Just wanted to tell you your dad was a beast in that game. I was a white kid growing up in Camden playing ball. I was a guard on Camden Catholic HS 81’ team. We played Camden 2x in conference games. We got destroyed! Couldn’t match up with their size. Your dad has the size and heart to match Camden. Camden was intimidating to lots of teams. I loved seeing Neptune roll them. 😂 I just watched that game for the first time in 43 years. I’m sorry for your loss. I see in the comments that Kevin Thomas also has passed. Kevin and your dad beat 3 McDonald’s All American players on one team ! Heart won that game 👍🏻
This is terrific, thanks for posting. Has anyone found video of this Camden team at the 1980 Seagull Classic (December 1980) where Camden beat DeMatha 90-86? Would love to find it. Milt Wagner scored 52, it was insane. I saw DeMatha coach Morgan Wooten in DC a couple years ago before he died and asked if he still had nightmares of Wagner hitting from 30 feet, he quickly replied “it was 35”. Besides the Camden guys DeMatha had Adrian Branch and Bob Ferry, the game was loaded. It added to the aura around Camden and made this Neptune game so dramatic. I never saw an arena so densely packed. Great stuff!
I can't believe Camden lost this game! I made 1st team with Milt & Billy in 81! When AAU came around, Neptune put their whole team in the tournament! My team the Jersey Road Runners coached by Sandy Pyonin beat them in the championship game to go to Jacksonville!! Great game and awesome memories!
I was at this game. It was so packed. We stood in an aisle the whole game. There had to be over 10,000 fans there. Couldnt beleive Camden lost. They were so loaded that year.
David Baum Yes they were Wagner&Thompson were NBA bound playing with The Lakers in the '80s.Thompson was the most sought after player in the country in '82 he followed Wagner and attended Louisville.
I was there as well. Me and 5 of my high school friends jammed ourselves into a beat up 1976 Buick Riviera. We came from the Jersey Shore but almost didn't make it because we blew out a tire on Route 33 in Monroe Township. Thank goodness we had a spare which we decided to put in the vehicle at the last minute.😢
@@dwightlove3704#15 Freshmen Kevin Walls was a Senior McDonald’s AA. I played for Camden Catholic class of 81’ . Wagner,Walls and Thompson all were on Louisville 1986 Natty champs
I still refuse to watch this entire game. I was in 8th grade when this happened. Came to school the next day to find out who won and teacher told me Neptune. I was so sick! I still can't believe it til this day!
Another major upset was when Lakewood piners beat the E.O. EXPRESS ie... East Orange High... it was at Brookdale Community College. E.O. was also ranked 5th nationally.
We are sad to have lost Kevin Thomas #42. He passed quietly and home in his sleep. My TRUE FRIEND and Im glad the teams legacy is here for all to watch in awe. Love Ya Kev
Camden was a good program back then however thier fans were horible after a loss which after this gane a loss they became violent. I know this from my personal experience I played for East Orange #1 in 1975 we beat Camden at Camden my senior seaon and they attacked our fans cheerleaders complete insanity. I went to this game with my friend and his father/who was a hoop official. We were in the stands with the Camden fans and they were trying to bait us into giving us points and taking Neptune.
@@michaelcampbell5849 Yes beating Shabazz was a cakewalk and I saw it in person.I listened to the upset over Camden on sports radio WJLK Asbury Park my hometown.

The Shore got very little resect but had some powerhouse teams in the 70's and 80's. Long Branch, Neptune and Lakewood were as good as any program in the State
Yes I finally watched the whole game and yes it was and still is the biggest upset in NJ basketball history all the hype was set for Camden to when let me make a point Camden was ranked #1 in the NATION!! Neptune wasn't even RANKED!!! It was also said that there was only two teams that was better than Camden that year..... The New Jersey Nets and the Rutgers Scarlett Knights which is why I say in the comments that I wrote on the ending of the game That whole Neptune Scarlett Fliers starting line up should have been hired by the New Jersey Nets after that game right out of high school at least say the bench for a year the Nets probably would have won a playoff game or two
Three point shot didn’t come into play until 84-85. I grew up in Camden. Cramer Hill section of the city. I played basketball for Camden Catholic class of 81’. Camden was in our conference so we played them 2x a year. The freshman Walls was a McDonald’s AA his senior year. Neptune matched Camden’s athleticism and rebounding ability. This is the first time watching this game in 43 years. Never thought Clarence Turner was a good coach!
Bobby Braun was my dad. Thanks to whoever uploaded this. He passed when I was 19. It's nice to see him doing what he loved the most.
Sorry for your loss. Great game and memories..
I remember that group of players in junior high school! Great memories!
He could play
My condolences I went to Monmouth Regional 84. I was a freshman when Neptune won the chip 81
