I worked in the Test and Development group at Oshkosh Truck right out of college. Most of the work I did in the short time I was there was with the LVS and the pre-contract award MTVR, but I drove everything Oshkosh made at the time. Driving a HET is like driving around a 2 story building from the second floor. FWIW, my go-to "get er done" Oshkosh was the HEMTT, but all of their trucks were pretty capable. Oshkosh was a great company to work for!! :)
" like driving around a 2 story building from the second floor " , says it all lol. Saw one in a garage in UK some years ago. It was in for a respray (privately owned truck) and the mechanic was a friend of a friend, to see one in real life is amazing, they are immense.
That was impressive. I knew those trucks were capable but going up and down that rock was crazy. Always wanted to put a expedition body on one of these.
Love it! Funny, when former military vehicles get into civilian hands, is when you really see them tested. The military never pushes their vehicles because they worry about troops getting hurt.
Convoys suck. Believe me though when we've gotten the chance to do crazy stuff, we most certainly did. There isn't many things more exhilarating than red lining a het with an m1 going down hill. The great thing about them is the trailer also has steering(well they turn with the tractor, no actual steering apparatus) and brakes for every group of four tires(48 total tires including the tractor). I never in my few years back in the day had a lockups or over heating, remarkably robust military vehicles.
Lmao apparently you weren’t in the military cuz this was nothing compared to the abuse we put these things through in the Seabees man. One of the best Times I had was when we got a MTVR COMPLETELY 100% stuck and had to use a HET to get er out
you just made a video of you test driving an awesome looking, 8 wheeled, 500 horse power truck, and all you said was wow that was fun. Bro. Imma need a little more
...Had to watch this twice! Looking at one of these to potentially build an overlander with the expandable habitat. Kinda crazy. do you know if one can upgrade the transmission to produce highway speeds? Not sure if it would be possible or if it would make issues with the other "moving parts" of the drivetrain etc. Nice demo! Would also like to see the other features explained and demonstrated.
I'm not sure I'd want to go any faster than 45 down the highway in this truck. It's interesting driving I think part of it is because of the rear axle steering.
Actually, NONE of the axles have diff lock. I honestly don't even recall if the rear axles have an inter-axle diff lock. It's supposed to be AWD to pull REALLY heavy loads, not necessarily for what we would call off roading...

That's pretty damn impressive right there!!
Crazy watching that beast rock crawl!
Neal, that's a great video of Dave's M1070
Thanks
Amazing truck.
Im currently actually making a 1/35th scale model of it along with its M1000 semi trailer. Its about 2 feet long.
Compound turbo craziness and rear wheel steering. Way too much fun!!
Even with that rear wheel steering it sure does take wide turns. 🤪
And after playing around in that for half the day the lmtv sure did feel small. 😆
@@NEILSWORLD I use that M1070 in the snowrunner game on ps5. I cannot even imagine what they are like in real life.
Supercharged and turbocharged....
@@SeanFillnerAgreed, quite the monster when it comes to hauling the gigantically heavy trailers.

700 horses under that hood, that’s why it’s so big. As well as comfortably towing 70 tons
Very impressive video! I’m planning to build a camper over that truck.. but before I think I have to buy a gas station 😉
Lol
Gas won't do you any good if the beast runs on diesel.

Badass video, good job. I need one now.
Everybody should have one 😁
Nice! Test it until it's stuck heh heh
Wish I had one. Is that the 12 litre Detroit Diesel or the 18 litre 700hp Caterpillar?
Detroit
I did not know that the HET 1070 had rear wheel steering.
It sure does.
Is that the Eden VT MG shoot?
Yes
