Still will never forget, when the pandemic first started how a lot of the late night shows didn’t know really how to handle the sudden change. I remember particularly Trevor Noah posting in his sweatshirt talking off script on how he didn’t know what to do and how he was scared. Which breaking that wall down for a show was honestly a weird feeling to see.
Yet when the lockdowns began, Stephen from day one never broke character and had filmed his first late show at home in his bathtub complete with full suit and bubble bath, never breaking character and being the comedic comfort we all needed.
Thank you Stephen for keeping the faith for everyone.
He definitely held it down & lifted me Up🤣too.

Actually, he did have one bad night. The last night in the theater, when they were trying to do it without an audience, he was obviously stressed and very unhappy. He pulled himself together over the next few shows and took a break. When he came back he had his at-home set, with the bookcase on one side and the TV on the other, and he became the master of the home comedy/talk show.
Such a pleasure to watch Stephen Colbert and his guests. Jon Batiste is such a lovely, kind man as well. It's a feel good program. Something needed. Thank you.

For some reason it only just clicked for me that hearing Jon Batiste saying "yes, indeed" is one of my favourite parts of the day. It's made me smile this entire COVID year but I only just made the connection now. How his smile isn't the basis of the Crest toothpaste campaign (or whatever toothpaste he uses) does not make sense (get PAID for that perfect smile, Jon!).
Love you, Jon. Congrats on your well deserved Golden Globe and, I'm sure (better be, because I have a lot riding on this), Oscar win. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jon, Trent and Atticus was never anything I would think of, but it was what I dreamed of.

Early on, pre-COVID, pretty nasty comments were directed at him for his response to Stephens jokes. Pretty petty shit really. I chalk it up to the jealousy of the untalented, because Jon is VERY talented!
While James Corden's interaction with his band is somehow one of equals (I'm missing the proper word). I think that Stephen's and Jon is somehow a Father-Son relationship. I like both but the latter feels so heartwarming

Children who were separated from their parents, who now might became victims of child abuses / sex slavery. People can't easily forget those things just because the perpetuator is out of the picture.

Folks, I just want to say -- THANK YOU! Reading through this comment section, I see far more positive messages than silly conspiracy theories and other crank comments. I am looking forwards to getting my first shot in about a week and a half. Stay safe, stay sane, stay strong.
I feel like we are going in the right direction! I know it's going to be a while before the tension dissipates but I really see a great determination in many people whether it's just to get through or going forward. It's a good time to do what you can for those who are putting positivity into our lives & spread it if we can.

@@maremare3241 - Fauci has changed his views between Feb 2020 April 2020 based on new evidence, and also based on the need to prevent a panicked subsection of the populace mask-hoarding and making worse the already-limited supply of N95 masks with the health-care providers of the time (who, I'll add, even back in March and April were re-using single-use masks because a panicked populace was hoarding masks, and predatory vendors were taking advantage of the PPE lack of supply at that time.) I distinctly remember not being able to lay hands on actual regular surgical masks either online or in my local area until late April -I can only imagine what doctors and nurses were going through trying to get PPE back then.
Besides this, I'll take "wear a mask" advice over "let's inject disinfectant and sunlight inside our bodies" any day of the week:

There are some things that were good about the before times (like being able to see friends and family at will) but there are some things that work so much better for me now than they did before this all started. Working from home is exactly what I need, for instance.

Totally! I always appreciated his music, but I can't believe I used to find him annoying - but that's because they never let him talk, he'd just constantly pipe up with "wow" or "cold blooded" off-camera during Stephen's monologues. I was so wrong! Now I hear him get to actually speak, he's one of my favourite humans in the world I think, on top of being an incredibly talented musician. Big fan.

I'm not even broke and it's been a hard year. My job is good enough that I can work from home, and order as much food and alcohol that I can consume. Not good after 12 months of it every day. This pandemic going to take some getting over. Mental health bumping along the bottom... Stay strong folks.

People aren't afraid of what the television says, a good percentage are afraid of what the science says. Some people are afraid that the scenario of 1918 has played out identically. Even down to you and your words, which were said in the same form in 1918 even as 5 million people died. ( Think about that 5 million people died and we didn't even have air travel. )
Other people are afraid because they have lost people in their life, their family members aren't waiting to pop out from behind the couch and yell "gotcha dems", they're gone forever. There's plenty of reality people are faced with long before the television scares them.
If you live in a low traffic, generally untraveled area then you have less to worry about. I know someone in a tiny tiny town outside of Tennessee. They don't get tourists, most of the townsfolk don't travel, many have never even left the town. So yes there's very little problem for them. You know what that changes? Nothing, just because someone lives in an area where they are at lower risk doesn't mean it's not happening.
You're at near zero risk at being hit by a car in the rainforest, do drunk driving deaths not exist? You'll not likely drown in the desert, are drownings fake? You're one person, and a smaller percentage of the results than the half million who died in the US alone. In other words you're experiences are statistically irrelevant.
I also feel sorry for your family, someone who thinks only of themselves and their experiences must be really hard to be a good relative to.
Rather than attempt belittle others and brag as if you didn't anything other than carry on and get lucky. How about your count your blessings you're not burying friends and family. And maybe, just maybe send some good thoughts to the people who are suffering.

That's true? Have you personally signed up with your local/county/state public health authority? many states are encouraging everyone to sign up now even if they are not group 1a or 1b. Getting people on the list helps states plan how to allocate resources in the months to come. Venues need to be leased, personnel recruited, somebody needs to plan traffic control and somebody needs to find all the folding plastic chairs and tables to sit at when getting a shot. There are a million things to do (more really) and the sooner public health officials have a clear picture of who will show up and where they live the smoother and faster it will all go.

I am a teacher and went to receive my first shot yesterday after my school day ended. It was so well coordinated! The National Guard is incredible! They moved and vaccinated a group that appeared to be about 200 people in less than 1/2 an hour. I can now see how our government is accomplishing these high numbers of inoculations per day. Go National Guard!!! The only problem I had with entire experience was my inoculator said, “You jumped a little when I put the needle 🪡 in your arm.” Ain’t no teacher need to be called out for that. LOL!!!😷😁
