Life-saver! i'm currently trying to switch from a B230 K carburetor (the one with 5 million vacuum hoses) to a b230 A carb. since mine has problems keeping the rpm smooth and not *pop* whilst accelerating and during cold/wet weather. it will be tricky since i have not worked with a lot of carbs but i will definetly watch this video if i need to adjust after the switch! My 740 has only gone 88000 km (about 50 000 Miles) and i hope i can get it running smoothly again! :) All the best!
Hi great tip to hear how the engine runs to calibrate your carburetor specially if your Volvo does not have a tachometer otherwise you also look at your revs.. Cheers!!
Great video! I have same carb as you, but when I try to lift the valve up the idle drop & engine is shut off. The rpm is already on the high idle. Is there other screw to adjust the idle? I have no problem with the power of my engine but when I checked the spark plug its full of carbon (Back then my spark plug is brown & fuel economy is great)
This video was very informative. Thanks. I am helping my son with his 77 Mercedes W123 with a 2.3 and stromberg 175cd. All the plugs are black and it sprays black wet exhaust on the driveway at idle. I am suspecting a needle or something in the carburator is stuck. He only got the car a couple months ago and it did not do this at first and has gotten worse. I am a GM person and completely unfamiliar with this carb and your video explained alot.
Thankyou for this awesome comment! helping people is always making me smile and that is the reason for making these video's! take the carb off and buy a gallon of brake cleaner and get that thing clean! then just start from the beginning. make sure you hit the point that you can make the rpm drop and make the rpm go up close to eachother. and then just start finetuning the thing! goodluck my friend!
Have you possibly a video on carburater adjustment of your Amazon '69? Am asking as I also own a '69 Amazon, even the same colour as yours, and it would be interesting to know how to do.... Should be Stromberg 175 CD-2 on these cars with the special oil fill on top...
Yes. Look in my video's there is one about a rebuild in wich i also talk a bit about the adjustment. If you wand to know special things, send me a dm on instagram and i'll talk you trough. No problem
Just checked another guy's video on these carb restos and his, exactly the same with the temperature compensator (with the bi-metal stripe inside) originates from a Triumph 6, says these even were used on MG:s, Lotuses etc, what I want to say is my original B20, '69 Amazon doesn't have that temperature compensator, nor the spare Stromberg 175 CD-2 I've at home, and I think these are original to this specific year and motor, so where does yours comes from??? Might have been exchanged over the years?
Mine is from a 69 amazon. A friend of mine has the exact same on a 73 144. The compensator is just something for emisions so many users screwed them shut.
Thanks for the video. I have exactly the same carb on my W123 Can i ask you where to put the oil? I’m getting conflicting information. Some specialist told me to just pour it into the middle opening when you unscrew the dashpot cap with the 3 screws just like you would do on the newer version where the opening is in the center. I did this but was confused because of the yellow plastic cap on the side. If i were to fill up through the plastic cap opening then the oil would go into the cup and not down the middle where the needle is. Since there is another plastic cap on the center opening..
Poor it down the yellow cap. There is a little pipe that will level out the damper. Don't worry. That is how it should be. I have another video on those carbs.
Hi there.. I have the exact same carb but the butterfly is completely stuck solid.. as itnis soooo expensive to replace, could you suggest an alternative carb that I could replace it with. Thanks for any help
Excellent been searching for the exact video on my carb (in a w123) running rich so will adjust (righty tighty) to make leaner. One other thing the dash pot oil level? I filled mine to the lower threads of yellow cap but have had some red oil leak out at the top of the carb. Should I reseal the top housing (with the 3 flat screws) or have I filled up too much? Thanks once again
i tought these carbs just throw the overfilled oil out themselfs. but i am not 100% sure about that. i just fill it up until it reaches the yellow cap and that works fine for me!
hey, I have a volvo 240 DL from 1981 and it has a Pierburg 175 CD on it but my idle valve screw on the intake manifold is completely stuck and really low. Is there anyway I can get my idle RPM higher without twisting the idle screw? cheers
hello Gordon. Thanks for the comment. If you type this question into google you will find everything you need. i don't think there is a special name for this tool. i do know there are some different types in the tools. Some are slotted, some are refered to as allen key tool. But i found some at dellortoshop.com
Hi! Is there any chanse i can send u a vid of my car? Volvo 245 b21 with pierburg/stromberg carburator, iknow something is wrong with it, but maybe u could listen if u can hear whats wrong ?
I am lost i am from south africa can I have your. Group WhatsApp number . my carburetor makes my engine seem as if I am driving with 3 cylinder . I don't no what would be the problem can I please have your connected details
This video explains the checking and adjusting of the Stromberg carburetor very well. Now that you've shown me, I can't wait to try it out on my car!
Thanks for the compliment 🙂👍🏻 Good luck!

i see many people use SU carbs for classic volvo's. I don't know wich type you need but i do know they are way easier to adjust and maintain

adjusting the throttle cable will do the work but the best thing is to just try to get that bold out and order a new one for €11,- 😀
👍🏻
Hello, Where in USA can I order a carburetor Stromberg 175 CD?
Sadly i don't live in the Usa myself. I have no idea where you could buy one. Maybe try junkjards or ebay?
My carburetor adjusts from the top. Please tell me, if I turn right that means I pull the needle up and more fuel (richer) ?
you will need the special tool for that type. neelde goes down it means leaner. needle goes up it means richer
Wath number is tool for adjust the carburator?
The socket you need on the bottom of the carburettor is size 8
Hello I would like to ask what is the name of the special tool needed on a newer type pierbug 175 cd cab.
Thank you
