    TODAY'S VIDEO:
    We often look back at adverts from decades ago with a sense of bewilderment at how such products or themes were allowed to be advertised. The fact that cigarette companies were allowed to promote their products as being healthy and recommended by doctors is nothing short of nefarious.
    Thankfully cigarette companies are no longer allowed to promote their products and the public is now wise to the fact that they are certainly not healthy. But outside of cigarettes, has the advertising industry really changed all that much, or will future generations look back in bewilderment at what we are having promoted to us now?

      Great video. The amount of false advertising in meat, dairy and eggs is insane. Everything from 'Laughing Cow' cheese, pictures of happy cows on milk cartons, pictures of animals on rolling hills on packaged meat, and boasting about the healthfulness of red meat on TV adverts should be outlawed. They are totally misleading and causing people to be sick and not be able to make informed decisions of the 'product' they are buying.
      The most outrageous advertising I've seen lately here in Canada is showing pictures of the actual farmers where the eggs and meat came from - right there on the package! It tries to convince the buyer of the 'happy family farm' and 'farmers love their animals' lie. All it really does is say 'meet this nice family who betray their animals and send them to be slaughtered.' Just ridiculous.

    The interesting aspect of this is that if vegans commissioned an advert for tv that showed how the animal product actually was produced the ASA would ensure it was banned instantly. Not only do they not take action against dishonest ads but they would actively stop honest ones.

      Check out the Ecotricity’s 2018 animal-free energy supply campaign. They included shocking images such as minced meat coming out of a power socket for which they received 30 complaints that were sent over to ASA. Ecotricity was cleared of any charges with ASA stating: „we noted that the image of raw minced beef coming out of an electric power socket was relevant to the product being advertised - vegan electricity”. They are the only official vegan energy supplier in the UK so it was all consistent with the brand image. I came across this case when I was doing a marketing presentation.

      I'm not sure this is strictly true, Tesco ran a vegan friendly ad campaign (although it received back lash) it definitely made a pro vegan point and wasn't removed, also all the impossible burger, MC plant ads, beyond meat the list goes on. Plus as we move closer to January we will see a lot more as companies look to capitalise on the movement. Veganism is very different now to when it was even 10 years ago. However, the same rules apply as with most things: follow the money. Soon you’ll see that the money writes the rules, nothing to do with truth or ethical practice. This doesn’t mean you can’t do this ethically but it does mean that large industries like the animal agriculture industry will take advantage where they can. It’s our job to point of this BS.

      The difference is that the smoking is shown for realism and is not actually showing smoking as glamorous or cool as it was back in the day. What about dramas which include characters who are drug addicts, or gambling addicts, or violent even? If you sanitise films and tv to the extent that you show no bad behaviour at all we will all be subjected to endless repeats of The Waltons 😝.

      I used to work in marketing - and marketing definitely works, even the most subtle variety such as almost unidentifiable "product placement" strategies. I can guarantee that supposedly incidental smoking in Hollywood films is "CPP" which is Covert Paid Promotion or undeclared product placement. All publicity is good publicity. Even in negative portrayals it normalises the practice, and therefore has a promotional benefit to the tobacco industry. Advertising and sponsorship is the driver of today's "consumption without consideration" cult. Companies pay millions to promote their messages, and none of the viewers consider themselves influenced - but they most certainly are! Us vegans are sceptics and rationalists by nature, and aren't falling for such nonsense so easily. QUESTION THE MOTIVES OF EVERY MESSAGE!

    • @robsengahay5614
      @robsengahay5614 Год назад

      @@davidpalk5010 Surely there has to be an actual brand in product placement. If there are characters around a table drinking beer in a pub it seems a bit far-fetched that a brewery would have paid to have them drinking beer in that scene in the hope that some viewers will decide to drink beer because of that scene and buy their specific brand of beer.

Although animal farming Is contributing to climate change and environmental degradation as well as pandemics. Issue is animals have the right not to endure suffering at the mercy of man.
