I always appreciate when ppl in the business are willing to share what they have learned. Sometimes you get ppl that are worried about someone stealing their business so the become a mizer with information taht could help you progress to the next level. Thank you for sharing this information and you have definitely inspired me to try the home based cake business again. I was not as informed on my first attempt but after watching your videos and being in a better place in my life, I am going to give it a go! Time to pull all of my Wilton equipment out of the boxes. I focused primarily on fondant cakes but I want to try more iced cakes this time around. Thank you for all the great information. I love your channel so much!
of course! I feel like so many people have helped me out along the way, the least I can do is pay it forward and share what I've learned :) so happy to hear that, wishing you the best of luck with your cake business!!
I'm nine and I have a business I'm going to start a RUclips channel so I can share my yummy recipes that why I changed my channel name to Alyssas sweet tooth
Today i started selling home made cookies and only in 10 minutes i got 3 orders, two for 15 pieces and one for 20 pieces 😱 gotta stock up on brown sugar and butter now 😂
That's was. I'm getting ready to start into this myself. I have everything but have decided to buy a drop shed for a dedicated kitchen that's just for baking. I'm super excited!
Thank you SO much for making this video! Usually when people make videos like this they just spout the same old “hard work, believe in yourself, be true to yourself!” While that’s all nice, it does NOTHING to help me learn what I need to learn to actually start my home-based bakery business. You actually went into detail about what we need to know to be legally certified, what tools we need and how to fairly price our products! Loved this video!! 🎂🎂🎂
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who went through all this stress. Especially the pricing. I've finally learned how to pass on cake orders that are really not worth all the time spent. Before I used to say yes to every order and I'll spend so much time trying to please everyone for little money. Oh well still learning though
I don't sell things, but I somewhat understand as a writer who takes a lot of requests! Sometimes, a request isn't worth the effort, but it's always hard to decline. It's hard to put your own time and interests first!
I started baking as a business last month and so far have sold 4 cakes already, I feel soo emporered by this, I agree with the pricing issue especially here in Kenya where butter and cheese is soo expensive.
I just watched your refinery video - was great thanks! Just wondered when you say you make an income from partnerships with networks, what does that mean please? Thanks x
I was binge viewing cake recipes and got your video, I am actually on my way to start my own bakery business, and without looking for it... I found a LOT of excellent notes from what you recommended, I'm self-taught as well and I really appreciate this because is not something other people will tell you. Plus you're really cute, thanks for the video.
you might want to continue to develop your skills, and then when you're more comfortable with your recipes and techniques you can begin your business! :)
I also love baking especially cupcakes and would like to open a business, already have a name but still practicing...... practice makes perfect and thanks for sharing the information. It's never too late to start!
I started my food business years ago out of home, but now I'm a commercial facility selling online and now teach here in RUclips how to start from home but scale it to sell online great video
Wow this truly helped a lot!! So simple and to the point!!! Thank you so much for taking your time to explain and let us beginners know what we need to do/know!! Happy New Year's Eve!! Stay blessed and beautiful as always!! 🎊🥂✨💗
Hi Chelsea, thank you so much for this lovely video! You have inspired my cake making group to help support cake makers with their business! Still getting it off the ground but would love for your to stop in:). Thank you for your great content! facebook.com/groups/214432312518947/?source_id=127866090696643
Absolutely loved this. Please do more videos like this. Just one suggestion: lower the background music a bit, so we can hear you clearly. But this is a very helpful video
Hi Ms Chelsweets. Thanks for sharing the info. Yo could take the 'multi tier cake orders' by hiring a friend for an hour or so and paying them. That would 'up' your revenue.
"I watched a ton of YT videos on how to build a cake business and now I make YT videos about starting a cake business.". That really went full circle. I think your videos are super cool and it's always swell to see passionately people toil away with great skill.
I LOVED this video! I live in NY too (Buffalo) and recently, I’m taking my cake skills seriously and have gotten offers from restaurants to bake for them and co-workers telling me that I need to start my business. I never ever thought of looking in this direction but now I’m thinking it could be a possibility in the future. You hit up on so many points and concerns of mine. Thanks for making this!
great video we did the same starting from home locally and then grew into a commercial facility selling online we now teach others on how to start and grow an online bakery
You can also wrap a fully decorated cake in a couple layers of plastic wrap, and then freeze it. All you need to do is move the cake to the fridge about a day before to unfreeze it.
I’ve been baking for two years now and I’ve only sold about 5 big sizes birthday cakes and few boxes of cupcakes. This was so helpful. Thank you so much ♥️

This is an extremely useful video for people like me. So many friends have asked me to start selling my cakes but I have always been hesitant because of license regulations. Since I too work full time and bake only as a hobby, it is overwhelming to think about pricing, tools and most importantly keeping that work/life balance.
Thank you your advice really push my confidence up! To now im just starting to sell cupcakes and to my surprise, in just one week i already had 3 orders of cookies and cupcakes and now its growing!😇 im going to enroll my self in a cake class i really wanna learn more i've been self taught for like 5 years now i already made cakes but those formula or ingridients their using to stabilized the icing stuff is the only thing im lacking of.. its really a great feeling to know that your family and friends supports you and believing that you can do it.. my family and me are planning to start a mini bakery in our town hope it works! ☺️
Omg your video just came from heaven to me, I am a stay at home mom and I’m looking for something to do without leaving home and you just gave me some hope. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge! I love it ❤️
Hi I have a question about my daughter's wedding cake I'm making...i tried Italian meringue buttercream for the 1st time and it came out really sweet and SUPER buttery tasting. Pretty much all anyone could taste is butter! I got my recipie from Brian on preppy kitchen...what went wrong? I heard so many great things about it! Will it travel from Texas to arizona by car with dried ice frozen? Is it the best icing for a wedding cake? Also do you have a fondant recipie? Thanks you'll save my life!!!! Ive only been decorating for a couple months and this is a challenge!! Naomi
Hi Chelsea, thank you very much for the excellent advise. I am too type A person plus my first steps in trying to turn my love to bake to a business. I had and still have doubt if I am able to turn it to the full time business because I don't know how to start marketing. Friends and family members love my baking and it is free for them but it is till at start point and I don't have lined up people with order yet. I look forward for the 2 part of your video how to use social media successfully. I am also open for any your suggestions. Thank you! Munara
It definitely takes time to get things up and running. But I really do think networking with people in your community or city is the best place to start :) Best of luck!!
Hi dear I'm a homemaker. I make cakes for friends n family, nowi want to bake cakes to earn the money to give for charity. I don't get many orders n I can't make so many cakes because I have some other responsibilities, is there any sight where I don't have to get licence n register myself because i cant run a tregular busy business , will be waiting for your response. You said where you live you need a separate kitchen for your business. How do you manage baking then from home for customers if you only have that one kitchen? Unless you have a house with another kitchen in the basement designated for your customer's orders how will you be able to have a business from home? :(
I'm, often asked if I have website for my cakes, but I'm not sure on how to do that. can you do a video on that? your video have been a great help to me thank you for your help!!!!
I’m ten years old and my dream is to start a cake business! I’ve been baking since I was 7 I think I’m good at baking, could I start a business now let me know plz!
YES Please check the regulations! Also Depending on the ingredients you can't really sell it from home, Dairy products which needs to keep in the fridge etc
I was so pumped and excited after watching this video!! Then I looked up my states laws and in my state you're not allowed to produce in a home that has pets inside at any time. :/ I really want to get in the cake business/ instagram. Scared to make the leap.
Hi Chelsea, Thanks for this informative video for beginners. I could relate to so much that you spoke about and I am so glad that I stumbled upon this. I am just starting out and also have no formal training in baking. So I wanted to ask you if you can recommend some really good online baking course. I know I can find tons online but a recommendation always helps. Thank you
I appreciate this video as Iam thinking to make a cake business or not. I dont have a separate kitchen in my home but we are hoping to find a space. I hope to find more info from your videos. NEW SUBBIE!!! I have the passion and love to bake it is just scarey I have only done one super large baby shower cake which was my first order lol! It was 36 by 36 lol!
Pulchritudinous lady with good info i have all of those items got all minds from walmart. For Christmas if people asked me what I want it's always cake items lol .I have 4 kitchenaid lol.also I have also used some of your recipes an they always come out extremely delicious.
hi Chelsea! thank you so much for making this video. this year, I've started pursuing an actual business for my baking and it's been very challenging because I'm still a student and I don't have anyone to discuss questions and concerns about a home baking business. your video gives me a breath of relief after all of my stressing. you're amazing for going after what you're passionate about and I can't wait to utilize your tips and advice that you've shared with us. thank you again so much, I'm excited for the future for all small businesses.
Love yr video, I'm new yr Channel I to make cakes. I just had some one ask me to make Mimi cupcakes For a engagement party never had done them to sell not really sure how to price them can you give me some idea on how much to sell them for. Thanks Rose
It depends on where you live, your clientele, and the cost of you ingredients! From what I've seen mini cupcakes usually sell for around $2! Hope that helps, happy baking Rose!
I am in England trying to start a cake business that caters to vegans/lactose intolerance/allergies/gluten free etc, but I don't live in a big city so I'm worried that that will be a problem.
It can be hard if your not in a super populated area! But if you make great desserts, I'm sure you'll get great referrals and business through word of mouth :)
This is so great to hear straight from you !!! I had watched all your other videos and i just made my first official cake since i recently became so interested... Thanks for all your thoughts, guidance and expressing what you have learned along the way !! I admire you & your work Chelsweets !!
That was great advice. Type A personality 🙋 right here 😁. You hit the nail on the head, take orders that makes us a little nervous and we learn from it. 2 tier cakes especially make me nervous.
Yes times a million to the KitchenAid! I couldn’t really afford it but the pro 500 went on mega sale so I invested and am SO glad I did! Thanks for posting this 😊 your startout sounds a lot like mine. I’m RUclips taught, inspired by lots of your cakes, and have been self taught and learning as I go! Loving all of it
Well thank you so very much. Almost everything you said pertains to me. Self taught home baking etc. This was a very helpful video. I also may have to expand..lol. These products do take up space. Thanks again very insightful.
Love your videos & advice! I have epilepsy & had to quit working so I started baking, it gets stressful but is also a great way to keep active & make money. Work life balance is a huge one for me because the stress can bring on some of my seizures. Thanks for the advice, again!
I'm so happy to hear you found this helpful!! I 100% agree that baking is a great way to make money, and it definitely keeps you up on your feet :) I wish you all the best with your baking business!!
In Georgia, I can get a Cottage Foods license for about $100 that allows me to make baked goods out of my own kitchen with only a simple, basic inspection.
Hi Chelsweets! I am a quick question I am wondering about. Is I am just starting off and cannot get a second kitchen in my apartment, would the regulators or health inspections be okay with that? How were you able to run the business with your apartment kitchen?
Is a 213 piece cake decorating kit From Amazon a good choice + the 12 gel color kit + the 18 cardboard Circles. A good choice to buy for starting your own business

Too many regulations in democratic states. Glad I don’t have to deal with any of that.
Should I do any certified course related to cake baking and cake decorations...
Heeey...how do you know what is the right amount of leaveners to use with the amount of fluor or sugar
YES Please check the regulations! Also Depending on the ingredients you can't really sell it from home, Dairy products which needs to keep in the fridge etc

It depends on where you live, your clientele, and the cost of you ingredients! From what I've seen mini cupcakes usually sell for around $2! Hope that helps, happy baking Rose!
Eyes this video suspiciously bc i was just talking to my husband about selling breads
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
I am in England trying to start a cake business that caters to vegans/lactose intolerance/allergies/gluten free etc, but I don't live in a big city so I'm worried that that will be a problem.
It can be hard if your not in a super populated area! But if you make great desserts, I'm sure you'll get great referrals and business through word of mouth :)
i love watching you.. i really wanna become a baker i watch u on tik tok
This is so great to hear straight from you !!! I had watched all your other videos and i just made my first official cake since i recently became so interested... Thanks for all your thoughts, guidance and expressing what you have learned along the way !! I admire you & your work Chelsweets !!
Great video but the music background it so irratating
in retrospect I wish I had lowered the volume of it!! :/
I sure hope she puts her hair up when she's actually baking yikes
Well done 👌🏽👌🏽🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Thank you!!
That was great advice. Type A personality 🙋 right here 😁. You hit the nail on the head, take orders that makes us a little nervous and we learn from it. 2 tier cakes especially make me nervous.
But the best part about orders that make you nervous is that it usually means it's a challenge, and it will help you grow and expand your skills :)
Loving all of it
That's awesome!! It's tough getting started, but if we can do it, so can other aspiring bakers :) Love that you're self taught!!!
Im 10, and trying to start a small cake business

Is a 213 piece cake decorating kit
