    Bordeaux mix is a copper based fungicide.It is used to control various fungal diseases in different crops all over the world. Let's see about the preparation and uses of Bordeaux mixture.
    Preparation of Bordeaux mixture (40 litres ):
    STEP 1: Mix 400 grams of Copper sulphate in 20 litres of water and mix thoroughly.
    STEP 2: For second mixture, mix 400 grams of pure calcium in 20 litres of water and mix it well.
    STEP 3: After preparation of both the mixtures, slowly add the copper sulphate mixture in the calcium mixture and stir it with stick well while mixing. (Note: Don’t add calcium mixture in copper mixture to avoid consequences)
    Farmer can make it whenever it is required.Ensure that the mixture is not acidic in nature.It should be either neutral or basic.
    In order to check the nature of the solution,use Knife rusting technique.
    Keep the knife in solution mixture for 2 mins.If the knife has rusted then its acidic. We can change the nature of the mixture by adding calcium in it.
    THINGS TO REMEMBER:
    Prepare whenever you needed and try not to store it.
    During rainy days,mix gingelly oil or groundnut oil to Bordeaux mixture to avoid washing off from rain.
    Uses of Bordeaux mix:
    Bordeaux is mainly used as a winter fungicide.Some of the main uses are:
    • Bud rot in coconut.
    • Fire blight on apples
    • Black spot on rose
    • Downy mildew and powdery mildew on grapes
    • Walnut blight on walnut etc..,
