Diving in Koh Tao is the most popular activity on the island. It seems like everything in Koh Tao revolves around scuba diving. We had originally planned to just do a few fun dives during our week in Koh Tao. However, we were quickly talked in to getting our Advanced Open Water certification!
Koh Tao is one of the cheapest places in the world to get diving certifications! Our advanced diving certification cost approximately $250 USD. We had an amazing experience diving in Koh Tao and we would highly recommend to anyone!
The only draw back to the diving was that the visibility was pretty poor. We had heard great things about the visibility around Koh Tao, but we went during low season so the water around the island wasn't as clear.

Kara deserves a round of applause!!! she didn't want to go night diving but did it anyways!!!! that's a real trooper right there!! :)
Kara - I have never seen you more upset on this trip than before the night dive! And one of my biggest fears ever is diving in general. So I'm proud of you guys!
+Jennifer Weaver haha she seriously didn't smile for like 2 hours before the dive.
Kara do you break out when you are stressed?
You should try it it’s soo fun
I love how Kara just admitted she was in the middle so she wouldn't get eaten first when Nate is right there.
How not to die in the water. Great advice. This was a fascinating video, and you have courage!! I'm glad to see Kara was back to her usual smiling self after the night dive.
Hands-down the most rewarding things you will do in your life will be a direct result of stepping outside your comfort zone. Well done you two. 👊🏻👌🏻
This is so cool i went to the exact same resort and got my same license and did the exact same dives. the night dive scared me but it was so much fun and ended up being my favourite one
Wow I am absolutely terrified of the ocean and diving let alone all that during the night. HUGE HUGE props to Kara for facing her fear. I could never. You deserve a huge pat on the back!!! I wish I had your bravery
I saw it in one of your video's from Japan. I saw a "Georgia" coffee vending machine. I lived in Northern Japan for 4 years in the 80s and I remember Georgia coffee being so great. Maybe because it was the first canned coffee I had ever had. Just when I saw the vending machine in the background you brought back memories. Thank you.
kara - well done for conquering your nerves. you are braver than me!
First time Kara didn't smile when the camera was pointed at her. Glad you had a good time.
I have such a big cheesy grin watching this! Well done guys!
Awesome video as always Kara and Nate.
How many people can say they "Made Sparkles" at 27 meters? You two are Awesome!
I got advanced and open water at bans and I’m only 12 we went back to America and started traveling the world now we are back in Koh Tao for maybe a year and my dads a dive master and tech diver and diving more than once a week I love it even the night dives!!
Wow alot of these videos from 4 years ago mysteriously get recommended after I watched em
Awesome job overcoming your fears! Thanks for sharing. I just booked my stay at Sairee Cottage Resort to get my open water certification in a couple weeks after seeing this video. Can't wait!
+John Underwood No way!!! That's the coolest, you won't regret it! :)
Kara, My wife and I have been diving for 20 years and over 1000 ocean dives by ourselves. We hate night dives. Never really saw anything special and the darkness creates a dangerous situation. Totally not worth it.
Sunlight doesn't penetrate below a certain depth, 30 ft if I remember correctly, so if you are doing any sort of deep diving then all dives are night dives. And the clarity of the water will also have the same effect.
aw, kara... what a champ! then it turns out she loved it, haha
You go girl!
Kara you rock!
Makes me think of my trip to Belize back in 2008. Went scuba diving in the Great Blue Hole. The recreational limit for scuba diving is 130ft. My dive computer logged me as at 139ft and most of my group, including the guide, was below me. Luckily no reports of narcosis. One of the only dives I've done past 100ft.
Try diving in the kelp forest of the Southern Cailfornia coast, talk about poor visibility.
I loved diving in Koh Tao the island if turtles ☺️
Cool! We almost did ours in Koh Lipe but with limited time we decided to just chill on the beach :)
+Elizabeth Travels we were surprised how much we enjoyed the certification! Chilling on the beach is never a bad idea though. Especially if you're on budget!
Yeah, we're gone for 4 month and big expenses like that hurt right at the beginning of the trip ;)
OMG Congratulations
"Peak... peak.." uh oh the oxygen deprivation broke Nate.. nope he's ok 🙂
you should check out punta sur in cozumel. Its a 115ft dive!
thankyou for the comment on my channel yeah you should tottally get a drone ! sooooo good
Aww we have bioluminescence in Puerto Rico they're so beautiful!
They have those potato tornadoes at the CA stare fair!! Even one wrapped around a hotdog!!!
I’m sticking with snorkeling 🤿 🤿🤿🤿🤿🤿🤿
Here in the U.K. 5m visibility is fantastic
So true 😂
This made me laugh out loud, thank you
How much did it cost?
If anyone lives in Southern Cali you can take an R.O.P. class. If you are in high school it is almost free. You would have to pay for the cert itself and some of your gear, if you don't want to rent, but it is an sport diver level class (somewhere between basic and advance) that included first aid, CPR and water rescue certs. You come away very well trained.
kara, Night dives are awesome. The next time you go on one buy a chem light and activate it and the cut it open and sprinkle it on your suit so you glow. Its fun and the fish come to you.
Nate, did they go over dive tables with you guys?
John really cheap I live in Koh Tao and dive almost every day
Cool vid! Nate, you look like a combination of James Franco and Cristiano Ronaldo haha..
+Faiz Samsuri Haha I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks!
+Kara and Nate exactly nate has tat famous smile of Cristiano Ronaldo :)) btw i'm ur new subcriber! looking forward for ur more travelling vloggs!
was it approximately 250 for both of you or for each
I noticed over time that you change your rings. Did you take off your engagement for safety.?
What a very nice a and friendly lady right there 13:21
They sell those potato tornados at my hometown’s local farmer’s market!
Kara or Nate- Do you recommend Sairee Cottage scuba dive coarse or do you suggest another company?
Out of curiosity, was there a purpose to the ginger ale?!
I probably missed it but where did you get certified? We are going to Thailand for our Honeymoon in Mid Oct-Mid Nov..(we fell in love with it because you guys made Thailand seem like an amazing place!). We would love to talk and find out info on Thailand and places to stay!
Sairee Cottage Diving, did you end up getting certified?
Andaman Sea diving is so much better. Do a liveaboard to Similan Islands. Visibility is great
View #1!
I'm ready for you all to come to the good ole USA and then drag me somewhere for my first night dive, although we'll have to keep it under 60' since I'm not quite so advanced...
+Austin Eldridge I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd love to do another one!!! I have no desire to go deeper than 60' at night lol that won't be a problem!
Always thought Kara and Nate can swim like fish as it was anyway
Thailand gets a bad rap about there quality of diving schools. But it sound like you did more then what I had to do to become certified and I know I paid a lot more.
Ah Shorties. the advantage of warm water.
of course fish sleep....didn't you see Finding Nemo?
Fish sleep laying on their sides on rocks..... Who knew?
Those sunglasses are infinitely better than your Oakley's .. welcome to the 21st century.
Y
I know someone who evidently is in a perpetual state of nitrogen narcosis, she always thinks everything's funny and that she's got great ideas (when she doesn't) 6:08. Now I know.
Kara looks stoned
So much talking.
