@JB Some of those “mothers” left for the same reasons men leave. They no longer love their husbands and the kids tie them down, they claim abuse because the Dad is dead but the kids never saw it. I know a few who have done that by just getting a divorce and moving in with the man they were cheating with. One woman moved to Florida from Nj and her son didn’t see her again for a decade.

You can't really say you were escaping a bad situation when you're the parent. That reasoning makes more sense when a kid runs away but not a parent who leaves their kids. After all, if it was so dangerous then you just left extremely vulnerable people without any actual supervision.

I am from Düsseldorf Germany - Petras case always seemed so strange to me - if you want to live alone & isolated fine disappear but why not leave a note and put your family through so much pain. Maybe there was abuse going on in the family - but then she already lived pretty independently in another city … also if someone confessed to your murder One probably should at least give police a notice to prevent someone going to prison for a murder that never happened … very strange indeed
EDIT: After being found she denied very strongly that any kind of abuse was involved. Quote: “she has expressly ruled out the idea that she ran away to escape sexual violence or abuse. She just wants to be left alone” - not sure how I feel about it considering the fact that hundreds of volunteers looked for her, the search cost a lot of tax money and cases like that are the reason why other adult disappearing cases are not taken seriously and are neglected...

Jason aka the Grateful Doe is such a sad and tragic story. Him and the nice stranger who offered him a ride died as a complete accident. People fall asleep at the wheel very often, it’s just horrible to see that they both perished. And the fact that Jason was never reported missing is heartbreaking. Imagine dying in a freak accident, out of his control & no one knows or even cares to look for you?! I’d be ashamed if I were that mother. Maybe their relationship was strained or something, but as parent, u should always find a way to keep in touch someway or somehow. Seriously tho, if that wonderful person never put out his picture and story on Reddit, poor Jason would’ve been just another corpse with no name. Now I hope he can rest peacefully. And I hope he’s blasting the “Greateful Dead” in heaven. Rest well Jason.

The child abduction of Kamara gave me chills when my mom suddenly told me, out nowhere, that almost the same thing happened when I was born. At least, it was not someone masquerading as a nurse, but an old lady opening the door to her room and inching closely to get inside. Either to steal something or actually get the baby me, she has no idea because my uncle who was sleeping in the couch (they both fell asleep) suddenly woke up when the door opened and demanded what she wanted when she began to inch inside the room.
The old lady just turned around and left. My uncle tried to follow her, suspicious and ofc a little concerned because that was a maternity hospital but he came back and told my mom (who just woke up) that the old lady was either fast or some supernatural being because she was suddenly out of his sight. 😨 Made me scared of what would happen if my uncle wasn’t a such light sleeper 😨😨😨😨

Even if you know well someone with a similar type of amnesia (I doubt it, but let's assume it), it still doesn't give you a picture of exactly how this will play out for each person affected by it. It is possible for people who forgot almost everything about their identity to recall individual pieces of information (like Gabriel Nagy remembered his name and surname after years), so the same thing could be with the access to his bank account. He may be not able to explain it now. Also, forgetting his own identity clearly didn't mean in this case that he hadn't basic knowladge on how the world works, so if he was able to use the language and ask people for food/money, what is so weird with buying camping equipment itself?

    16:53 Petra Pazsitka's case
I don't have a problem with people who leave family and friends to start a new life somewhere else.
I just think it's selfish to allow them to believe they met a tragic demise. Stuff like that literally destroys people. Some turn to drugs and alcohol, develop severe depression, some people are so stressed out they literally die an early death. Parents die never knowing what happened to their missing child. Amanda Berry's mother lost hope because a fraud psychic told her she died. She was so heartbroken she died a couple years later. Siblings blame themselves. Pearl Pinson's brother heard her scream as he was on his way to school. He said he regretted not searching the location where he heard her screams. He blamed himself and still does to this day.
If you want to be left alone- fine. At least let your loved ones know that you are safe and okay. Send a letter writing one simple sentence. I AM STILL ALIVE AND WELL How hard is that?

I particularly liked this video subject matter, together with your presentation and narration, subscribed.
Disappearances are both tragic and fascinating, so to eventually have an answer as to the circumstances that the family member vanished under is really something.
Looking at details published about a missing person doesn't tell what's gone on in their life or provide any reasons why they felt that they just had to vanish from their current life in such a dramatic manner!
It can be extremely difficult for people to think that their beloved family member could just walk away from the life they had together without saying anything.
As adults, their personal reasons and privacy are to be respected and they do not owe an explanation to anyone about their actions.

My city had its own big missing person’s case that was solved twice. Yes, twice. A local homeless man that everyone knew and looked out for vanished one day in 2008 and a missing person’s report was put out. No one really knew his backstory, but they were worried since he was always in the same place every day. He was seen walking along the highway at one point, but again vanished. Several months later, he was found near his hometown outside of Baltimore and was believed to have walked most of the way. (Btw this takes place in North Carolina. So from here to Maryland is a massive journey). Turns out he was a well educated, high earning man who had disappeared from his family and job due to worsening schizophrenia and ended up in my city. He was placed into social services and given proper housing and state assistance. Last year he vanished again from his apartment and was missing for a small amount of time. He was found and reportedly returned to the care of his family, but the update was vague in details.

What is only recently starting to become more widely known regarding Pamela Jackson & Cheryl Miller's disappearance is the arrogant, and negligent attitude of (then) Sheriff Arnie Nelson. It is thanks to him that a tragedy needlessly festered into a four decades-long mystery that resulted in agony for the girls families, and led to a poisonous division in the local community that scapegoated and stigmatized an innocent family.
When Sheriff Nelson was informed by the families about the disappearance of the girls, he blithely dismissed their concerns immediately concluding that the girls had ran off. To be fair, kids running away was commonplace as the majority of them eventually returned home. But he ignored the fact that the girls hadn't taken anything with them. They didn't have the cash to go far, nor any clothing, and one of them had an uncashed paycheck. He finally did a half-hearted investigation. When he started hearing statements that contradicted his preconclusion, he essentially stopped investigating. He cancelled interviews with most of the teens who'd been among the last to see the car with Pamela and Cheryl. He was aware of the route they'd taken to the quarry, but never shared that information with anyone. It is doubtful that he bothered to trace the route the girls took, or did any substantial search. It isn't unconceivable that had the public known about the route the girls took, that they and the missing car would've been found soon afterwards.
When his superiors paid a visit after receiving messages of concern from the families regarding his lack of further action and continued dismissal of their worries, he became hostile and stubborn. He refused to cooperate or work any longer on the case. He was angry that the families had dared to go over his head. He wouldn't share all of the information he had with the local police or law enforcement in surrounding counties. Most of his contemporaries later expressed their opinions that he was incompetent.
In later years when he faced questions from reporters and others about the missing girls, he'd frequently claim they'd ran away. He questioned their character in some cases. He speculated later that maybe the girls had driven into the Missouri River, despite knowing that the route they'd taken went entirely in the opposite direction. He fueled rumors and innuendo.
By the time the car containing the skeletal remains of Pamela and Cheryl was found, the former sheriff couldn't be made to explain himself since he had been dead for some years. His predecessors can offer no explanation for his actions as he didn't keep records.
Of course it isn't nice to speak ill of the dead as polite folks would say. But it's hard not to consider what Sheriff Nelson, elected to protect and serve his county, did and didn't do. His actions speak of a selfish man who was more concerned about his reputation.
If you're curious to learn the fuller story (and be prepared to get pissed off) read "Vanished in Vermillion: The Real Story of South Dakota's Most Infamous Cold Case."

When I worked for the city drinking water department we were applying chemical to the lake from a boat and realized we were floating right above a sunken SUV. I was sure it was going to have a body in it, but luckily it did not when they pulled it out. I also found a very heavy suitcase floating under the bridge while doing the same job one day, not a body thankfully....a ton of documents. I just left them there, not too concerned with white collar crime when you're a 20 year old college kid working for 10 bucks an hour.

I feel badly for the families of people who (especially parents) just go off and make your own family. I understand if there’s abuse or something like that, but otherwise it seems so cruel - especially when they leave their kids and go on to have more! Just awful 😞

The Grateful Doe - I can't understand how the mother has gone over 20 years without even bothering to try and contact someone to file her SON as a missing person. It is absolutely NO excuse that she thought he was "living off the grid" or had a "nomadic lifestyle". This doesn't matter. She could of reported him in their hometown where he was born as a missing person, it doesn't matter if she didn't know where he was in the world, that's why he was a MISSING PERSON, like HELLO?! I'd say whatever, this excuse is weak and so over used and should be taken as a sign that they had a reason to not report them as missing. Obviously, either way, these types of families didn't care about their loved one, they didn't care to even get back into contact with them if they had actually just wanted to live off the grid style.. They didn't give a damn if they were alive, or dead. How would they know? They wouldn't, didn't and never gave a damn. If someone you gave BIRTH to went missing and never contacted you for decades don't you think something would be off? If the persons family uses that stupid excuse they should be ashamed of themselves, but they won't be if they can just turn a blind eye to never talking to your own flesh and b lood for years upon years and not even trying to find out why they wanted to cut contact or if they are even alive anymore or if they could patch their bad relationship after all these years because no one's mom or dad or family member would just say "forget it, they don't wanna be bothered." and accept that as why they can't contact their loved one for decades only if they had a pretty messed up relationship, I'd never be able to just SHRUG my shoulders and go on for years without knowing for sure what had happened.. some people should NOT be blessed with children or blessed with a family if they don't give a care about the members of it being alive or dead.

So I recognized that shopping center you showed in that pic and thought it looked so familiar until you said it was in NB CT. And then I was like ohh okay that’s why. Different stores there now, but basically same layout.
