can reuse it. It tends to spray everywhere which is why i was using a box
@@themechanic6117 thanks my friend
I bought one today with the glass media, I want to blast off the rust inside a motorcycle gas tank, any recommendations
It might be difficult to clean the inside the tank.

I’m hunting for something to take the rust off of a utility trailer I’m re-doing.
Itll take you forever with a small unit like this
Is it possible to use this as a cheap Dry Ice Blaster? Would it clog up?

Do you think this kit could be used to sandblast a car frame?
This isn't made for that large scale of a job. It would take forever and cost you a ton in media
how long can you blast with tht size?
got one last year also use glass bead works pretty good
Hey, after blasting and hitting it with brake cleaner, how long did you wait to prime? I'm not sure if I followed right. Do you do anything after the brake cleaner, before Prime? Thanks

If the rubber is damaged and wont seal you may have to replace it After the repair of the rust.
What would say is the minimum size air compressor to use?
Question. does it removes it or just sprays a coat over it?
It removes
You can use white vinegar two or three gallons put it inside a 5 gallon bucket let it sit submerged overnight take it out the next day with a heavy stream of water wash it off wipe it then down with a clean Rag and then lightly oil it it'll be as good as new. That will do. You made a good point about having an air compressor with a proper size tank. In this case size does matter. :)
+wyattoneable exactly, I didn't bother trying my small compressor. I'm happy with the blaster . 👍
Would this blaster be good for removing paint from motorcycle parts?
Hmm... Thinking about taking on a Bunting glider (just old paint and surface rust). Opinions?

idk... what ya think.. maybe?
Very nicely done.
Can you reuse the glass beads?
Yes but eventually it will break down to the point where its not very effective

Definitely

I came for a review ... it took a while but we finally arrived.
What is the minimum compressor requirement?
It says 1 gallon. But I wouldn't use less than an eight. Anywhere from 90-125 psi needed.
? What was the price for everything
How long do you think it would take to sand blast a whole car?
I wouldnt even try that. You'd spend more money in blast material than what it cost to pay professionals to do it
