    Thanks for the vid man!! it really helped. One thing I want to add to anyone else watching this is you can fix the switch while its still on the car. Once the wheel and airbag sensor are off, the silver plate you need is exposed right in front, and it does save a bit of time and hassle. Thanks again! Wish I could give you more then one "like"!!

    Hi, The airbag is a T-30. Just buy a torx multi-tool like I have in the video and the size should be in there. T-20 or 25 for the switch assembly, or a 5/32 allen key works for the switch assembly. You also need a long skinny phillipshead screwdriver to get the shroud off the steering wheel.

    T-30 for the airbag, t-55 for the steering wheel (i believe), and I think a t20 or t25 for the switch assembly. A 5/32 allen key will also for the switch assembly.

    Thats just because there are so many plugs on it, it just takes a while to get them out because they are tough. I usually use a screwdriver to pry them off.

    This one for the steering wheel looks more like M10 rather than T-55..

    Thanks for watching! I have another video of how to fix the switch. Another thing that causes problems with the lights is the ignition switch, which I also have a video of how to replace that. I have many audi videos so search my channel, like, and subscribe! Thanks again!

    Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. My headlights don't work but unfortunately changing the light switch didn't help. When I switch the headlights on, I can measure 12V at the fuses; at the bulbs, the voltage reads 0. Does this mean the problem must be between the fuse box and the headlights? (broken cable?)

    Hello, I have had a fault with the lack of front lights and most likely the headlamp control has failed. Is it possible to remove the cover of the grips without removing the steering wheel?

    So I just went to start this job and one of the screws for the air bag is totally stripped out? Any idea what size it is so I can buy a new one? Also if I cut it off so I can move on with the job can I get it all back together with out the one screw or would that set of a sensor of some sort? I wouldn't leave it that way I just want to drive it back to someplace I can get a new screw.

      @aDIYCarGuy  10 лет назад

      Sorry I didnt' see this comment. You can put it back together with one screw...but get a new one in asap.

    Is this going to affect the airbag at all?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  9 лет назад +1

      as long as you disconnect your battery it won't affect the airbag.

      a DIY Car Guy ty sir, by chance so you know the name of that first tool you used? The one that you used to take the steering cover off?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  5 лет назад +1

      It's a torx key, theres a torx head bolt on both the left and right side holding the air bag on. I don't remember what size so if you get the multi-tool like I have, one of the keys will be the right size. The big one that holds the steering wheel on is also a torx socket.

    Not sure if your still here but i'll give it a shot, I have an 98 a4 quattro, marker/directional lights work, high beam flash works, low beam and high beam DO NOT work, so i took off the switch cleaned sanded, freed up the springd mad it all like new, still the low and high beam dont work, so i am looking for the power source, because at the fuses which are good, I have no power, none, either pole, both dead, so where is the power suppost to come from,
    bat to fuse to switch to headlight
    , or bat to switch to fuse to head lights
    , or bat to ign-switch to fuse to light switch to device
    well if you can lean a hand, I would love to solve this, I hate buying parts that only need to be cleaned or freed up.. ,

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  8 лет назад +1

      +David Densmore I'm pretty sure it goes battery -- ignition switch -- fuse -- headlight switch -- headlight. The ignition switch's contacts wear out inside. The ignition switches are pretty cheap if you get a used or aftermarket, so it's worth a shot. Also, check the condition of the plugs that go to the back of the headlight switch assembly, sometimes the plastic gets brittle from heat, and the metal doesn't make good contact.

    • @dmdit2
      @dmdit2 8 лет назад

      +a DIY Car Guy yep, traced it all down, took it all apart clean and free every thing put back together, and bam. head light are working now, Problem is now it won't stay running, engine starts for 1-2 seconds and stalls or turn off, i tring to figure withc wire got pulled, you have any idea??

    • @dmdit2
      @dmdit2 8 лет назад

      +David Densmore Never mind, i forgot, leaving the bat disconnect, you have to reset the throdbody, by leaving the key in for 3-5 minutes.

      David Densmore Awesome I'm glad you fixed it, I didn't know about the throttle body reset

    hey man I have a yellow switch on the back on my headlight switch that I can't find the plug in, any idea??

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  8 лет назад

      Is it an actual yellow switch, or a yellow plug? Yellow plugs are for airbags. Do you have the airbag on your car?

    • @reapingrevenge7431

      +a DIY Car Guy yeah I finally figured it out

      +a DIY Car Guy so I finished everything got the headlights working but I just got in my car to run to the store and it can't run over 2k with out staling its a standard car, never had this problem before

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  8 лет назад

      Try a throttle body reset...unplug the battery for 5 minutes, plug it back in, then turn the key to the on position without turning the car on, let it sit like that for 5 minutes. Then try and drive it and see what happens. Otherwise check the cam or crank sensor. If there are any codes showing up, check those out.

    T-30 for the airbag, t-55 for the steering wheel (i believe), and I think a t20 or t25 for the switch assembly. A 5/32 allen key will also for the switch assembly.
