Great video, Brad! I had never heard of this plugin, but it sounds fantastic! Question: do you still use a limiter to bring the LUFs up to acceptable levels in your master bus, or is this plugin meant to displace that? I've had good luck with the Waves L2, and the Infected Mushroom Pusher.
This plugin adds a lot of "perceived loudness" and can obviously add more gain... I still use limiting with it but it always depends on the mix, right? If the mix is low and not loud enough/ built right, you'll always be chasing for loudness at the end.
One thing that this plugin does that isn't focused on in this video is that you can use it as a clipper by pushing the input while enabling "Clip at 0dB". So you soft clip, and saturate. But it will never replace a normal limiter. i think MixBusTV has a great video on the matter where he pushes -4 LUFS with just clipping and saturation from the inflator. Not saying it's going to produce the best sound, just presenting you with all it can do. /L
A little Goes A Long Way On This Plugin, Dont Forget To Gain Compensate, It Easily Can Fool You Into Thinking The Sound Is Better Because Of Loudness Since It Has Not Auto Gain Compensation, It Like An Upward Compressor, Lifting The Quieter Parts And Leaving The Louder Parts Relatively Untouched... I Use It On Vocals Too
OI is great. It's part of my default template master bus. One benefit of "old but gold" plugins is they use no CPU and have nearly no latency. The same cannot be said for Ozone 9... I appreciate OI's ability to give things some polish so I can hold off on dropping Ozone for as long as possible.
Is it just me that finds the faders on this plugin so smooth when pushing with your mouse up and down. Wish all plugin faders works this way. It moves precisely smooth.
Ha right? I grabbed PiMax which is a cool plug-in like Inflator but with more features. I think it’s worth it during their $39 sales though. Easiest to use
Man I would LOVE to see you compare this to some of AIRWINDOWS plugins. Maybe Tape6 for example. Have you tried some?Would be cool to see your review. Seems like you in Ableton can recreate the Oxford Inflator sound with Ableton Stock plugins/saturator. Any way to do the same with logic stock plugins to get the identical oxford inflator sound?
@@JayyReezy Without getting really technical... The God particle has an EQ (pultec style), saturation built from blue stripe 1176's I believe, and a limiter... The inflator is more of an exciter/ saturation, no limiting, no 3-band EQ, and probably a ton of other differences. I didn't code it! haha
Right. And odd harmonics are additive EQ, ADDING to the fundamental… It’s the psychoacoustics of it all, how we perceive the sound and we perceive it as adding frequencies (which it is…)
There's a nice video (ruclips.net/video/kD71CuGl1Fs/видео.html) where the guy puts Ableton's Saturator with its Soft Sine curve on one track, and Inflator on the other, invert one and the result sums to almost nothing. Basically Inflator is a saturation plugin. Then there is a recreation RCInflator for Reaper which I understand is quite close also.
isn't oxford inflator just a waveshaper? There was a guy who debunked the plugin awhile back by analyzing the wave change and found the same effects could be created by adjusting the curve on any wave transformer.

@@SchibbiSchibbi I've decided I likely don't need it. I am striving to use fewer plugins and focus more on quality at the source.

Totally agree!
who knew a sine wave was the answer to making it all sound better
What do you mean?
@@RadiumRecordsHollywood under the hood of the plug in its simply a wave shaper plug in with a sine wave function

Inflator has some real Mojo. Nothing sounds quite like it. You definitely won’t be able to recreate the sound of this with stock plugins.
Is this plugin on the master?
I use it on my master buss all the time

Yooo really helpful. Thanks for the info bro 🙏🏾 Can you make a video on harmonics for mastering?
Cheers man!
I was always trying to figure out wtf this plugin did hahaha I was like it can't just be saturation!!!!
It’s so much more!!
I ran this through plugin doctor today and there’s absolutely zero eq, it’s all dynamics and harmonics.
Edit: mostly odd order harmonics
Right. And odd harmonics are additive EQ, ADDING to the fundamental… It’s the psychoacoustics of it all, how we perceive the sound and we perceive it as adding frequencies (which it is…)
Harmonics are Harmonics, not additive EQ.
Effect on 100 prevents overshoot so I don’t think setting this to 100 should be avoided necessarily
I'm not afraid of "overshoots"... I use my ears, they haven't failed me in 20+ years doing this!

P42 Climax is new Secret Sauce .. much better than the Inflator!
I'll tap in but I find that hard to believe!
Inflator is a wave shaper. P42 is just really good saturation, I believe.
40$ on sweatwater
