Good review ! Im 5’7 too . I bought the strive 6.0 on January 19’ and im loving it. I have also changed the stem , bars (DMR) , saddle ,( it was delivered without pedals) and i have upgraded the brakes to magura mt5 (fabio wibmer selective edition) . Greetings from Greece !! Keep riding !
I purchased the same bike about 5 months ago. I like it I was coming off a much less travel bike. I love the bike for downhill for real. It's a fair climber when you go to the 136 mm rear which I ride mostly on my local trails. I have to go up to the mountains a couple hours north to really use most of the features of this bike. I have my stock other than I also changed the peddles and saddle. Most good bikes don't include peddles. It's my 1st carbon fiber MTB bike too. I love 29'er my last one was a 29'er.
Sweet. Its my first carbon too. And my first 29er. Im really digging the speed you get from a 29er. I agree on the climbing. I have an older bike that is a 3x and that thing climbs awesome 👌
Great review, thinking about this bike a lot as I want to try a 29er but want something nimble. I am jumping a lot the last 12 months and also ride a whole bunch of stuff, steep tech, very fast flow trail and some slower XC stuff. How do you think it will work out with the jumping, I would hate to get a new bike that is not good in the air, currently on a 27.5 wheel
Thanks dude. We'll in my opinion it's a great bike all around. Even for an enduro it climbs really well. With that being said this bike is an awesome jumper. This bike actually taught me how to jump. The one thing I will say is I wished I would have gotten a small instead of a medium. I like to size down on my bikes now cause I always like to jump them. Makes it a lot easier. And with it being a 29er it handles like beast on rough terrain.
I have a strive 6.0 2019 too. Noticed that you setup your shapeshifter wrongly. You're supposed to put it in click mode before pumping up the shapeshifter. Or else you would find that the shapeshifter is very reluctant to extend while you're on it. As for the pressure Canyon recommends setting it the same as your shock, max at 200psi. Enjoy your new bike!
Digging the channel so far man! Really nice review. You have the exact same mind set as me when comes to riding. Get sendy and only climb out of necessity for the dh. Awesome video
Hi buddy, good review. I'm watching as much as I can as I'm looking at getting a full sus (my first), I'm inbetween the strive 8.0 and the Scott genius 940. The Scott is £200 less with a lower spec suspension set but you can fully lock the rear and forks to climb, like you im stocky build and 5'6". My question to you is would you recommend to me a medium frame or the small as the canyon size chart recommends. I currently ride a specialized carve comp 29r hardtail but it is a large frame much to big bought a friend sold it me at a price I was stupid to refuse. Cheers
Hey there, I kinda depends on what you'll be using it for. Trails, jumps, climbing, descending? If you're doing mostly single track flat stuff I wouldn't recommend the strive. If you're doing some gnarly stuff with some jumping i would recommend the strive. As far as size IMO the medium would be fine for you. Im 5'7 on a good day lol. I personally dont like riding a small even though it says I can ride either. I find that when I ride a small its like riding a really heavy bmx bike lol. The medium for me is more stable for my size. Hope this helps.
I'm 5'7 as well and I've got a 2020 Strive in medium. Similar experience when I first got the bike of it feeling too big but i absolutely love it now. Amazing bike, and such a good value too especially on sale
Agreed my friend. They definitely are a underestimated bike. I'm wanting to get another canyon in the future. Glad to know another canyon owner brochacho 🤘🤘
Thanks for the review, it was a key review for me to settle on the small size. I am 5'6½". For Strive, Canyon measuring tool recommends I get small. In fact it keeps recommending small unless my inseam is 1½" longer, which is quite a bit. I figured if I got medium I probably would have to set the seat to the lowest, which kind of defeats the purpose of dropper post, as my bike would feel like my medium Costco fatbike which I can only ride at the lowest seat height. Hopefully, my decision with your experience has been correct.
Would you recommend this bike for trails where there is Really no down hills? Basically I'm in south Florida and i read in canyons website that this bike is pretty much an all rounder. Having said that I'm new to mbt basically wanted to switch from mainly riding road bikes. So the trails here are flat and some man made drops but there is no decends. Would this still be a fun bike or too much bike for those type of trails?
Absolutely this will be a great bike for flat trails. But I will say you should look into canyons other bikes. This bike has a good amount of travel that you may not need to be honest. An awesome XC bike would be better with about 120mm of travel or even a little less. But if you get the strive you'd be able to take it to some sweet bikes parks one day. 🤘
@@RydenDirty thank you for your input. Interestingly enough I went there yesterday and I met several mtb riders which I didn't expect for them to be so friendly and welcoming. Little did I know that they go to different parks out of state as a group just for fun. They recommend if I want to go to these different bike parks then this bike will be a perfect choice as it's equipped to handle most of those terrains. So they convived me to keep it. I tested the bike and I fell in love with the ride, it's actually pretty nimble for what it is and I am definitely looking forward to take it to bike parks.
I believe there is a law that forces Canyon to ship a certain amount of reflectors with each bike. In other words they have to ship pedals with a reflector on them in order to legally sell the bike. So instead of including 100$ pedals people might not like, they just ship the cheapest ones out there so the customer doesn‘t waste 100$.
Nice little review. As far as the pedals, not sure what is or isn't equipped on US market Canyons but Canyons in Europe (Germany) are without pedals, so the plastic ones you got were probably an "extra" lol
@@RydenDirty for the direct sales, I think so. Probably someone buying a bike direct has in mind a set of pedals to match the bike/style of ride. Bikes at showrooms usually have pedals installed, purchased "complete".

How's it on climbs?
Great to be honest. I'm not the best climber but I would be a lot worse without it. With the shapeshifter there is almost zero pedal bob
I don’t think hight has anything to do with ability to climb. If anything, I think taller is harder since you are heavier.
