Female band Babes in toy land, but that's not so much the growl but certainly a heavier female vocal for its time.

wow you are amazing .. wish I had teachers like you going up !!! i just got ones telling me my music is annoying AHAHAHAHA and then self taught after.
What she is doing is called FALSE CHORD screaming (blowing out, open throat, vibrating the vocal flaps and NOT THE VOCAL CHORDS to make the sound. Its the more healthy way to scream). Similar to the Tibetan throat singers but harsher. You control the pitch with your throat width and lips (embouchure) mainly. sometimes air flow and diaphragm. Low = super open throat, wide open "O" shaped, deep and protruding lips, slow air flow from diaphragm. high pitch = everything is the opposite ... literally.
FRY screaming is another way (sucking in and can be VERY unhealthy because it VERY HARD to do in a healthy way and control). I also think this way sounds bad too.
HOPE THIS HELPS !!!!!!!! LOVE THE CHANNEL

Before IWABO she worked on a band called Unicron with her brother. Should be a music video out there as well.

I'd probably say Angela Gossow was the first woman to do harsh metal vocals, or at least among the very first to do so. She was active from 1991 - 2014, 2014 being when she stopped being the vocalist for the band Arch Enemy. I hope she starts up a new metal project, she said in 2018 she wanted to do something new since she hasn't been active in so long.

Love the break down of the chords and key they were in during the chorus. Info like that really sets you apart. Also your piano playing is great. Would love to see your take on the band Nightwish, with the song Ghost Love Score, Live at Wacken 2013. Really interesting composition with key and time signature changes with the bands keyboardist doing alot of the heavy lifting with string and choral pads. Also their lead vocalist is really amazing.
    Cheers

I don’t know who was the first female singer to do grunts in metal, but I do know a band that has been doing it for a long time: Arch Enemy. Check out their song “We Will Rise” for starters.

And so glad to hear a music teacher explaining in a very simple way why screamings make sense in music. "To get emotions you/she couldnt get with the other voice". Exactly on point. When some people tell it's "noise, not music" or things like these, they do not understand that when you have a wide range of possibilities you must use it to get a wide range of results, and its about emotions. Metal music generally tells sad/angry/political/emotional stories so it's just logical for this music to use screamings, violent tones, dissonance sometimes. Its existentialism's music in a way. Just take a look at "panasonic youth" by The Dillinger Escape Plan and read the lyrics. It's relevant to get a strange rythm, a violent atmosphere and crazy screamings. You can also get it by watching Lost in Vegas reaction video for "Farewell Mona Lisa" by this same band The Dillinger Escape Plan. Even those guys, being former rnb/rap listeners can get the meaning and relevance of it all. So just for people used to say extreme metal music is noise only, not music, try a little bit harder, dig into the meaning of the songs, the intention behind them and I'm sure you'll open doors in your mind.

Angela gossow was one of the first female vocalists to do the very ‘heavy’ music style of vocals. For swapping between the two the earliest example I can think of is bands that came up in the ‘nu metal’ phase. Kittie being the example that stands out.

I like the analysis on the chord progression. 1 - 6b is becoming the new 1 - 5b in metal. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. Love it. Thx

As far as the first woman to do growls in metal I'm honestly not sure, the first woman I ever heard do it was Angela Gossow back around 2004/2005 but she'd already been fronting that band for a few years at that point and I'm pretty sure she'd been in bands since the early 90's, though I'm not sure whether she had been doing growls or not back then. Some other notable mentions to my knowledge are Tarri B from My Ruin, Candace Kucsulain from Walls of Jericho, Morgan Lander of Kittie and there are actually many others at this point.

I always prefer to see reaction videos from other musicians as opposed to anyone else. Who wants to sit through someone listening to a song, only to have them say "I really enjoyed that, be sure to click like and subscribe!!" at the end?? I agree about the progression for the chorus. That sharp five made all the difference in the world.
