I agree. It is my 3rd favorite album of mine by Floyd. 1. The Division Bell 2. Wish You Were Here 3. Obscured By Clouds 4. DSOTM 5. Pipers @ The Gates Of Dawn Those are my top 5! Then again, I love anything and everything by Pink Floyd and Dave's solo albums. But 'On An Island' is definitely probably my number one favorite album of all time!
@@sleepalaska 6 years goes fast. I was only recently married for one year and happy. Now it's been 7 years married... I'll get back to you on the "happy" part. Lmao
Thats because they look each other to know what they are doing. If they look each other at the same time and smile, is because they are communicating themselves through music and get the message.
If I had a time machine, I'd set it for that night, in that location, and re-live the moment for eternity. Absolutely my favorite version of every song they played that night.
A great track from a great album - Obscured by Clouds - recorded during, yes *during* the recording of Dark Side of the Moon. "Hang, on, guys, we're doing our magnum opus, but lets shoot over to France and knock out another album in 10 days..." This song sounds better with age, Gilmour's deeper tone. Gorgeous piano solo from Richard Wright, god bless you. And so nice to hear Gilmour on the pedal steel guitar at the end of the song - an instrument he used very effectively on their early 70s albums. Wonderful stuff
+Qballs Hanratty I totally agree with your comments. I love that song, many memories for me. Indeed a favourite album in France where I come France, special place in our hearts.
Actually Rick is singing his own descending piano chord progression, but it's good to see these guys enjoying this beautiful music they created together, indeed.
Right??? This is actually the only album I like by the Floyd after Syd Departed. Its simple but gorgeous and they are starting to establish a direction. I still wish Syd was here or played with them for decades but what is is.. This album is highly under rated... a lost gem, just like the early Syd work that only recently is getting noticed. Gilmour plays quite well on this- awesome share!
I would have gone NUTS when I heard the intro. Like, absolutely bonkers. 😂 This is one of my favorite Floyd songs and this would have been so absolutely unpredicted. I'm not sure Pink Floyd ever played it live. This may have been the only love performance of it.
I have to agree - I never listened to Obscured for years because so many people wrote it off as a bad album. Once I listened to it, I was shocked by how good it was and how many memorable songs there were. For example, THIS ONE!!
The Rick-David moment at 3:09 and Rick's joy at 4:56 make this one of my favorite Floyd videos (and songs) ever. If I miss Rick so much, I wonder how very sad it must be for David.
Sheer geniuses. Gilmour/Wright...one half of the most musically beautiful band ever, the legendary Pink Floyd! Rick's body of work will ensure he will always be with us but he is still sorely missed, there will never be another. I do agree that their earlier albums are brilliant, Obscured by Clouds, More, Atom Heart Mother and course the epic Meddle. What followed is, of course the stuff of legend!
No one could see how sick Richard Wright was. He kept it hidden like a pro. Concentrated on his music and made memories for us to Cherish. I simply couldn't get enough of the Live At The Royal Albert Hall DVD. Something to remember.
I was watching the dvd and at the end of it, this song started....Wonderfull song, I never heard it before....Live at Gdansk is amazing, I like all the songs. Great David, Great Rick and all those guys....perfect
It's great to have this version to watch and listen to...these guys love what they do...great song, super lyrics and amazing muscianship...thanks for posting
Brings tears to my eyes. So great that the guys got to perform this one togerher...so fortunate that there is a video of this version. A classic when it came out on a super-underrated album...aged and performed perfectly with D&R and the band. This whole CD LaG is so astounding. Gracias
excellent ! so nice to see some of the older material shared here, and Dave & Rick obviously having quite a time performing these gems ~ thanks for posting
Obscured by Clouds is the most underrated album in the history of Rock music period. If you love the music of Dark Side, then you MUST own Obscured. Brilliant melodies, and song compositions. The lyrics may not be up to par with Dark Side, but the music is just as brilliant, and some cases even more so. Thank God for David Gilmour.
When we drive our daughter down to college & visit her at University of Illinois (a little over a two-hour drive), this song is always going through my head... and I think I'm growing old.
Heaven sent the promised land Looks alright from where I stand 'Cause I'm the man on the outside looking in Waiting on the first step Show me where the key is kept Point me down the right line because it's time To let me in from the cold Turn my lead into gold 'Cause there's a chill wind blowing in my soul And I think I'm growing old Flash the readies What's, uh the deal? Got to make it to the next meal Try to keep up with the turning of the wheel Mile after mile (mile after mile) Stone after stone (stone after stone) you turn to speak but you're alone Million miles from home, you're on your own So let me in from the cold Turn my lead into gold 'Cause there's a chill wind blowing in my soul And I think I'm growing old Fire bright by candlelight And her by my side And if she prefers we will never stir again Someone sent the promised land And I grabbed it with both hands Now I'm the man on the inside looking out Hear me shout "Come on in, What's the news and where you been?" 'Cause there's no wind left in my soul And I've grown old
Tricky Vicky David Gilmour and Richard Wright these was so mazing. And David Gilmour with them amazing hands was so smooth sounded going back in fourth. There will never be any band out there, that will never ever come up against Pink Floyd, your the best.
I would Hitch-Hike across the country back in the 70s-80s. The part where they sing, "Time after time- stone after stone, you turn to speak but, you're alone. A million miles from home- you're on you're own". Would remind me of those daze. Got teary.
'Obscured by Clouds' was the bridge between the somewhat inaccessible Floyd of 'Atom Heart Mother' and 'Meddle' and the more familiar and, in my opinion, focused Pink Floyd that the world is more familiar with. It's such an overlooked album/soundtrack, and that's a shame because it's beautiful.
obscured by clouds is an incredible record.
sorry to respond 6 years later... only discovered this video today but it’s crazy how underrated the album is
I agree. It is my 3rd favorite album of mine by Floyd.
1. The Division Bell

sometimes they looked each other when they were playing, and when they weren't looking at each other they were too busy JAMMING XXX
And lifelong friends
Thats because they look each other to know what they are doing. If they look each other at the same time and smile, is because they are communicating themselves through music and get the message.

+1stSaintsFan The lyrics were written by Roger Waters.
JDG7724 You are correct, thanks!
They even fit in a short tour of Japan while recording OBC.
one of the best songs of pinkfloyd and also all bands
agreed.
One of the most underated songs. Spiritual, Creative and Classic!
I like how at "there's no wind left in my soul, and I've grown old", David and Rick look at each other as of to say "ain't that the truth?".
This song is magical. Made my night. Incredibly underrated song on an incredibly underrated album.
4:54 is my favorite part of the performance. Dave playing a solo and Rick knows him so well that he mouths the notes perfectly....just because.
Actually Rick is singing his own descending piano chord progression, but it's good to see these guys enjoying this beautiful music they created together, indeed.
He's singing his piano part where he plays the descending notes into the chord change.
Dear God, give David eternal life
Amen.

Mile after mile (mile after mile)
Stone after stone (stone after stone)
you turn to speak but you're alone
Million miles from home, you're on your own
So let me in from the cold
Turn my lead into gold
'Cause there's a chill wind blowing in my soul
And I think I'm growing old
Fire bright by candlelight
And her by my side
And if she prefers we will never stir again
Someone sent the promised land
And I grabbed it with both hands
Now I'm the man on the inside looking out
Hear me shout "Come on in,

'Cause there's no wind left in my soul
And I've grown old
